Well you add to the fact it was the 50th Anniversary, so there was a lot of coverage around it, along with really glowing reviews. I also think it had less competition, I don't think there was another big film released until The Hobbit in December. Where Spedtre was immediately cut off by Mockingjay: Part 2.

Adele + 50th anniversary + word-of-mouth = box office success. Spectre still made plenty of dollar thanks to an aggressive marketing campaign (and the fact that it's Bond) but there were numerous factors working against it. There was the Sony leak, the Sam Smith theme which hardly anybody liked, and then of course there was the mixed reception once the American reviews came pouring in.

I heard the Sam Smith song the other day on the radio and liked it. It felt out of place in the movie in (big) part to the ridiculous octopus.
Spectre had big script issues, they needed to completely cut the side plot, at least. ...and don't forget this little gem...in a film...in 2015: ![]() Last edited by Dreamliner330; 03-21-2016 at 03:40 PM. |

I really wanted to like Spectre, however I simply didn't enjoy it anywhere near as much as Skyfall.
Having said that, I still believe that Casino Royale is Craig's best outing as Bond, so im not sure what that says about my tastes in Bond films... To me, neither Spectre nor Skyfall feel like Bond films. Whereas I felt CR did feel like one. |

Could not disagree more strongly (watch that awful scene when Bond picks up Solange in CR, where he is just sort of looking desperate waiting for her to say yes and really tell me CR is the best of ANYthing!), and that is coming from a lifelong Fleming devotee.
Haven't felt genuinely thrilled by a Bond movie since LICENCE TO KILL, and except for parts of QUANTUM have been offended by pretty much everything 007 oriented this century has to offer. The current films may have a veneer of realism, but the way things play out seems just as unlikely as the worst (does that mean ALL?) of the Moore era. Craig doesn't give off the "Bond's gay uncle" vibe that I get from Moore, but nothing about him suggests Bond either, either in appearance or demeanor, except occasional physical bits. |

Not bad til the last fifteen minutes, where it can be seen that all involved just wanted to get it over with and let Daniel Craig just walk off into the sunset, too bad because a Bond film deserves a better ending.
