Your speakers you dummy.

Oh that's outputs.. Well technically the cables all go into the ports so they really are all inputs in a sense but from the source should also be the output. So a little confusing. I only plug them in. Never really thought about that part. lol.

Don't worry Tommy, I've got this

If your Blu-ray player has 5 channel audio outputs, you would use those to connect to the receiver. The player would then decode the lossless codecs and send an HD signal to your receiver.

Who's the dummy?

I'm used to dealing with inputs and outputs from hooking up guitar, bass, PA systems, etc. The source is always the input, the speakers are the output.

I thought you had some kind of license or certificate?

Ahh, I see. I have two Panasonic BD players(BD60 and BD65), and neither one has seperate audio outs. All of your audio equipment is too fancy.

One minute, I'm thinking that what I have right now is good enough, and that I should just stop where I'm at for the time being, get a cheap crappy used receiver for the living room, and be done for now. Then I think, I don't want to invest even $20 in a crappy receiver, when I could put that money towards a nice one, and move my decent Sony back to the living room.

I don't have a lot of money to throw around, but what I'm really looking for is clean, clear, pristine, natural, powerful sound. I don't care at all for bells and whistles, only the best sound quality at the most affordable price. I don't expect to get the best receiver in the world, and I really don't want to get a seperate pre/pro and amps.

I would like to get the most real-world clean power with seven channels driven that I can. Not so that I can turn it up louder or brag, but so it sounds better, and is more dynamic. I've always heard that you are more likely to damage a speaker by clipping from lack of power, than you are from having a little more reserve power. I think that probably contributed to me blowing my center channel tweeter a few weeks ago.

I have been looking at a lot of the refurbs at accessories4less and also trying to find some real-world bench tests on those models, and checking out various reviews, but I would appreciate any and all input and suggestions from all of you guys.

If you know of any magical receiver that sounds absolutely sublime, and costs next to nothing, let me know!
Joe I have been doing this hobby for many years and if you find something like that then I want to know about it too.

So you were talking about analog 5 channels inputs on the receiver (he only has 2ch. on the bd player.)? That's cool and all but hardly necessary..hdmi for the most part will do fine unless we're talking about very fine music listening.

Yes but i also think it depends on what were talking about. I were talking only about the connections were the cables go in and you are talking about what the component connected actually do. e.g. the guitars connection is called 'output jack' and the amp/speaker is called 'input jack' but still the sound comes from the guitar and "out" it too the amp/speaker.

In case of AVR-->Speakers. The speaker posts on the AVR are called outputs since they output the sound and the speakers receive the sound into they input binding posts. Right.?

But with the source components it's reversed So the posts on the bluray/cd player is called output and the input is on the AVR.

Hehe if this is totally wrong i take it back but this makes sense too me.

Good Morning and........

Thanks for the compliment but...... It's not that my gear is fancy, it's just that it's old . Sure when I bought them they were cutting edge ,but that was some time ago. But one of the key features I always looked for was expand-ability. When I bought my present Pre/Pro (in the living room) and AVR (in the office) Blu-ray was still on the drawing board and in a nasty format war . Yet when the war was over and the dust settled I was ready for the new format and had the connectivity to allow the then new lossless codecs to play through my system . Heck...... neither of my units even have HDMI connectivity , but I don't see that as a necessity because I run the blu-ray players straight to the display panels via HDMI. But I digress ......

The older Panasonic models BDP 30/50 & 35/55 had 5 channel outputs and I thought they'd still have them on their machines now.

Oh well...... Back to the drawing board for another solution

No..... In this you are quite right . The easiest way to remeber this is to follow the signal . The source (be it guitar, blu-ray / CD player) always has an output to send the signal to the input of the amplifier. In the case of home audio , we go one step further in that the AVR or amplifier Outputs the signal to the speakers

Sweet! I looked at the specs, and looked up a picture of it too. It looks really nice. I hope you're happy with it when you get it fired up!

Im sure i will be. Come tomorrow i'll be without a computer since im shipping this lappy im typing on right now. Hopefully my new pc will arrive before the weekend.

Oh just got a bit of a doh moment some minutes ago. It seems i forgot too investigate the prices on all lappys with a 7690 XT card. But got a little easier when i found that it's really just is a renamed 6770 card. Strange the benches i've seen are a deal better on the 7690 than the 6770 but maybe that's just because they average the points and some are with the weaker DDR3 ram.

Anyway the laptop with the slightly revises card only have core i5 and if i want i7 it'll cost me a good deal more than with the one i ordered. It does have a 17" screen though. mine is only 15". I hope i make sense mate.

Ex. this is the one im getting:

HP Pavilion dv6-6b18sg

and this is the other one:

HP Pavilion dv7-6c04eg

...They both get 3.1ghz with turboboost. So not much change there.

I compared the two, and it looks like yours has some advantages over the other one, but the other one has a bigger screen and a few different features. Like I've said before, I don't fully understand all of the technical terms, but hopefully you do!

Do you have any idea when you should receive it? How are you going to survive without blu-ray.com?! Maybe a few days away from here will give you more time to fine-tune your projector and receiver settings and/or your room treatments.

I asked you a question over in your thread, and I would appreciate all of the information that you can give me on it.

I knew you were looking into getting a projector calibrator, but I didn't know you were getting an Oppo.

That's awesome.
