Just out of curiosity, which LG do you have?
I have the C9. I don't notice it when I am watching things in HDR10. But it's more noticeable in Dolby Vision.

That is so weird. I know as the tech has improved even in the two or three years since the LG B/C/G9 series, the ASBL has become less aggressive. I turned it off on my C6 and I turned it off on my G1, too. I don't watch content with news tickers and such and in my 5-ish years of owning the C1, it's not caused any issues. I hear that the ASBL on the Sony's even for the 2021 models is still quite aggressive though, making playing games pretty aggravating. Again, I understand the reasoning behind why they implement it, but it does suck for those who are responsible enough to know how to properly care for their sets, which I'm assuming includes you and me.

I wonder though, I don't necessarily want to watch Eternals again until I get the physical disc, but I may fire up the D+ stream to see.

I get if I pause the film and it sits there for a bit or if I'm watching live tv with logos. That makes sense. But it doesn't make sense when images are actually moving. LG needs to understand that this doesn't work.
Same thing happened to me when watching both the Dune UHD and The King’s Man on D+ recently (during darker scenes). Ended up buying that remote thingy and turning off the setting in question in the service menu, rather than it spoiling any more movies for me.

Didn’t notice it when I watched The Eternals on D+, but then again, the movie was so fookin’ boring, I’d probably nodded off a few times and potentially missed any dimming.

I was a big fan of this film, and I noticed the CGI doubles. It just didn’t bother me. I’ve come to expect, the bigger budget from a studio minded production, then they prioritize speed and release date over finishing stuff and releasing when it’s ready. Thor Ragnarok & Black Panther also had the dodgy CGI. This isn’t just a Disney thing. I’ve said it numerous times, but Hunger Games literally was released with unfinished CGI. Pay the CGI people more and give them more time to finish things!

I'm sure any of the effects could have been made even better if you threw a whole lot of money at it.

All I'm saying is, I didn't notice anything about the CG or VFX that bothered me or stopped me from enjoying the story. And that was after about a dozen times watching it in the theaters. Since it was released on D+ I've seen it another half-dozen times or so.

I get more pulled in by the story and everything that is at stake, rather than by the effects used to tell the story. I'm sure they must have used stunt people and some face-replacement in some scenes, maybe - but I definitely didn't pay any attention to that.

Those doubles and other bad CGI (Those Bitey, Cable Covered Things) warrants my suspicion that after the film was done and was screened to the director, she said..

" Wow, this CGI is the pits...lets just lower all levels to barely perceptible...we can just say we intended it to look this way, did my deposit show up yet ? "

It does not sound likely at all...

The movie was originally scheduled for release in 2020, they had plenty of extra time to work on it. If they had felt anything was wrong that average moviegoers would have a problem with, they would have fixed it.

I think the VFX are just fine, not only that, the cinematography is absolutely gorgeous, and the location shooting is gorgeous.

I don't think the Deviants have bad CG. Am I missing something here?

ILM did the bulk of the Deviant animation and I thought they were pretty good as well. WETA did the final battle on the volcano. Digital Domain did stuff in between.

I loved this film! And while the home release may not be the best I've ever seen, it has not kept me from enjoying it multiple times on both Disney+ and on the UHD disc.

I can understand some of the criticism, but I surely hope it doesn't mean we'll never see a continuation of these characters.

I don’t get it either. Thought it was a better film than No Way Home and miles better than Black Widow.

Better than No Way Home? Yes absolutely. But Black Widow is also better than SMNWH.

I think Black Widow was more entertaining than this; not saying it's better, per se.

No Way Home had it's problems, but it also had characters I cared about.

I'm curious which characters in Eternals you felt a connection to or cared for?

All of them! Including Patel, of course! I think each and every one of the characters there are so vividly realised, it feels like I know what it would be like to actually interact with them IRL. It is by far the best group of superheroes I've ever seen in any movie, because they really do feel like an actual family (albeit sometimes a slightly dysfunctional family) and their devotion to what they believe in feels so real, and because the dilemmas they face are full of all kinds of philosophical and moral ramifications that I find absolutely fascinating.

I think the trio of MCU movies that came out last year which were helmed by indie directors getting their first crack at big-budget filmmaking are really fascinating because they have so much to offer beneath what's in the surface, and that is the part 95% of all viewers will look at, but there are so many layers to these 3 movies that are incredibly rewarding, especially in multiple viewings, that are not there in other MCU movies. This makes me especially excited to see more MCU movies by other indie filmmakers, like the upcoming Marvels movie, directed by Nia DaCosta. I hope the trend continues, because it's really bringing something new and exciting to the genre, at least for me.

Really?! The phrase "to each his own" comes to mind because I didn't feel like ANY of them had were so vividly realized.

You really feel like this is the best group of superheroes? Even over the first avengers?

I understand we all like what we like, as I admittedly and knowingly enjoy some crap movies; I'm just having a hard time wrapping my head around your first two statements.

I feel like Eternals might have been better served as a TV series, actually taking the time to flesh out the characters in individual episodes or something like that, because a 2 hr and 37 min movie is just not long enough to properly introduce 10 unique superheroes.

Oh, yes, absolutely! I've enjoyed each and every one of the MCU movies to some extent or another, right now, I'd say Eternals is definitely at the top of the list, and it isn't even close. Not by a long shot.

But then again, I'm an even bigger fan of Chloé Zhao than I am of comic book movies. So maybe that has something to do with it...

Fair enough, sir!

Again, I'm not one to say you can or can't like it! I'm just generally surprised by your enthusiasm for this movie.

I think you generally just like superhero movies, which is nothing wrong with it.
