Chuckles above has been gleefully hoping for the demise of physical media since at least 2015; it really gets his goat that physical media is still with us in 2023.

I have never known anyone who wants other people to lose something that they enjoy as much as he does.

Speaking of that specific doom-and-gloomer that you are referring to, go to the "advanced search" feature here on the forums, and start entering that person's screen name as if you were going to search for that person's posts. You'll see two names start to pop up... that person's screen name... as well as another screen name that is very similar, but with one hilarious difference!

I have no idea who created it. It's been there for years and has no post history. But whoever made it is my hero.

Have not checked myself but others posted iTunes original content does have higher data rates.

The same can be said of Amazon Prime video, one original UHD video had 20 Mbps while DD+ Atmos had 448 Kbps. Some other original UHD video had 15 Mbps while DD+ Atmos had 448 Kbps.

Just received another care package of media from eBay -- just filling in the gaps in the collection at great low prices:

High-Rise BD
Tully BD
The Kingdom / Green Zone 2-pack BD

A buddy gifted me a BD of the Shout Select Robert Mitchum Farewell My Lovely / The Big Sleep.

Sorry for the late reply Wendell. Between the new job and my room getting painted, I haven’t had a chance to give this list some thought.

1 Barbie - little interest but might grab it for video purposes.
2 The Super Mario Bros. Movie - no interest
3 Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse - no interest
4 Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 - own it but not watched yet
5 Oppenheimer - Day 1 purchase (Steelbook if available)
6 The Little Mermaid - no interest
7 Avatar: The Way of Water - own it for technical merits but have not watched
8 Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania - might grab on sale
9 John Wick: Chapter 4 - own Steelbook - best release this year IMO
10 Sound of Freedom - no interest
11 Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny - will purchase at release price
12 Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One - day 1 purchase (Steelbook)
13 Transformers: Rise of the Beasts - will purchase at release price
14 Creed III - little interest
15 Elemental - no interest

Like you, animated is (to quote Austin Powers) is “Not my bag Baby” so that rules out a few on this list. Shaky cams don’t bother me though, and alternating aspect ratios is a cool thing with the MadVR as it handles them with ease, so Oppenheimer is high on my list.

My room is put back together finally, and plan to watch Avatar Monday or Tuesday since I have a good chunk of time to dedicate to its lengthy run time.

@ cheez avenger (or anyone that knows)

Kanopy says I have 8 credits per month. If I select a series do you know if each episode counts toward my credits or the series counts as 1 credit?

One of the very few blind buys for me. I agree, the best this year of new 2023 titles.

As usual for me, I will view and then determine if worthy of purchase. I really hope they are.

America's largest independent video store is taking its DVD-by-mail service nationwide (here).

Quote:
After September 29th, Netflix will no longer rent DVDs by mail and will be winding down that part of its business altogether. Most people might be surprised that the streaming giant is still even renting DVDs, but if you're one of its subscribers who'll be sad to see the service go, there's now another rent-by-mail option you can use anywhere you are in the US. Scarecrow, the largest independent video store in the US, has launched its own rent-by-mail service that will send DVDs and Blu-ray discs straight to your door.

I wasn't exactly sure, but found this on their Help FAQs:

Quote:
Series and episodes

Some series, like those from A&E and The History Channel, require only one play credit to access an entire season for one viewing period (48 or 72 hours). Other series require a play credit for each episode you watch.

You can see how a series uses play credits in the Kanopy mobile app. If "Playlist" appears at the top of the title details page, only one play credit is required to access the entire series or season for one viewing period. If "Collection" appears at the top of the title details page, each episode will use a play credit.

Note: The supplier for each individual series decides how play credits are used when their series is viewed.

Hopefully with this strike going on some of the money will be shifted to new remasters of neglected titles. Perhaps they can push some extra money into anime/ animation. I kind of prefer some writers styles in other countries anyway so I could see some good stuff coming out of them looking for outside talent.

May not get a disc release. There has been silence from Disney so far on this.

I just glanced at their site, saw 6 disc for like $12.95 with two way shipping. They may appeal to some and not to others. I am now on the two at a time from GameFly so may not use them but I like to have options.

It has been obvious for sometime Disney is going to use any content they can to prop up D+, then add that content to EST then disc.

I don’t think they are doing that much as of late. They had that big price increase and Snow White and cinderella are getting disc releases. They are also putting out the a list shows on 4k now. They are also going to have a major drought with the writers strike.

Overall they are going sink or swim with Disney plus the last 4 to 6 months.

By most all accounts, the Mill Creek Blu-ray release of I Dream Of Jeannie The Complete Series is a disaster and this TV show has disappeared from subscription streaming services, at least as a complete series. The HD versions that were on streaming were reportedly quite good, but Mill Creek never saw a HD master that they couldn't compress the life out of.

That leaves the old Sony DVDs as the best alternative, so I tracked them down on ebay and I bought all five seasons. The seller threw in the first season in black & white as a bonus (that's how it was originally aired).

My purchase should all but assure a new blu-ray release, hopefully from Sony itself.
