Well, I can definitely see variances in those grey tones themselves (the two outer ones are noticeably darker than the middle two) but the point still stands: the black and white version will indeed need a proper grading pass. FWIW I really liked the B&W version of The Mist too.

![]() A bit of minor hue adjustment and the grey shades would have been identical. I was really just adding to your response. |

Thank you to everyone who has contributed informative (and educational) answers to my question.
![]() I'm still kind of on the fence as to whether this warrants a double-dip (for me personally) but knowing more about the process has got me a bit more excited about this Black & Chrome version. It could be pretty ![]() I think I'll wait for the reviews to come in on this one seeing as I already own all four films individually. For me it will likely come down to the extras and just how cool this Black & Chrome version will ultimately look. |

I find it a damn shame when I read comments online (not necessarily on this particular forum) regarding the black and white release.
People are like, "who would want to pay to watch a movie in black and white?" or say things such as, "I can just turn the color down on my TV if I want to." Do people in today's generation not appreciate black and white film? I remember the hate and audience backlash The Artist got when it was released. They thought it was stupid for a B&W silent film in modern mainstream media. Oh well, I enjoy the gimmick of black and white film for its artistic style and purpose. For that, I will be purchasing the High Octane edition since I do not own any of the Mad Max movies on Blu-ray. |

Too many people today don't seem to realize that black and white cinematography is as much an art as color cinematography. It isn't as simple as turning down the color.

LOL, it's not like I hate black and white films and/or cinematography. Far from it (I actually love it).
But part of what I love about Fury Road is that, visually, it's an absolute explosion of color. It's an integral part of the look of the film. I have no interest in watching the film in black and white, outside of it being a curiosity to check out once or twice. The allure of the "Black & Chrome" release was, for me, that it would potentially have better bonus features (such as a commentary, an expanded documentary, etc.). But it seems that all we're getting is an introduction to the B&W version, which is underwhelming to say the least. But this is WB, so I have no idea why I'm even the slightest bit surprised. I suppose I should be happy that it's not priced at $800. |

Disappointed that there isn't more features for Fury Road, I wouldn't mind the black and chrome edition, though I could've sworn I had read this new edition would have more extras. Guess they meant the other documentary. I'm still tempted to buy it as I don't have any of the other mad max movies.

Fury Road was shot knowing that every shot would be re-graded in DI. Sure, Miller has said he wanted the extreme contrast of desert and sky, but it does not seem all that apparent on set, and pushed in grading in DI (blue/orange, 21st century industry graders have to justify themselves) so why not do the same in b/w? The same basic approach could apply (desert/sky contrast).

Am I correct in thinking that the German Edition contains tons more new extra features but misses out the UHD version and the George Miller intro? Trying to figure out which version to buy of the HO edition.
