Best line of the movie and Michael Ironside saying it with a straight face. I love it!
I heard a director once urged him to "Maybe show a little emotion. Be less of a badass.".....and Michael Ironside killed him. True story.

Flesh tones looked perfectly fine to me, and I use Warm 2 like good little boys and girls should. Casper Van Dien is one tan ass dude which might be throwing people off, and some lighting is very warm, but in general I thought flesh tones on Busey, Ironside and the rest looked perfectly normal and lovely. I literally have zero to complain about with this disc, I'd give it a 5/5 if I reviewed shit on here.

Yeah, what this guy said.

Watching this last night was pure bliss.

Default I coudn't help myself.

I saw Wonder Woman in UHD last night and right before bed, I snuck a quick peek at this UHD just to get a taste.

Good Lord what a difference. I can't believe it. I scanned a few scenes here and there and its literally kicking the Blu-ray's ass. Its not even close. This facelift is marvelous.

I can't wait to watch this in its entirety and report back with more but do yourself a favor, go out and get this disc.

I agree 100%. Sony just did what Sony do, and meanwhile people are running about cancelling pre-orders and shit based on other peeps with janky settings and shit photos of their TV.

But, hey...

Just out of curiosity - and yes, I know at this point it's nit picky...because the transfer/sound quality on this disc are what matter first and foremost...and boy oh boy do they deliver....but why are the majority of the menus for 4K Discs (this one especially) so archaic and blah. Navigating to anything other than the film itself with this picture is a chore - there is AND I KID YOU NOT - an actual menu item called, "memories?" All I was trying to do was find the scene selection so I could take a look at some of the louder/more colorful scenes.

Its been brought up before and yes, its ridiculous. If there is a knock against Sony its those menus, and they need to change this.

The more mentions of these terrible menus the better, they're so clunky and slow. Not even DVD menus were this shonky. Heck of it is I wouldn't actually mind them being so shitty if there was an in-movie pop up menu but nope, you don't get that either. Instead we've got to party like it's 1999.

Can you please elaborate why you think warm 2 is the go to setting?

Gets closest to the 6500 temp.

Yeah. No issue with skin tones or the colors in my end either at all.

Imagine that. Screenshots of tv's mean bupkiss!

Movies are mastered for video in a certain colour temperature, as mentioned by zupes above. The warmest colour temperature preset on any decent TV will be what gets you closest to this, although further calibration (proper meter/software calibration, not just copying settings) is usually necessary to ensure that the temperature is accurate across the brightness range. While this may appear to be far too warm and yellow on immediate inspection just give it time. After a week or two you'll get used to it and when you switch back to other colour temps you can see how cold and blue they actually are.

Sold my old UK steelbook the other day - more than paid for the 4K release. Job done!

I think some people are a bit confused as to what UHD should be. It seems like they are expecting all shiny and clean like digital movies today. Watched this last night and it was a damn good disc. The audio for me was just ok though.

I agree, this is an awesome looking movie. I never bought the BD so it was an easy decision especially with the look of the steelbook.

The bugs never looked better. The movie has held up pretty well.

Oh man, I thought the audio was great, too. It's two solid hours of WHOOSH, BOOM, bugs scattering everywhere, and nonstop machinegun fire. And it hits quite hard.

I think I want to watch this again now lol.

Oh it wasn't bad, it's just that I've been watching a lot of movies with amazing audio lately and this one didn't stand out as much.

I can understand that since modern mixes can really go bananas even with the LFE... but man, this was solid

Wow, just wow.

I have just finished watching this and I'm still in awe by the amazing PQ of this transfer. The amount of details present is nothing short of spectacular, especially on character's faces it is truly remarkable. For example that scene when Rico and Carmen say goodbye just before she leaves on the train, there's a shot of Denise Richards and it's almost as if I was with her right there. I know it sounds cheesy but it looked so real. And there are tons of examples like that. But also around the 59 minutes mark, there's a scene in which smaller ships break away from a mothership. That looked so good and highly detailed, and again, this might sound cheesy but it really had a 3D effect. The picture has an amazing sense of depth to it. Another example is at 1:41:25 (I wrote that down ), there's troopers and spacecrafts on the ground while another spacecraft lands. It just looks so sharp and real. Lots of grain ofcourse which I do not mind at all, I happen to love that organic film look.

As for the HDR, I think it was done so within the movie's intended look. It has a very lively pop to it all throughout the movie. There were a couple occasions however I thought contrast was a bit blown out so to speak: first during the ball game at the beginning and then later on during two outdoor scenes at the combat school. Could be me though but other than that, I have nothing but praise for this transfer! I could imagine if one is running in torch mode or just a bit too much of everything on his TV, this UHD presentation might look too bright and unnatural. I also think all of the visual effects have stood the test of time (just as in The Fifth Element), they still look great and surely beat many of today's CGI that's being used.

This disc will be watched many times over.

HT gear used: Sony X9405D and Panasonic UB900.
