Releasing it to cross-promote with a new season actually makes it MORE likely, if home video history is anything to go by. I don't think it is likely though, I don't think their experiments sold enough.

Twice Upon A Time 4K was released on the 24th/25th September in the UK and US and Series 11 began airing the week after. If Series 11 4K was released a week before Series 12 starts airing, it would be exactly the same as what they did for TUAT.

I was kind of expecting something along the lines of what Sherlock did and the last DW special, starting the first week of January. Especially considering they said "Very Early 2020"

Merchandise and tie-in books are currently scheduled to be released in February. From the looks of things, it’s going to be another New Year’s Day special followed by the full series in February. It could still be January, but February is looking like a strong possibility.

Having recent rewatched Series Twelve recently, I'd just like to reiterate what a shame it is that the last two seasons haven't gotten some kind of HDR glow-up. The last two seasons of Doctor Who have been so beautifully filmed, and these episodes would look absolutely incredible in HDR (if Twice Upon a Time and Sherlock: Series One are anything to go by).

Agreed a shame they dont release the last two seasons in 4kUHD. as i have the Final Twice Upon a Time in 4kUHD disc i would have thought they would have taken advantage of the format given epic cinematography the show has taken in the last few years.

I'm still utterly confused why this one was slowed down compared to Sherlock, when they're both natively filmed and edited at 25hz, but oh well. And I probably would've gotten series 11 and 12 on 4k, but it seems the efforts on this and Sherlock weren't worth it (yet). Sherlock still hasn't received the rest of the series on the format either, despite the first series being released on it and not just a single episode.
Wouldn't save the dumpster fires that they are, but it'd be nice to look at at least... |

Anyone watch Revolution of the Daleks in 4K and have any thoughts?

I watched a couple of Season 12 episodes on Blu Ray before Revolution and thought they looked really bad in a way that other HD series of Who haven't. Just really flat and soft. Revolution itself looked fantastic on the UHD stream though. It was a massive jump going from one to the other. morphinapg may be right. These newer series may need the HDR.

Haven't had the chance to watch it in HDR, I did get a file that's with HLG, but it seems my Sony blu-ray player isn't playing with that format and just goes for the SDR signal and the TV doesn't load the file whatsoever. So here's hoping they'll bother with a physical release down the line with HDR.

I'm guessing this will be another frame-rate conversion (and, thus, another pass from me).

But I don’t know how fans would react if BBC tries to make them triple dip on Revolution in the space of 12 months (stand-alone, 4K, Series 13 box set) |

So, if Revolution of the Daleks was shot with the rest of Series Twelve, that would imply that the rest of S12 was shot in 4K too, yes? So if that didn't get a release on disc, I don't think we have any reason to suspect that Revolution of the Daleks would, apart from it actually being freely available on iPlayer in 4K (which might not mean much, considering their releases of Sherlock and Twice Upon a Time were never available in 4K outside of their disc releases, as far as I'm aware). I wouldn't hold my breath.

I'm at a weird point with physical media. I stopped buying DVDs because I didn't want to pay money for TV shows on disc that looked worse than when I had watched them live. We're now getting a lot of shows that have 4K or at least 1080 HDR streams that are only being released on Blu Ray and I'm finding myself thinking much the same thing that I thought about DVDs 10-12 years ago.

I asked on the Q&A section on the product page on Target if this would come with a slipcover and they said yes. The order arrived today and it did indeed come with a slipcover. So if anyone wants a slipcover with this, Target is still selling it with one.
