It's been going this way for years. There are other threads to discuss the death of 3D blu ray.

There's a news thread now to discuss the Sony/Disney physical media link up so any further discussion will be moved there in order for this thread to get back on topic, which is The Marvels.

Here's the link: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=371384

Am I wrong but were you not as much in the middle of the discussion of Sony/Disney as the rest of us? LOL

Yes, but it got to the point where there were pages of it and now that there's a dedicated thread that's where the discussion belongs, otherwise it's the same thing in every thread.

It's not far off The Marvels coming out now and people will want to know when the postage costs drop.

I completely agree on the threads getting out of context. The only problem with the news thread is I for one and probably a lot of others never leave the 3D Blu-ray and 3D Movies forum. Heck I never even knew there was a news forum. LOL

Keeping it on topic, but related to the news, it definitely will be good to watch any missing 3D listings including The Marvels closely. I know some have been waiting to get some on decent deals which happen from time to time, if something does change in the next year or two with Japanese distribution though, it’s very possible these currently easy to attain 3D disc could suddenly become very hard to get hold of.

Anything can happen but as thing stand the movie is coming out in a few weeks and it's not going to sell out in a hurry unless for some reason they have made less of them based on declining sales of the last few MCU titles.

The main difference I noted for The Marvels is that it did not have a myriad of editions with mugs, posters, keychains and other tat. I tried one of those editions for Shang-Chi, it was some kind of bookmark I think, what a waste of money that was. People like tat though so if the tat editions were not selling well it's not the best sign really.

Where are looking for this? When I go to it, there is all the editions you mention that they are not including.

You're right, not sure when they added those but it's a good sign!

Wondering if it will have IMAX like Guardians 3. I sadly doubt it because i believe Gunn pushed for that to happen.

What happened there was discussed pretty extensively in the GOTG3 thread I believe and confirmed in James Gunn interviews.

The 3D blu-ray did *not* have IMAX scenes. It, like all home video releases of the film, featured changing aspect ratios that are not IMAX experience exclusive.

The IMAX edition of the film was full frame the entire way through. Gunn didn't have to push for anything, he gamed their system by creating his preferred vision of the film with changing aspect ratios and handed the IMAX and Disney+ folks their "exclusive" full frame version.

Unfortunately in the case of The Marvels all the expanded scenes are IMAX exclusive so we're apparently getting a scope only release in 3D (samel as the other home video versions).

This whole thing of IMAX holding certain aspect ratios hostage is so bizarre. It's great that Gunn managed to trick (or possibly bully since I doubt that most directors could have done the same) the system into getting his way, but it shouldn't be necessary. How is it that IMAX can control the actual output of a film, when they're not even using IMAX cameras? In any case, there shouldn't reasonably be a way to patent a ratio.

I understand that IMAX want to have exclusive rights, but why the film industry is catering to them I find hard to understand. If IMAX theaters were to refuse to show the latest blockbuster if they don't get exclusive rights, it would hurt IMAX first of all, so I don't get where their leverage comes from.

Completely agree. I dislike IMAX for all sorts of reasons, but their aspect ratio nonsense is the main one. Their "exclusive AR" thing is completely ridiculous and is why I'm now boycotting their cinemas. Big deal, I know, that will make zero difference to anything, but I just don't want to give them a penny. (Besides, the money I've saved on what could have otherwise been my last trip to the Waterloo IMAX will cover the cost of the Japanese Marvels 3D disc. Yup, perhaps cutting off my nose to spite my face - and then cutting off my face ...but there's a principle at stake..!)
