It would be great to get these original films with high quality 4k transfers for once.

It's true, the UHD of Jurassic Park looks shamefully mediocre. It could look magnificent, with a new, modern transfer.

Also cracks me up that the standalone of JP has an MSRP of $42, when I got the UHD set of the first 4 for $25 on sale at Amazon.

I'd pay $42 in a heartbeat for a remastered JP, but a repackaged version of the existing one is worthless.

First 3 need more than that! I'm a defender of Lost World but really the legacy trilogy could do with new scans and Dolby Vision pass done to a fresh grading. More in line with other Spielberg stuff that got a DV release.

But these surely gonna be same old discs. And why they're not coming in 2023 so they can slap an anniversary packaging is just a weird choice...

I would def pay 35-40$ per release if it was like my initial paragraph.

I would be pretty happy with The Lost World if it didn't have those raised blacks. Watched it again a few days ago. Had completely forgotten how awful they look at times.

There doing it to line up with the new movie and yeah it will be the same discs. Wouldn't surprise me if they triple dipped on the first movie though

Single release in May
Part of complete set of all 6 movies in early fall/late summer.
30th anniversary next year.

I'm just gonna stick with my 5 film collection, well my copy of those before they made it just one box. 5 slim cases with the two discs each and with great artwork for all 5, and then maybe get Dominion when it comes out. It'll stick out like a sore thumb but it's whatever.

Gotcha. Yeah I saw the twitter alert about the trailer after I posted that. Didn't know whether it was this year or next that was actually coming out... It wouldn't surprise me, either. What you theorize. Maybe a steelbook version too? Again again. The 5th+ variant of steelbooks for JP original.

Yep, it's a REALLY nice transfer otherwise but those clipped blacks cause all sorts of weirdness.

I wasn't expecting Jurassic World to get a standalone release.

Why on Earth would it not be individually released if others were? That was an odd presumption to make. Just saying...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I heard 1-3's prints were lost in the Universal fire...

I've never heard this. And it looks like the UHDs were sourced from negative/IP and not a release print.

Does Jurassic Park have the same “problem” as Panic Room in that they would need to re-conform the CGi effects for a proper 4K restoration? I gather the current DI for Jurassic Park is quite old?

Jurassic park would be like any pre digital intermediate era film. Think Matrix or Men in Black or w/e. They likely just used the scan from the late 2000's. The one used for blu-ray and for the 3D master after it.

So yeah theres now a "digital intermediate" from that (now kinda old) scan data. If this is what was repurposed for the 4K, that makes their claim of "fresh scans" bogus. Not that this would be the first time marketing/PR departments have launched out some generic announcement copy that was not accurate, or purposefully a (white lie) misleading to hype releases.

So long as they still have a good quality interpositive they can use that to source the VFX shots. There's many UHDs out there sourced from IPs that still look as good as scans from the negative.
