Angela Bassett is putting director Martin Campbell's currently shooting "Green Lantern" in check by signing on as the newest cast member of the DC Entertainment film property.

According to Variety, Bassett will star in "Green Lantern" as Dr. Amanda Waller alongside Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan, Blake Lively as Carol Ferris, Mark Strong as Sinestro, Peter Sarsgaard as Hector Hammond and Tim Robbins as Senator Hammond.

Bassett is not the only cast member to have signed onto the film in recent weeks, as both Temuera Morrison and Taika Waititi recently enlisted as Abin Sur and (presumably) Thomas Kalmaku just last week.

The addition of Angela Bassett is interesting for a variety of reasons. To start, she's a reputable actress that reinforces Warner Bros.' previously established tendency to fill tent pole properties with high value names — even in Christopher Nolan's "Batman Begins," a secondary character like Carmine Falcone was played by the highly respected Tom Wilkinson. It seems that "Green Lantern" is following that example.

More importantly to DC Comics fans is the fact that Bassett is playing Amanda Waller, a character with plenty of history thanks to her involvement with Checkmate and the Suicide Squad. Will Bassett reprise the role in other DC related movie projects, including the developing "Suicide Squad" adaptation? At this point, anything is possible.

Recently, "Jackie Brown" actress Pam Grier portrayed Waller on The CW's "Smallville."

I really only know Amanda Waller from Justice League Unlimited which makes me think about the DC movies having connections. Not familiar with the actress. I didn't recognizeanything I had seen from IMDB.

9-year-old Griffith, who has appeared previously in Changeling and Couple’s Retreat, will be shooting for 12 days as the role of “Robert”. We’re not sure what this character does in the film, but it could be that the “Robert” part might be a code name for the young Hal Jordan. Jenna Craig had already been announced to play the 11-year-old version of love interest Carol Ferris, but no child actor has yet been announced for Jordan’s younger counterpart.

Cool! I wasn't aware of that. Well, with all the shots that take place in space and the Green Lantern Corp I don't think she will have many scenes to shoot so I think they'll have her do her scenes after she's done with Gossip Girl. She can't dye her hair now.

They can always slap a wig on so she doesn't have to dye it back after the movie.

Jay O. Sanders is in Green Lantern

He was spotted on the New Orleans set recently, but now it is known which character actor Jay O. Sanders plays in Warner Bros. Pictures' Green Lantern. A writer for The Examiner wrote the following:

Speaking of Green Lantern, I was honored to be used as a stand in for Jay O Sanders who is playing the role of Carl Ferris, owner of Ferris Air where Hal, Ryan Reynolds character and Blake Lively's character, Carol Ferris are test pilots. I was very impressed with the studio but even more impressed with the dedication Ryan Reynolds has put into the character of Hal, aka. The Green Lantern. When I heard I was going to be on the set with Ryan Reynolds I was ecstatic to have the opportunity to watch the out takes we see on television first hand. Sadly [there] was no such thing, no funny business at all. Too bad for me, but excellent news for D.C. Comic Green Lantern fans. His dedication to the character will be well appreciated by the viewers. Living in Louisiana provides a chance that I will be able to see some out takes in person someday.

Sanders joins Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, Tim Robbins, Mark Strong, Taika Waititi, Temuera Morrison and Angela Bassett in the Martin Campbell-directed action adventure hitting 2D and 3D theaters on June 17, 2011.

Good to hear on both accounts. I like the actor and it is good to hear how Ryan Reynolds is playing the role (according to that one particular scene).

My contact on the CGI team for Green Lantern just sent me a couple photos he took while the artist was away from his desk!
I finally got a tidbit from my contact on the Green Lantern CGI team, or should I say a snapshot? I think he took the pictures with his phone, so the quality isn't as great, but it should give us an idea of what they're doing with GL's suit.

He grabbed the images while the artist was away from their desk. Apparently this is some of the initial work done for Green Lantern and is in preparation for some early posters and marketing materials.

I'm not sure I like the mesh/carbon fiber look, the lantern logo, or the Clooney like nippleage, but what do I know? I do like the Spider-Woman bust though )

That's photoshopped. Look at the lantern logo on the chest. It looks straight forward instead of slanted like it would on a chest at that angle.

I would imagine it's not a pic of the actual suit but something they are rendering (again if it's authentic) for maybe Comic Con coming up? He did say it was a work in progress, so who knows
