Default Green Lantern Movie green lighted!

It'll be the Hal Jordan origin story and not the Jack Black comedy that was rumored! Good news!

source

CHUD spoke with Warner Bros producer Donald De Line and confirmed that plans are still proceeding for a Green Lantern movie and that it will be a serious take on the character. Other than writer Greg Berlanti, who is still working on the script, no other names are attached to the project.

The comics storyline tells of Hal Jordan, a test-pilot who is given a ring of pulsating green power from a dying alien. The ring enables Jordan to do practically anything his mind can conceive--until it needs to be recharged by a green lantern. Donning the ring, Jordan finds himself a member of the intergalactic Green Lantern corps. The Green Lanterns are charged with defending their sector of space from all manner of threats.

Green Lantern isn't cool enough to have made it a serious version when there was a Jack Black version rumored. I can't ever get enough Jack Black.

Wow, that's great news. I was just saying in another thread that I wish they'd do something with that character. For a while, the Green Lantern was one of my favorites but it was so long ago I can barely remember it.

How many more comic book characters are there that don't have their own movie?

With these types of movies churning out hundreds of millions of dollars, I am sure the studios are actively searching for any superhero/comic book character they can put on screen.

BTW I love the irony of the thread title...

I've never been a fan of DC, and even I'm happy to hear this. Green Lantern is a pretty damn cool concept.

And as far as "how many" comic movies are on the way...a couple of years ago Stan Lee said there was no Marvel character that wasn't in some form of production. DC is finally attempting to keep up, and more and more "independent" comics (Sin City, Hellboy, Constantine, now Watchmen, The Spirit and...I know there's more. Crap, went blank) are really starting to flow. As long as people want to see live-action adaptations of cool, original ideas (and as long as their done well), they will keep coming.

Kick ass, love Green Lantern. Thank goodness they went with Hal Jordan. If it's successful, they could easily do the Emerald Twilight story arc at some point, leading into Kyle Rayner and an easy continuation of the (potential) franchise.

Thank you Marvel, for showing DC how to get rid of their "goofy" outsourced comic-book movies, and how to agenda all the little films toward the cause of the One Big Film.

(And if Warner couldn't figure out how to do that Justice League movie, looks like someone else had to show them how...Step by step.)

Thumbs up

This is GREAT news!!! I always wanted a Green Lantern movie and its about time Warner Bros. decided on going forward with it. Hopefully The Flash and a bunch of others won't be far behind.

DC should take note of how Marvel is introducing individual characters leading up to the Avengers. DC has it backwards trying to do JL with pretty much unknown actors playing somewhat unknown (to the average joe) comic book characters.

Hopefully they will do GL right. We'll see. It is a little troubling to see a first draft of the script not completed in a years time.

Default Green Lantern Finally On The Fast Track To Production?

Green Lantern Finally On The Fast Track To Production?

Just wanted to update this, I know there's a lot of fans of the man here

Quote:
Production Weekly's current issue has The Green Lantern slated as being in the development stage:

STATUS - Development
PRODUCER: Donald De Line - Andrew Haas WRITER: Greg Berlanti - Marc Guggenheim - Michael J Green
DC COMICS 1700 Broadway New York, NY 10019
WARNER BROS. PICTURES 4000 Warner Blvd. Burbank, CA 91522-0001

Each sector of space is protected by a Green Lantern, possessing a power ring that uses a powerful green energy to do anything within the limits of the user's imagination and will power. When the Green Lantern assigned to this sector of space finds himself dying on planet Earth, he tells the ring to find a suitable successor. The chosen replacement, hot-shot test pilot Hal Jordan, finds himself with a new job he never expected.

Doesn't look like they have a director attached but I thought last year Variety had said that Greg Berlanti would be the director of the project.

Don't know if anything has changed director wise, but it's good news for Green Lantern fans that there seems to be some current movement on this comic book favorite. After the Warner/DC meeting regarding their super hero properties a couple of weeks ago, the signs look positive for DC comic book fans hoping for another hero to hit the big screen besides Batman and Superman.

The description states that this Green Lantern will be the Silver Age's Hal Jordan and not Guy Gardner or Kyle Rayner.

you do realize the pun in your title thread don't you? well, i like green lantern so this is good news. but as for more comic book movies i hope they stop. it's getting old fast. and they're not trotting out any good ones. ant man? do we really need an ant man movie? now i could see flash and i would love that, but that's about where it needs to end. this trend is getting old and stupid fast. we're going to end up with too many crap movies if we don't watch out.
