Would that not mean that the UK sets would only have the original mono on all the titles except Vertigo? Or perhaps it was just a error on the screener? (hopefully) Apologies if there's been more recent specs posted somewhere that show the rest with 5.1 tracks, I'm not aware of it.

Not that it's much consolation, but at least only 1 of the 14 films would have that problem then (granted it's one of, if not the best, films in the set...).
And yet nobody complains that NxNW has never been released with original mono since the Criterion laserdisc, and still isn't present on the blu-ray.

Well, I'm the only one who caught it so far, so it proves that most people don't even notice such things. Therefore, it's easy for even quality control to slip up.

Either that, or nobody bothers. Which probably is acceptable on a forum!

I noticed it, but I never point out spelling errors on an internet forum. You can't compare that with professionals messing up the credits to a movie.

retablo,
Are you seriously equating a spelling mistake on an internet forum post with a commercially available product?
I can't with you.

Using spelling/grammar errors on a message board as the basis of an argument is probably one of the weakest. In this day & age of people on the run with their mobile devices errors are going to happen.
I'm sure I could scan your message history and find a few.

More importantly what is the final verdict on this release? Yay, nay, not enough info yet??

Not enough info yet (Nick Wrigley hasn't seen all the discs yet I don't think), plus with no other views or complete reviews there's certainly not enough for a consensus.

Talk about depressing news! I really thought Universal turned a corner with Jaws, and now this! I really like BOTH my UK sets on preorder(Uni Monsters), I hope I don't have to cancel either/both!

I also have both the UK Hitchcock Masterpiece set as well as the UK Universal Classic Monsters Coffin. I hope both are released on time and everything that we want them to be. Also from the UK I have the Marval Avengers Assemble 6-movie set, which I had to pick up because of the US briefcase delay.

I also have pre-ordered...

ALL US VERSIONS:

The Indiana Jones Collection
The Game
Cabin in the Woods
I, Robot 3D Limited Edition head
Arachnophobia
Dial M for Murder
Ed Wood
The Devil's Advocate
Bond 50
Prometheus
Strangers on a Train
Rosemary's Baby
Friends: The Complete Series
E.T.
Moonrise Kingdom
Lawrence of Arabia Collectors Edition

So, just in case the Hitchcock set get's pushed back, I'll have plenty of other movies to keep me busy. But the UK Hitchcock set was my highligh of this year, and there are so many this year.

Yeah we pretty much have the same stuff on order!
I'm just a little concerned about this Hitchcock set, and what it will mean for the Universal Monsters set. I'll keep tuned into the thread and hopefully we get a clear picture of what's in store(for both sets), prior to 10/2!

I don't know if this has been asked in the thread already but in the case of Frenzy, what was the gain in redoing the titles? Only a lot of extra work. Poorly done too.

Yeah, I am a little worried too, however I can overlook the little spelling errors if the transfer is nice.

Time will tell, we can always back out at the last second and cancel our orders if we hear something negative about the PQ or AQ.

from nick's twitter: "Whatever this MARNIE processing is (it's certainly not "smoothing") it succeeds in creating a gauze over the image and when Hitch pans, or there's any fast movement, the gauze gives us a horrible moiré effect. Worst on textures and patterns."

That's it, Marnie was the final straw. Cancelled.

The release date has not been pushed back (so far) - so this will hit the streets within less then 3 weeks... I don't think there would be enough time to recall & fix the obvious problems on such short notice, even if they wanted to - question is of course, do they even consider taking action at all? I doubt it, if only because this seems to be a "general, large public" targeted release (despite the price), of which probably only a minority will react.

For those who do not follow the Criterion forum, here's what's it all about;

Quote:
Remember ye olde analogue TV? When it was stormy outside and the TV reception got a little "snowy"? It's like that. Need to turn the aerial.
(...)
the MARNIE fuzz that I've described 80% GOES AWAY at the start of Chapter 18 (01:55:55). The last 15 mins look okish.

Done the same, slept on it then realised I dont need to spend hard earned money on a handful of good transfers and a box of printed postcards. Had my reservations since the David Lynch mess, worries about the universal monsters box now - will it be all the work done on Dracula/Frankenstein and not the lesser titles......
