While this reviewer doesn't understand that the display being active or passive has nothing to do with the source, it is another "crisp and clear" subjective evaluation of the 3D PQ.

"As far as the actual movie in 3D goes – thankfully, it wasn’t all just hype. Predator 3D is a very good 3D flick utilizing passive 3D technology which will not affect your eyes like active shutter systems. The effect was very crisp and clean, without any noticeable darkening of the image. For watching it for only a few minutes, I know I will be picking up a copy of the movie when it gets released later this year."

http://gamingshogun.com/2013/07/25/a...ego-comic-con/

Be sure to check the stills in the link. The first has a shot of the clip playing on the JVC display. Clear and clean and devoid of grain. There is also a close up of the cardboard promotional passive 3D glasses with the Blu-ray and JVC logos prominently displayed which, in my opinion, confirms beyond a shadow of a doubt that the automated JVC Kenwood process was used for the conversion, just as it was for I. Robot.

Criticism of the UHE was rejected by Fox over 2 1/2 years ago, and the criticism did not affect sales of that 2010 release. (currently in the top 100 in Blu-ray Sci-Fi on Amazon.com) The continued fan base support is the reason it was selected for 3D conversion. Brighter, clearer and cleaner (less grain) is the new paradigm for the vast majority of today's Blu-ray buyers.

The probability that this 3D release is anything other than a JVC Kenwood automated conversion is absolute zero. If anyone still thinks that disk 2 in this release is going to be the 2D version of the movie, prepare for disappointment.

From the back of the I, Robot 3D box: “Head for the future of action and excitement with this exclusive gift set, including I, Robot on Blu-ray 3D for the first time ever – plus the 2D Blu-ray and DVD versions of the movie, along with hours of in-depth extras- housed in a meticulously crafted keepsake designed exclusively for sci-fi film fans!” (3:33 on the video)

It has already been clearly clarified that the info regarding the Ultimate Hunting Trophy edition WILL NOT apply to the standard release -- those specs were already published on the website prior to SDCC, yet Finn would not confirm the final edition will have a DVD copy. Also, under repeated questioning specifically about whether or not this was NOT THE SAME TRANSFER AS THE UHE, he said that it was brand-new, and also stated that the set would contain separate 3D and 2D Blu-Ray discs. So, unless he is directly lying to us -- possible, but currently without precedent, as I have asked him questions about other releases in the past and he has been truthful -- then what you're saying here is baseless.

Sorry, Tyler. I'm not convinced. Are you trying to say that the conversion process used on Predator 3D is not the same as that used on I, Robot? Everything I have read indicates that it is. That process results in a 3D disk that will also play on 2D equipment in 2D (left eye of the 3D). A second Blu-ray with a 2D version of the film is redundant. Given that, the second disk will be the extras which wont fit on the first disk. It may or may not be a Blu-ray.

I base my opinion on the official information from Fox, not a couple of cryptic tweets from Finn.

With that in mind, the only emphasis of this release is 3D, not 2D. While there may have been some improvement in the learning curve on automated conversion since I, Robot was released, you have to balance that with the fact that with I, Robot Fox was working with a vintage 2004 movie rather than a 1987 Predator.

Who is the Producer on the Predator 3D blu-ray ?

On the Alien Anthology the Producer was Charles de Lauzirike. I found no informations.

Further the german DVDs and Blu-rays have very bad soundmixes with some errors.
I hope they inprove this for the new Blu-ray, but I have no ides who is responsible for this. Fox germany says they have nothing to do with the technical things(neither on the german audio).

These are all the extras from the last release: a preview of the spin-off/remake/reboot/sequel Predators. First is a sneak peak of the new film (2 min.), and then “Predator: Evolution of a Species: Hunters of Extreme Perfection” (11 min.) which has producer John Davis and Robert Rodriguez speaking about the original and the remake. That’s the new. For the old there’s the John McTiernan commentary track, along with text commentary by Eric Lichtenfeld. Both are excellent, and well matched by the making of “If it Bleeds We Can Kill It: The Making of Predator” (29 min.) with then-new interviews with Shane Black, Carl Weathers, Bill Duke, John McTiernan and John Davis, and period interviews with the writers, and most of the rest of the cast, and some of the crew. “Inside the Predator” (31 min.) which offer extended riffs on certain elements of the film (Arnold, Predator Kevin Peter Hall, the make-up, etc.) compliments the making of. There’s two sections in Special effects, one dedicated to red suit used to create the invisible predator (2 min.), and the second to “Camouflage tests” (2 min.). “Short Takes (10 min.) offers four smallish anecdotes that are tangential to the film, but are nevertheless fascinating. There are also four deleted scenes and outtakes (5 min.) none of which add much. There’s a trailer for the film and Predator 2, a photo gallery (which features a photo of the briefly-cast Jean Claude Van Damme as the predator), and a “predator profile” still gallery.

More than likely, the above will be the "out of this world extras" referred to in the Fox Connect release info. Perhaps a few new Fox Blu-ray trailers will be included. Given the amount of data in the 3D release, the extras will be on a separate disk.

No, he and others have stated that the JVC process was used. That's not under dispute. But he also claims the JVC process was done off of a new master, which will be presented on 3D and 2D, and in a direct question about whether they would be on separate discs, he said they would be (which is the only thing that makes sense, if the set has two discs and, at the time, there is no DVD in the set).

I don't understand why there's so fuss about if the 2d dvd is in the same disc with the 3d or in a seperate one.
the only thing I'm interested in is a good quality 2d disc. Now, if i have to pay $5 more to get the combo pack , I don't care..

edit: oops , sorry. I guess you all mean that there won't be a 2d disc, right?
i thought that was clear by now!

The root of the issue is whether the "all new 3D transfer" will result in an improved 2D version of the film on Blu-ray. Much has been said in the Predator thread about the picture quality of the 2008 and 2010 (Ultimate Hunter Edition) Blu-ray releases. Until we get the specifications for the 3D release and actually get the disk(s) in the hands of reviewers, the question will remain unanswered.

Well that's good enough for me. Thank you for posting this info.
Definitely good to know Fox is reworking it...like I said, now we just need to see how good/bad a job they do.
Seeing as I own both copies(and the Part1/2 box) I'll be getting this release regardless to add to the collection. Should be interesting to see what they come up with this time!

Fox did a great job with obvious new transfers for catalogs like Porky's and Raising Arizona so the more I think about it, why not with Predator? It's going to draw far more sales and gets a lot of people to double or triple dip.
