Ok, so just to confirm one last time...

This new 2 Disc Release also includes the 229 Minute Version released in 2011? Is that correct?

It does contain the 229 minute cut, but I'm not sure that they are the same transfer.

Wal mart carries the 1 disk Blu-ray and the dvd of the new version.

No new special features sadly so a pass for now for me even though its one of my top ten movies.

WB dropped the ball so bad on this release .

oh well.

Thanks for the confirmation, was afraid of that when I first saw the pics for it.

Wal-Mart has the single disc edition for 12.96$ Slightly cheaper than amazon. I went to 1 Walmart that had 11 copies + the 1 I purchased, another had 8. Target did not have either edition at 2 Target locations (1 regular 1 super).

The Walmarts did not have the 2 disc or dvd. Although both had the DVD Criterion of Hard Days Night for 14.96

Unboxing video that I found:
[Show spoiler]

Confirmed: no digibook; only 2discs amaray + separate book in slipcase. It's a shame that discs are in amaray, could be at least digipack (as Alexander or James Dean Collection)…

Edit: The second, "theatrical" disc is the same as in previous 2011 release (I've checked today on my copy).

Many people feel that with a movie of this length that spanning 2 discs would have been greatly beneficial to its appearance as macroblocking has been noted in reviews.

I've yet to watch my copy, but WB squishing 4+ hour film in a single disc is typical and ridiculous.

Others are disappointed in not having a digi-book. Color issues and noticeable differences in film grade/preservation states. Many people also cant find this film in their area.

These are complaints from around a few forums I've seen.

For me, I was hoping for the "travesty" that is the 139m version since we have yet to get this release and the most recent extended DC edition. This way all 3 could be owned.

Every cent spent on a release of the 139 min version is a waste. Warner should use the money for the proper versions instead.

As for macroblocking that was a problem of the Italian release, none of the reviews of the US discs mentioned any of that yet.

I agree this should have been split into two discs.

4 hr 11 min and 1.85 AR in a single disc.

I understand the hatred of the film, especially since it was not the directors intended vision, but having not seen the film, I would like to see it. I assumed it could be done through seemless branching which would not be too terrible to do.

My interest in the film comes from what a friend who teaches film does to the students as a project. Film all variations of a film and watch them, note the differences and tell him why you feel x feelings.

I'd love to own again Star Wars Theatrical, the 97 SE and the later revisions with the new Anakin ghost at the end.

Simply because, if its out there, I'd like to see it.
I saw the 139 minute cut when it was released in the theaters. Thus it was the first version of OUATIA that I saw. It was horrible. It made no sense.

Then I heard about the butcher job and when the 229 minute version was released in the theaters about four months later I was first in line (with my wife). Unfortunately, almost no one else was there. The film's box office potential had been killed by the first release. But it was immediately evident that the film was a masterpiece.

I know the 139 minute version was released on VHS (Beta also, maybe). It may have been released on CED (aka RCA SelectaVision). I'm pretty sure it was not released on laserdisc. It is now apparently properly buried.

I can understand how some people may want to see and/or study how the film was so screwed up. Perhaps you could track down the old VHS somewhere. About the only proper venue for the 139 minute cut would be Mystery Science Theater 3000.

Regarding the chronological Godfather: I have it on laserdisc. Although I'll probably never set up a laserdisc player again, it's actually very good. I would buy it in a heartbeat if it were ever released on blu-ray.

I bought the single-disc edition of this extended director's cut from Movie Stop today. I can live with the picture quality of the added scenes if they flesh out the whole movie.

I'll either add my 229-minute Blu-ray disc to this one in a double-disc case, or sell it altogether if I like the quality of the 251-minute version overall.

I am still debating on what to do. I might just buy this set to have both versions. I've heard on another forum that the extended version color is improved from the Italian extended version and the detail is just SO much better.

I'm off on this for now
I have the original Blu so buying a version that has been downgraded to look more like the inserted added scenes is not my cup of coffee.
Perhaps if i get it cheap enough i'll get the extended

I don't own any version, so that is why I am considering this.
