I have a bunch of UK/Canadian/French UltraViolet codes that I want to redeem. I am in the US with a Flixster account. Can anyone explain how to 'vpn' to those countries to redeem? Thank you!

Download a chrome extension called tunnel bear.

Sign up its free

Once logged into it. Select the region and then go to that regions link provided on the UV slip.

Redeen code and link it to your flixster account

Yes, once it is in your account, you can watch from anywhere. I have a friend in CA buy me a steelbook once and then I called Flixster to see about using the code, the CSR told me to have someone from Canada add it and it wouldn't matter once it was added.

For people in the U.S. who have ordered from Filmarena before, do you usually pay an import or customs fee? Or no? I'm interested in a few steelbooks from them, though I'm not sure if there are any additional fees. Thanks in advance!

I haven't ordered from them, but I've bought hundreds of steels from other countries and have never paid import fees. I haven't heard of anyone else having paid any in the US either.

There are no customs fees to the U.S. But FA's shipping is not cheap. I join FA GBs and get bundled shipping (2 to 4 steelbooks at a time) and the shipping is much better that way.

Shipping stuff to the UK from anywhere can incur vat, excise and a royal mail handling charge if over Ł18 i believe. I had something inbound the other day from the states, costs were paid in the US. But as it was labeled as being $40 i got a charge for VAT Which was Ł8. But the gits at royal mail add on a handling charge of Ł8.

Wasn't charged excise. But always be aware of the VAT something i forgot

Default Steelbook + UHD

Hmm what are you fellow steelbook collectors doing with UHD releases? I am tempted by the steelbook, i.e. Deadpool but rather get the UHD release for the 4K Disc.
Is anyone contemplating buying the UHD and replacing discs in their steelbooks? That will get very expensive, there is a good ~20 UHD releases coming in the next couple months and ~30 already out.

Personally I think all Steelbooks going forward should include the UHD Disc.

I have a 4k tv. But no player, may pick up the ps4 4k version in spetember however.

I'm only buying marvel steels at the moment as they have 3d and the 4k releases won't have 3d. So I'll have to buy them twice anyways.

Until then depends on the movie. I'm not buying the lego movie in 4k for instance. But i would buy deadpool as there is no 3d.

The one i am really waiting for in star wars and what happens when the 4k and 3d versions come out at the end of the year. My guessing that would be before rouge one

I bought the Deadpool Steelbook and UHD releases, swapped the Steelbook shell with one that had two disc slots, kept the BD and UHD (and DC slip) in the Steel and sold off the leftover BD, DVD, and DC. All told it cost me like $25. Will probably just continue doing this for select titles that I wanna future-proof and also get the Steelbook for.

I too bought the UHD and swapped the dvd from the steel. I've done this with most of my steels so far that are available in UHD.

Btw- I also put the Target postcards in my steelbook.

Like I've done with every past format, I've collected over the decades: wait for a bigger market then invest when prices drop.

I was bored the other day and because I am getting tired of paying good money and getting dinged or spine slashed Steelbooks I emailed Scanavo and this was their response for everyone who is interested in a tad bit of info:

Quote:
Hello Luis,

The product itself is high quality print made out of metal.
If you keep this in high temperature / humidity the product will end up being rusty at some point of time - this will happen to any other metal products. And we can’t give any guarantees’ as it all depend on how the products are being kept.

For the spine lashes it has been an issue in the past when parties in the logistic chain where opening the cartons with SteelBook® products, using a knife.
We have however added a “warning” on the outer cartons that should prevent people from using a knife, so it’s not an issue we see in the same extend anymore.

Hope this answers your questions,

Best regards,

Team SteelBook®

Just glue the box lids instead of taping them. That would probably reduce the use of blades, to open shipping boxes, thusly reducing the overall amount of spine slashes. Probably more cost effective too.

Has anyone tried these stands, looking to get a few, just wondering if there are any reviews.

Thanks for any information.
Aguirre: Wrath Of God, Nosferatu The Vampyre (Werner Herzog) and Seven Samurai all received steelbook releases. Overall though they tend not to release any steelbooks
