... so I thought I had a pretty good idea, but I did not see this one coming at all!

I knew as a Paramount title, it might be available to Kino, but for whatever reason I'd overlooked it. I hope it's a strong seller and the elements are in good enough condition to produce an impressive result.

To be honest, I'd thought of Cease Fire as a bit of an obscure title, but looking through the extensive new webpage, it seems more high-profile that I'd realised. The studio must've had a lot of faith in it.

I look forward to going through that material in greater detail as time permits. Fascinating as always.

2017 is becoming a brilliant year for vintage 3D blu ray releases with Ceasefire being the seventh announced 2017 release so far this year and we are only in March. hopefully Warner Bros and Universal release a vintage release this year

How do myths begin? We've often wondered why so many people have believed the original INVADERS FROM MARS was filmed in 3-D. The matter has been extensively researched and production documents have been examined. Menzies and Alperson could have used the Natural Vision camera as it was available at the time of principal photography in September 1952 but nowhere in the pre-production for the film is 3-D lensing even mentioned. The film is photographed with layers but that was Menzies' visual style with composition. Look at his other films and you'll see that technique used over and over again. As an example, check out this frame from an original 1953 Supercinecolor release print.

We've finally discovered the source of this long-standing myth: the May 21, 1986 Variety review by "Lor" of the remake. Not only is it mentioned in the text, they actually modified the original 1953 review to support their bogus claim. Why would they do such a thing? Shocking!

UPDATE: The myth dates back to the book "Science-Fiction in the Cinema" published in 1970.

Hi Bob,

From the 3-D Myths page:

30 of the 50 Golden Age domestic features were originally composed for widescreen, ranging in aspect ratios from 1.65:1 to 2.00:1.

What 3-D title was composed for 2.00:1?

I hope The two studios follow your lead but unfortunately I believe Warner Brothers has lost interest in releasing any more vintage 3D. There hasn't been any positive word since KISS ME KATE was released. At least Universal through the 3D Film Archive gave us the magnificent IT CAME FROM OUTER SPACE. REVENGE OF THE CREATURE I hope is in the future I hope.

I believe you're right about Warner. Their business model of spending up to 1/4 megabucks on restoration and 3D mastering means that anything left of their "golden age" titles issued would have Warner lose their shirt! And they don't seem interested in exploring other more financial viable alternatives. It's just too bad that they control such a large block of films. I also believe that once "Gun Fury" is issued, that's about the last we'll see from Columbia/Sony. The 4 titles they've issued so far were all restored and 3D mastered for DCP over 3 years ago and nothing has been done since. I think we've got all of their "important ones". And as for Wade Williams 3 3D titles, his having been publicly shamed, you can add his spite to his greed!

I do believe we will see the majority if not all of Universal's 6 titles and the same goes for Paramount's. Even "Hondo" and "Money from Home"; those license agreements do have time limits. Also the same for the United Artists films, and even maybe Fox and TT will get it together for "Gorilla at Large". Overall it's my firm conviction that we'll see about half of the 50 "Golden Age" titles in the next few years.

I'm just concerned that INFERNO might not do well for Twilight Time since there was an earlier release that most of us had access to. I also hope GORILLA AT LARGE doesn't jump ahead of GUN FURY. It's been over 30 years since I've seen it but I think it was something of a dud. Lee J. Cobb and Lee Marvin notwithstanding. On another point does anyone know how well IT CAME FROM OUTER SPACE performed for Universal? I truly hope you're right about the Universal titles but I would have hoped to hear some release news by now.

What's funny is Universal returned to the 2.00 ratio recently for Jurassic World.

We'd like to ask a favor for a very special man. Our dear friend Trustin Howard (aka Slick Slavin) would love to hear from his fans right now. He recently took a fall and is now in a rehabilitation center working to build up his strength and mobility.

He's a wonderful man and a living legend with a career in comedy dating back to the 1940's. If you know his work from "Stardust In Your Eyes" (in our 3-D RARITIES collection) or one of his other career highlights, such as writing and performing the rockabilly classic "Speed Crazy," introducing Elvis Presley in KING CREOLE, writing for Joey Bishop and "This is Your Life," etc. please take a moment to send a note of appreciation and encouragement. It would really mean a lot.

Please write to:
Trustin Howard aka Slick Slavin
West Valley Health Care Center
7057 Shoup Avenue
Room 23A
West Hills, CA 91307

Thank you very much!

I remain optimistic about Twilight Time and WB, (although sometimes against all available evidence!). I have little doubt that Twilight Time will release Gun Fury; I would be very surprised if that didn't happen. Gorilla At Large remains up in the air. If they surprise-announced it ahead of Gun Fury, I'd be thrilled, but mostly because of the uncertainty about Gorilla.

I presume TT have factored in the existing 3D-Bluray release of Inferno to their sales projections. Although they may not be aware just how many of those sales were US imports by 3-D enthusiasts. It's probably a good film even if you were to watch it in black and white 2d. There may be decent potential to sell to the 2d audience as well as 3-D fans.

Personally I'd like to see any return on investment for Inferno go into mastering the other Fox 3-D movie, Gorilla at Large. Of course, I'm not naive, I know that's not the way it works. But the way I see it, Fox only have one remaining 3-D title to master and then they'll have done their bit for 3-D history and posterity. It shouldn't be that big a deal.

Maybe Nick Redman should find a way to poll people - you know, "I already own Inferno but I'm buying the TT edition too", "I already own Inferno so I'm choosing not to buy the TT edition", "I do not own Inferno, and am buying the TT edition", "I have a 3D setup but don't own Inferno and am not buying it from TT" or whatever.

I already own it and am certainly buying it again!

I'm sure it has sold well since release, for both the restored original 3D version and 2D version for those without 3D capabilities.
On that hypothesis we should expect REVENGE OF THE CREATURE if not as a single then part of the inevitable double dip CREATURE box set.

I would be interested in TT's version if TT has remastered it(which I doubt, knowing how TT works). And I would really doubt anybody could do a better job then that 3D genius Dan Symmes, who did the version we have now.

With talk now of a remake of Creature of the Black Lagoon, I think a blu-ray box set will be coming with all three movies and the two titles in their original 3D glory.
If they put out a box set, I'll pass and just wait for the eventual release of the individual titles. Did that for the Hitchcock VistaVision films and the original "Creature". Have zero interest in the 3rd film; it's the poorest of the 3 and not even in 3D. And I'm not going to buy that AND double dip on the first one. One thing would change my mind: If they had 3dFilmArchive do a corrective remaster of the 1st film, which might happen as I'm betting Universal will have 3dFilmArchive do the master on "Revenge" if that's not happening already.
