It's great you say that about the grain acting as a sort of natural anti-banding agent as I've seen it greatly reduce or completely eliminate banding in some anime as well, anyway, will check that weapons test scene for shimmering and edit this post.

Checked it out and it looks pretty clean throughout the scene, especially in the corridor during the conversation with Tricky.
The shimmer/aliasing on the stripes of his suit here in the MI4KBD... ![]() ...is not present in the UHD, which looks rendered flawless by comparison. |

Apart from effects elements, I think I can see hints of haloing in the Gaumount made conspicuous in the Mastered in 4K blu (look along the bun style 'do):
http://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?a=2&x=...2&l=1&i=8&go=1 Overall, the MI4K disc has always struck me as suffering from over-enhanced shadow depth. If that's what was applied, it does bring out the appearance of detail...at the cost of looking manipulated. For those who've viewed the UHD (this has already been addressed, but I'm always interested in more takes): How much of an uptick in detail would you say the native 4K brings to the table...as it compares to the MI4K, 1080p Blu? .. I was looking very forward to this release. That being said I purchased it at the midnight release. So I did watch the remastered blu ray unconverted by the Oppo uhd player just last week, and popped the uhd in to check it out. I will tell you that I didn't see or hear any shattering differences between the two formats. I would say save your money on this one, as much as that saddens me. I really think that they have made this movie already look and sound as good as it can get. Just my humble opinion as a huge Fifth Element fan.

Just for the record, I want to reiterate that I thought the image quality here looked overall very nice. It just also looks sharpened, mildly but noticeably. I didn't compare it to the BD afterward so can't rate the improvement on a scale or whatever, but I just wanna make sure people know I thought it looked great. Just with a specific flaw.
Maybe I'll A/B it with the BD tomorrow for funsies. |

Hopefully you meant that people should provide input on 4K/HDR releases only if they have equipment capable of taking advantage of them. I have both a Samsung JS9500 and LG C6 and both make 4K UHD look amazing. Granted, each year the technology improves but that doesn't make my "old" models obsolete! |

Let's not be overly poetic or obtuse here. You asked if the UHD is a worthy upgrade over the "Mastered in 4K" standard Blu-ray when two posts above yous states that there is aliasing on the BD that isn't present on the UHD. Therefore, your question was answered before you wrote it.

It's the same Atmos track as the last BD release. A pretty cool remix and one of Sony's best efforts so far to create a new immersive experience for a catalog title. Coppola's Dracula was not far behind. Universal could learn a few things.
