Hopefully the rest of QT’s catalogue quickly follows this.

Two down, seven to go (unless you want to count Death Proof, which I do!)

I think that it sucks that they don't allow people to have the best possible version of the movies at home. F.e. Dunkirk with atmos-mix would have been better than with the 5.1 mix.

Best possible versions at home are what was in theaters.

There's a lot of assuming going on regarding the intended format of Arrow's version, formally announced or not.

The original 5.1 is excellent, so that is good. But DTS-X or ATMOS would have been nice. I'm thinking Tarantino, like Nolan, has no interest in approving immersive audio remixes of their films.
I get that people like remixes, I used to go nuts over a really good DTS 5.1 remix especially back in ye olde DVD days. However as I have gotten older I am much more concerned about authenticity than anything else.

If the film has a 70mm 6 track mix, great let's use it. If it's a movie like say Hard Target and it just had stereo I would be mad as the film has a pretty fun 5.1 mix which many would have heard in DTS during its theatrical run. Would I be fine with Air Force One in stereo? Hell no. Is the movie in mono ala Taxi Driver? Great, let's keep it that way unless there was some special 70mm mix as well that we can also have on the disc.

If that Atmos or DTS:X mix was in addition to the original 5.1 I wouldn't care but if it is the only option I certainly would. In these situations if the remixes are missing I wouldn't shed a tear and this is coming from a guy who is planning a 7.2.4 setup when he gets his new house after hopefully riding out the insanity of the US housing market somewhat.

So I plan on getting all those speakers, but I want them all to be used when they are meant to be instead of insisting retroactively that they always should have been.

I understand. It's not a deal-breaker. But as long as they have a really good track regardless, I'll be fine. If they make a new immersive track that enhances the experience without removing the authenticity of the film, that's even greater, terrific example: The Indiana Jones trilogy on 4k recently.

Yup, that's always a welcome thing for something like the Indy set and I'm glad you and others can enjoy them

I just wish they had the original LRCS stereo and any 70mm mixes they may have had as well, as those mixes are part of the original theatrical experience.

Will certainly be buying this right on Day One, but sweet Jesus, is Tarantino ever going to finally get around to approving a new HD transfer of Reservoir Dogs that doesn't look like sour frog-ass?

Agreed, the upmix doesn't add much anyway and can take away from the main layer of speakers IMO, pretty much always used it when I added the overhead speakers but now I will switch to legacy mode on the receiver if it's a 5.1/7.1 mix

*edit: I usually choose the newer mix over the original tho

It's not complete without Deathproof! Deathproof was in my top 5 Tarantino flicks until Once Upon a Time... it has been pushed down to 6 .

It looks like most, but not all, of the special features are being ported over. I wonder if that is actually the case or if things just weren't included in the press release.

It could go either way. It does feel like press releases are becoming increasingly unreliable. I've seen about four or five different breakdowns of what the A Clockwork Orange UHD is supposed to contain.

I don't revisit my favourite films as often as I'd like but the slew of catalogue titles this year has given me plenty of reason to revisit a lot of my favourites.

let Arrow have another film that they can do some good for.
Universal 4K UHD release has same extras as previous Blu-ray release

If arrow release is still happening you can expect new disc extras be done and packaging differences

It would not be unusual to have Universal and Arrow do separate releases
They would be different releases and different release dates

if this is still on the cards for Arrow to put it out, i'll just wait for their release as i'm sure their 1080p disc will be the new 4K master instead of just a recycled, decade old Universal blu-ray.
