Kind of wish that there were individual releases rather than the all or nothing set. I'd need it sent to the EU and it's not fun with import/duties etc added on.

I like the set, but a lot of the later films are dreadful, it's really only the first few for me. Maybe one to look out for in a sale or something. Glad I know where to find the full-fat 3D disc now though!

Yes it's definitely a very mixed bag as far as film quality goes. Imo Halloween is a far more consistent franchise in terms of overall quality. As you say, the first few are pretty great at least.

Apologies if this has already been covered here at blu-ray.com, but if it was, I didn't find it. I was wondering if anyone (either here, or elsewhere on the net) has done a breakdown of the differences between these 3 versions:

I'm really only interested in the first 6 films, so the Shout! release was never something I seriously considered.

If there isn't a breakdown anywhere, if anyone would care to share their thoughts on what they feel is the best release, I'd appreciate it. Transfers/encodes; Extras; Uncut versions; 3D/non-3D, etc. If I read it correctly, the 3rd release above has better transfers for some of the early films, is that correct? Thank you in advance for any help.

As far as I can tell from reading about them, the oldest Paramount set is the exact same discs as their previous versions. The newest release used the new 4K transfers of the first 4 films so it should be a bit better for those. They all use the same double-feature discs of 5-6, and 7-8 though, where the Shout box gives em all their own disc and 6 the proper blue color scheme. All the Paramount discs have the green 6, so if that is a favorite of yours, the Shout box would be the better option since it was blue in the theater. Oh yeah, the Shout box also has the true 3D part 3 and no option to watch the red/blue (doesn't work at all and gives you a headache) home 3D version. But that didn't get ported over with the new 4K scan of 3, so I think the newest Paramount set loses 3D completely for 3.
Just checked the reviews and sure enough "Note that this release only includes the 2-D version of the film; there is no anaglyph or stereoscopic versions included".

Thank you for that information. I appreciate it. I'll probably get the newest release, but it does suck knowing that the colors for Part VI are wrong, and there's no 3D for Part III! It's nearly impossible to justify getting the Shout! release, however, as I don't have any interest in the later installments.

Jason X is so much fun though.
Hell (9) has one of the best kills ever in the unrated (tent spear).
It has the Alice Cooper "He's Back" video and lost footage from part 2.

Then again, it will never be nearly as cheap as the Paramount sets. You might could sell the later films to someone and get close to even. Freddy V Jason and the remake won't get any interest since they are out on their own (and somewhat despised), but 9 and 10 should sell easy for like $15-20 each. Maybe a few bucks for the box if you find someone looking to replace their damaged one. If you don't care about extras, the bonus disc would probably be another easy sell.

Not trying to talk you into it, even if it sounds like it. I'm in the early stages of a Shout boycott myself since their CS went to shit and dissed me. Credit where credit is due though, they did knock it out of the park with their Friday box.

If you're wanting the third film in 3D and don't want to pay to import the Shout set, you may have some luck tracking down the original disc on eBay. The initial disc had the opening credits projected incorrectly (but the rest of the film plays without issue); if you're fine with that mistake, you can probably find the original disc on eBay.

I take it the UK collection from 2019 is the same as the oldest US one?

Or PM me an offer. I got the early error discs. Part 3 was the least messed of the 3 messed up ones. I can probably beat ebay prices unless they are selling for $3 with free shipping. Got to at least cover shipping and PP fees.

Not 100% sure, but all signs would point to that being true since Shout's remasters didn't come out until Oct 2020, followed by Paramount slapping them on new discs in their Friday steels and new sets.

Anything that pre-dates the Shout set will be the older discs. Shout’s set was the first time the remasters came out.

I finally ordered and received the 2021 Paramount re-release. Found it on Ebay for 30 and 5 dollars shipping. I borrowed a bud's copy to make sure they were genuine Paramount releases and they are. I bought the tin release way back whenever that was. Now I am stuck with two copies of these 8 movies. Oh well. Three of the four movies have truly never looked better with two and four looking astonishingly better. I hate part 3 anyway and that is hugely fuzzy through this entire release. They clearly had no interest in fixing it from the awful 3d conversion they used.
