Yes, I'm more than over the 250 hours now on my 5020, and beginning to think about getting ControlCal to input DNice's settings...does anybody have an idea of how much this costs and, more or less, the instructions? Just to have a basic background of the process.

It's not free...lol. The individual calibration files for each TV model are free, but the program itself requires a "donation."

First you fellas will need a computer that has an RS232 port (old school), or "they" have a USB-to-RS232 cable you can also get I believe. AVS has a thread dedicated to this & Control-Cal has its own site too. I hope this helps or at least send you in the right direction... I don't own Control-Cal. The only time I have seen the program was when it was used on my 5020 by a pro-calibrater. The settings used were not off the shelf but custom for my 5020s environment. The non-elite Kuro's don't get the credit they deserve...

Default Did you guys get the NEW firmware update yesterday?

The second and latest firmware update for Pioneer 9g plasma models speeds up the tuning of channels and a few other minor things.

Yea pioneerelectronics.com then go to Kuro displays and it will say latest firmware update. Once you scroll to the bottom and it will show the latest firmware update.

CC cost $35. you need to make a donation to get the activation key.

I think you might have to sign up to forum also.

And here's everything on how to set it up and what you need.

I did it on my display and it is SO WORTH IT! Looks incredibly natural and with more pop and brightness than Pure mode. I only use the ISF Day and ISF Night settings on my TV now. Sometimes the ISF day is too bright!

Controlcal and D-Nice's setting made the extra $1,500 I had to pay to get the Elite completely worth it. It costs $75 for Controlcal, the serial cable and the USB adapter. Crazy cheap for the enhancement it makes.

Thank you guys for the heads-up on the firmware update (3x over). Now we just need Pio to release a update to give the non-elites "pure" mode... Maybe once their all gone...wish-full-thinking, huh...

Yeah let us know if you can get it at that price, my bro's on the fence cos his budget's around 2K. When he went in last week they wouldn't budge from that "sale" price.

Pioneer displays are getting harder to find and possible most retail stores and mail order places will be sold out completely by August or September (estimate only)

After stopping at my local Best Buy yesterday I discovered that they were completely sold out of PDP-5020FD's. The PDP-5020FD floor model was even removed from the wall and was sold to someone. Also the PDP-6020FD was completely sold out accept for the floor model. Best Buy wanted around $3,600 for the PDP-6020FD floor model (don't remember the exact price on the floor model). The Best Buy employee informed me that all the stores in the entire state were out of PDP-5020FD's, and PDP-6020FD's and they would not be getting anymore. Of course some stores around the country might have one or two.

So what I am hearing is that there are only 3 models of Pioneer's that are left at most Best Buy stores that have the Magnolia section. Those models that can still be purchased are the PRO-141FD, PRO-151FD, and PRO-111FD. Best Buy currently has the PRO-141FD marked down to $4,999.98 and the KRP-TS01 table top stand is $399.98. The PRO-151FD is marked down to $4,999.98 and the PRO-111FD is marked down to $2,999.98.

The Best Buy I stopped at informed me that they only had a PRO-141FD in an open box and the floor model left. I had the Best Buy employee look and some other states had PRO-141FD's brand new and in stock but QTY's in some states were fewer than 10. This is Pioneers top of the line Elite Signature series. Best Buy has never carried the PRO-101FD.

Now the PRO-151FD there was around 60 brand new in the box left in some Best Buy warehouses in some states. The PRO-111FD only had around 30 maximum brand new in the box in some states.

Warning about purchasing the PRO-141FD and PRO-101FD: I am hearing from reliable sources that there is a shortage of table top stands and ultra thin wall mounts for these Elite Signature series. In theory Pioneer most likely made 1 table top stand and 1 ultra thin wall mount for each PRO-141FD and PRO-101FD model but there have been a lot of wholesalers and high-end dealers going out of business lately and from a reliable source I am hearing that both the table top stand and ultra thin wall mounts are almost impossible to locate for some reason. The situation is getting so bad that some online dealers are lowering the price of PRO-141FD's to under $3,500 and PRO-101FD's to under $2,500 since they are having a hard time moving the inventory without the table top stand. So before buying the PRO-141FD's or PRO-101FD's make sure you are able to find the table top stand or ultra thin wall mount first. The display cannot be used without one of those mounts.

Some large Wholesalers have the table top stand and special ultra thin wall mounts back ordered but since Pioneer exited the plasma business it is unknown if they will manufactory any more stands or wall mounts. In theory Pioneer would have made enough for all their Elite Signature plasmas, maybe some online wholesaler that went out of business has the stands and wall mounts in the their warehouse somewhere. To keep cost low Pioneer did not include the stand or wall mounts with the Elite Signature series. This way customers can choose which type of mount they want to use on the monitor and do not need to own both a table top stand and wall mount.

The KRP-500M and KRP-600M that were part of a limited run of 3,000 or more are also getting hard to find. Many online authorized Pioneer dealers are out of stock on these models. Also one should make sure that they can get the table top stand or ultra thin wall mount before buying the KRP-500M and KRP-600M monitor.

I added the following information as a update to my original post:

Update on the Pioneer tabletop stands and Ultra thin wall mount situation for the PRO-141FD, PRO-101FD, KRP-500M, and KRP-600M

I checked the Pioneer USA website. The KRP-TS01 and KRP-TS02 table top stands are both listed as Temporarily out of stock with an ETA of over 60 days. It is rumored that Pioneer might manufactory more stands. The plasma displays were assembled in the United States using both USA and imported parts. The USA plasma factory closed in April. The KRP-TS01 stands were made in China so Pioneer might have more stands made. Hopefully Pioneer decides to make more stands.

Now you can purchase the individual parts for the stands on the Pioneer website to create a stand but Pioneer has some of the key stand parts on backorder.

As mentioned before many dealers are also out of stock on the Ultra thin Pioneer wall mounts which are required for those that want to wall mount the display. Currently Pioneer has the factory new Ultra thin wall mounts in stock for both the 60 inch and 50 inch display. They are charging full list price. The KRP-WM01 60 inch wall mount is $350. And the KRP-WM02 50 inch wall mount is $200.

As of July 2nd 2009 table top stands and Ultra Thin Wall mounts are in stock again from Pioneer for all 2008 9th generation displays.
