I am also not a fan of black bars, but I deal with it if the movie is filmed entirely and released that way. The movie just looks SO much better during the IMAX scenes, that I could tell the quality was worse when it cut back to the black bars. And I'm not even a videophile nut like some people.

The only cut I liked was when Catwoman leads Batman into the cave in widescreen, and when that gate hit the ground it switched full screen. Like it was scripted the way it swtiched the ratios. I'm not good at explaining it but I though it was really cool.

That would be 1 Lb, 10.4 ounces without the packing box and padding - and I'm afraid that weight won't mean anything until it's packed. The plastic "shell" is fragile and you're going to have to really protect it with plenty of bubble wrap and a hard box if you don't want it crushed - especially at this time of year. Good Luck.

Yeah, I really liked that cut too!

Yes, I'm not a fan of black bars, however all I really want is the original aspect ratio on all movies. I want it the way the director intended, that way the black bars are justifiable.

I never minded the IMAX ratio switch in The Dark Knight or the The Dark Knight Rises. I love how clear and crisp the IMAX scenes are, I use them to configure my HDTV.

I like it. If they didn't shift AR, we wouldn't get any IMAX scenes. I'm happy with what we got.

This is usually where nycomet comes in. He must be on vacation

The PQ of the 35mm scenes are so much better than they were in TDK. It's not jarring when a 35mm scene follows an IMAX scene. In TDK when that happened the 2.40:1 parts look like a DVD. Not in rises. The 35mm shots are really nice.

I didn't say it looked bad by any means, but you can tell its obviously not as good as the scenes in IMAX.

I'll never understand why that box didn't come with the BD set. IMO, the dvd trilogy packaging blows away the BD trilogy.
Well if you do, please post what it looks like inside. I'm so tempted to just order it from AmazonUK, but would prefer the US if it comes with 6 discs!

iTunes is way too closed in. UV is messy but at least it works on more devices like the PS3, Android, 360, Roku boxes, etc...Now to satisfy both groups, it would be best if they had a code that works for both UV and iTunes, just like they did for The Hunger Games.

Looked to be roughly 40-50 copies at my nearest Target. Of those, I'd guess about 6-7 were gone by 8:45am opening day.

uh, the quality isn't worse because of the black bars, but because IMAX is a much higher quality format.

I can't wait for the next Nolan project.
Nolan's use of IMAX IS a gimmick.
If he wanted it to not be gimmicky, he'd shoot the whole movie in it.

Currently, Nolan does it because the IMAX cameras are too loud to be used during dialogue scenes. So he uses the IMAX cameras almost primarily for action scenes, inserts and exteriors and traditional cameras for scenes requiring dialogue. He's not doing it to annoy you.

You don't know much about IMAX filming I see. Read up before making such silly claims.

Yes. They have a stand at the front of every store. I went to two and there were about 100 or so copies.

What do I need to know? I don't care if it's hard to shoot a movie in IMAX. If half your movie is flipping between the two formats, it's an irritating gimmick.

Surprised this is coming from you, 42041.

There's a reason why the whole movie isn't shot that way and mostly only actions scenes. Im sure you know this already.

Non IMAX scenes are really disappointing. Especially when scenes that are covering one sequence switch back and forth. Bane's fight outside (1.78) being taken inside (2.40) comes to mind.
