Insert the disc in the changer, place the DVD/Blu-ray case in storage never to be seen again. Exciting (or not so exciting) pics of my DVD/Blu-ray collection shown below. :-P

DVD Collection: 2,142 discs (6 Sony DVP-CX985V DVD Changers located in A/V closet.)

Blu-ray Collection: 332 discs (1 Sony BDP-CX7000ES Blu-ray Changer located in Salamander Synergy A/V Cabinet, lower right side.)

I created an activity for my Philips Pronto Professional TSU9600 remote called "DVD Juke" which allows me to browse my DVD/Blu-ray collection by cover image right on the LCD screen of the remote. Once selecting the given disc a series of loading pages are displayed while the remote sets up my system to watch the selected disc. Once the disc has finished loading and starts to play the remote dims the lights in the room and takes me to the activity for controlling the particular changer. Navigating the "DVD Juke" activity can be done solely by using the remote's hard buttons and scroll wheel or by touching the LCD screen instead if you want. The pics linked to below taken from the editor show the progression as seen on the LCD screen of the remote if I were to browse to the title, "X-Files: Season 8", then selecting the first disc.

The nice thing about this solution is that it's completely self-contained. I'm simply updating the configuration file for the remote as I add new titles to my collection. No other equipment is required to make the activity work that I wouldn't already have in place otherwise for individual control of each changer. If you'd like to learn more about my configuration file for the TSU9600 just hit up this thread over at Remote Central. That being said, I also have the ability to browse my Blu-ray collection and initiate playback of a given disc via my plasma display as I have a HTPC running My Movies for Windows Media Center which supports my Sony Blu-ray changer. So long as Windows Media Center is actively running on my HTPC I can also use the My Movies iPhone/iPad apps instead if I want. Eventually I do plan on upgrading my DVD changers, so that I can use My Movies with my DVD collection as well. I actually purchased 5 additional Sony BDP-CX7000ES Blu-ray changers with the intent of replacing my DVD changers with them. I've decided for now to keep my DVD changers in place however, and just add additional Blu-ray changers to my setup as needed. If anyone has additional questions feel free to send me a PM or simply reply to the thread I linked to over at Remote Central.

...and now back to our regularly scheduled program. Did not intend to bump this thread off topic. Let's see those pics!

I recently upgraded the BD storage space above my main rack where I held all of my TV Blu-rays, now all all of my TV Blu-rays as well as my concerts and musicals fit up there.......thanks to the 6 nifty clear plastic cases that I got from Best Buy for $9.99 a piece. (....on sale, normally they are $14.99 a piece.)
Before...
[Show spoiler]

(BD capacity above my main rack was about ~80-85)
After...
[Show spoiler]

(now around ~135-145 BDs will fit up there)

I am still missing having wood up there but I think this is gonna work out just fine.

......edit: Also, you might not be able to see it but this move freed up a bunch of space on my main rack, like ~2 feet or so, I adjusted the entire rack after moving the concerts and musicals up there, so its not easy to see, but its awful nice having a bit more space for furture Blu-ray purchases.

It's a never ending battle that's for sure. No wall space perhaps on the other side of the room from your existing rack? You definately need some more breathing room.

i've noticed some of you split up your collections (slipcovers and non slip covers). it doesn't bug you guys if one part of a trilogy doesn't have a slipcover and the other two do? do you guys really split them up?

It bothers me at first but I also separate them by studio so sometimes they get split up anyway. I always prefer to have the slipcovers if a release has one but with Mad Men S4 I never bothered to get the slip. The other seasons don't have one so it wasn't a big deal to not have it as I'd prefer them to be together.

I also have Sons of Anarchy which only has a slip for S2. I bought it right away and I've thought about taking the slip off to put them together but I really don't want to do that either.

Then there are other times like with Meet the Parents, Meet the Fockers and Little Fockers... I have the slip for Little Fockers, MTP has one of the Universal 100 slips, but I'm not gonna bother getting it because then only MTF is without one. So I'd rather have LF with and MTP and MTF without.

It's kinda complicated sometimes lol.

I find slipcovers very annoying, just another damn thing to take off before you can open the case to get the disc out. Unnecessary. All mine are put away in the closet.

they're all splattered all over my bed right now. I'm going to try the slipcovers, non slipcovers, box sets and see how I feel about it for the next few days.

I was hesitant of putting my boxsets together instead of mixed in alphabetically, but I did it 4-5 days ago and I love it. I'm gonna separate the slips and non slips next as well as steelbooks

A 5'x8' window pretty much takes up all of the wall space on the other side of the room. But I guess you are right, its a bit crowded. I made a few adjustments just now and I think it did some good.

^^ luckily the top row of my main rack is a tad taller and the first half of the B's in my collection are on the top shelf so Ben-Hur fit with no problem, I put the Ben-Hur box away. BTW, if you were wondering, the other tall BD on the top shelf is the Apocalypse Now: Three-Discs Full Disclosure edition. Luckily, these are the only 2 BDs in my collection that are too tall to fit anywhere else on my main rack.

Why organize by slip cover, just use the slips to line the cats litter box.

After watching cinema sickness' epic video I wanted to make one. Sorry about the darker bits as I did my best with what light I had at the time.
