Great stuff, mine is two weeks time, I’m not a party guy so a movie and a nice takeaway having spent the day with family will be the expected plan.

You guys are still at it, Collecting Old Movies. How about some New Movies that will probably not make it on Disc, like this one on Prime with Jake Gyllenhaal. Watched it last night, I liked it!

I collect both. Quality is king in my home.

I have the original, and by far the best, on 4K disc.

Some of us care about quality and surround sound. You are only experiencing the economy vanilla version and we have the luxury, full fat, creamy stuff.

I would not bet against it. Here is a thread that lists the Amazon titles that made it to disc, several of which I own.

We can only hope they learn a lesson from this. Sign up to make a movie at Netflix, Amazon or Apple and chances are really high it won't get a theatrical or disc release.
If they care about their "legacy" they would not sign up for a streaming company.

This reminds me of Tom Hanks who felt bad that Greyhound went streaming only when it was bought up by Apple.
Only to then sign up for his next movie at …Apple.

I'm sure someone mentioned that only the Laser Disc releases contained the unaltered versions of the films.
sometimes they might not have been happy (time constraint, staring off and pressure from the studio, tech limits....)

Other times it can be change for change itself (buy the extended cut with 2 more minutes)

sometimes it can be a change of perception over the years. You brought up SW. One of the more controversial changes is: In the original Han Solo shoots first, back in the day's when western movies where still in everyone's mind being the fastest shot was a big deal and a quality. But today having the good guy pull the trigger first is not as as acceptable so changing the sequence and the bad guy misses is more socially acceptable.

I learned a long time ago if no one believed in the content it would end up as TV movie or direct to video and for the vast majority that doubt was well placed. When that doubt happens to be misplaced it would end up with the a route eventually. I am happy letting others waste their time and keep watching old movies until that alternative content proves to be more than just fodder.

P.S. my comment is meant as a general comment and not meant to be about this release in particular. I have not seen this movie and maybe it is amazing. If it happens to be a gem in the rough, the powers that be will then try and make the money they are missing out on on going the direct to streaming route and then I might check it out liek all other direct to TV/video out there.

Lol... ROAD HOUSE (2024) is precisely the type of movie that I don't care to own on physical media and am more than happy to have the ability to stream..
I have a back log of titles that I need to get around to before this... but if the stars align and I get around to seeing it, it's 4K HDR10+ in 5.1 surround... because it's one of AMAZON's "premiere" titles, I know that they'll alot enough bandwidth to it so that it looks and sounds great... if by some miracle, it turns out to be a masterpiece ( or even on par with the original), then it'll get a physical release.... I just can't imagine anyone wanting to see this title today holding out because it's not available on physical media..

I'm certainly interested and I would gladly buy it on Blu-ray. But I won't watch it at all if it doesn't come to physical media.

Incredible weekend of entertainment. I watched John Wick 4 4K and Aftersun on Blu-ray.
The Arc De Triomphe sequence in JW was one of the most impressive action sequences I have ever witnessed. Jaw dropping stuff.

Aftersun left me stunned for different reasons. A mesmerising exploration of a woman’s memories of a childhood holiday with her father, which I won’t spoil here.

I’m still thinking about it now, and I gave it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ which is rare for me, maybe two films a year get such a high rating, if that.

John Wick 4 was great and pure escapism after the intense but incredible Aftersun, (I watched it the day after) I give it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

When I was in university, I'd wait months, and travel a distance to get a new release on LaserDisc even though I had a BLOCKBUSTER less than 50 feet from my front door. I was a bear for OAR even in the days of 4:3 TVs.

It used to drive my girlfriend absolutely crazy and was the cause of quite a few fights.. LOL.. I totally understand you sticking to your guns...even as I find fewer and fewer hills worth dying on as I age.

It is not about holding out, especially in this case where I have prime even if I never use it to watch content. It is about asking myself am I interested in investing 2h of my time and the answer is no, not at this time. If it is then released on physical media that tells me it was better received then first thought and if gets a limited theatrical release that makes it even more interesting for my 2h.

it is not about dying ion a hill for me. To put it bluntly if MGM said no one will be willing to buy a ticket at the theatre for this and no one will be willing to buy it on physical media that the only person willing to watch it is the person that sees it as the fist thing to watch and he is too lazy to pick something else, I don't feel I have the 2h to waste on it.

This is also nothing new go back to the early 2000's and I had the same attitude and posted the same thing on forums, back then it was made for TV movies and direct to video that I considered bad signs for the content and my time.

Yeah.. as a guy that doesn't watch trailers and likes to go into movies as cold as possible, I often look for other indicators as to whether or not a title would be worthy of my time... although all the hours of my time are not equal... JAKE GYLLENHAAL channeling PATRICK SWAYZE is late night / early morning insomnia salve for me.

The fact that it went to streaming without a theatrical release would indicate that some bean counter made a qualitative judgment based on a test screening... early reviews seem to indicate that it isn't "that bad" lol and that bodes well for a physical release so I can see some merit to your point... for this release...

Although I wouldn't in general view a physical release as a low bar for guaging a title's time worthiness...

One of my favourite movie's of all time will probably never get a physical release... TOO LATE (2015)....I "own" it on iTunes..lol..

On that note, I think there's some hilarious irony in someone like penguininfinity never getting to see a movie like last year's LEAVE THE WORLD BEHIND... which was obviously made by people with the same diehard attitude against streaming...

In the last few weeks I have watched the following in HD or UHD Blu-ray, several in Atmos

Arriving soon:

Mixed in with the above was several catalog titles that have made it to Blu-ray or UHD Blu-ray. These were viewed for possible addition to our disc library. As you can see I have probably watched a lot more new movies than you have.
