For full disclosure, I liked FF 1 and Wolverine and I love the Daredevil DC, but it's no secret those are not considered very goodmovies by most folks.
Chronicle?
A low budget found footage movie that starts out as a quasi horror movie that turns out to end as a superhero movie.
Apt example. I enjoyed it.

But FF is an iconic comic propetty that deserves quality ambitious attention--- not to be transferred into Chronicle 2.
Tranks first cut actually had the team encounter the same crystals seen in Chronicle-- no lie.

This was his chance to make a bigger budget remake in his mind.
Sorry, that doesn't cut it for a venerable franchise like FF

I'm not implying that long CBM movies are all great. That's silly. Long CBM movies have a huge good to bad ratio compared to short is a fact though.

Longer CBMs.....
3 Nolan Batmans....all pretty good
X- men 2, XM:FC, THE WOLVERINE, XM: DOFP...ALL pretty good.
MoS....pretty good...with some major haters
SM 1, SM 2,ASM...PRETTY good. SM3, ASM2.... not well regarded.
GL........poor
Superman Returns....poor
Watchmen......I love it, IDK the consensus
Ghost Rider 1....poor
Punisher1..... mixed
Ang Lee's Hulk.......poor
12 MCU movies from 112-143 minutes...mostly well regarded, with RT scores from 67% to 90%.........they have their detractors but most studios would envy 12 movies in a row raging from 67 to 90+ at RT.

My "head math" (LOL) tells me that longer CBM movies are well over 60%
at being critical and financial hits and spurring more sequels.

The shorter ones are at 15% using those indicators.

Will this FF movie be a hit, maybe, but the odds are against it.

Chronicle was about an hour and a half long and was enjoyable.

Chronicle II is going to be about an hour and a half long and the runtime makes you think it won't be very good?

That doesn't make any sense.

I think I'm one of the few who prefer Daredevil TC. Namely due to the scene in the TC where he is about to get it on with Elektra and he hears some poor sod in trouble. In the TC he goes "ah stuff it" and keeps on with Elektra. In the DC he does a noble Spider-Man-esque "Go get 'em, Tiger" and goes help. That ruined it for me.

Good one.

For folks who wanted Chronicle 2---there's a good chance they'll like it. For those hoping for a great FF movie the odds are less.

Last thing about run times....

If the script for a movie is 130 pages (equaling 130 minutes run time by Hollywood's rule of thumb) and the movie gets released at 115 (as often happens) you can clearly see that they likely trimmed the fat and got it to the right pace and the movie has a decent chance of being good.
If that same movie gets cut down to 87 minutes---as happened to Superman 4----you would ne playing the odds well to say that when they cut the movie together it was a mess and they want to get rid of huge chunks of bad things.

In December right after they cut the movie together, Trank was asked what he thought the final run time would be. He replied 120-130.
Now after lots of reshoots we find that the movie is 99
minutes. The reshoots will make up several minutes of thr current cut at least---so at least 30+ minutes of what Trank thought wad worthy---other people at Fox DID NOT!
Can this movie be any good?---possibly, but it's pretty clear Fox thought his first cut was a mess.

Default Early review screenings of the movie

From an IMDB user:

"There was a Fantastic Four screening last night in Atlanta. It should be ok as long as I don't get specific. It was miles better than the previous 2 and also better than Ant-Man and Ultron. Everyone has a believable scientific explanation for their powers.

In the end it, covered beneath all the played out superhero save the world *beep* is a story about friendship (Reed and Ben)and family (Susan and Johnny) and how the two are sometimes inseparable. Trank wasn't kidding when he said it was inspired by The Fly, because the best part of the film is the 2nd act where their lives are changed and because of that the 4 have to learn stick together and developed a bond (Reed/Ben didn't like Susan/Johnny in the 1st act). The 1st act was great too! Introducing each members giving us their childhood background story which were sweet and touching.

Aaaaaand the 3rd act reverted to an interdimensional slugfest between the F4 and Dr. Doom. Which is something u've seen in countless other superhero movies

The VFX is unpolished. Looks outdated.

The dialogue ranges from soul piercing to laugh out loud bad.

The performances were great. Toby Kebell killed it.

The cinematography and a cool blue color grading fits the film.

The film's best parts are not the action scenes but the emotional ones."

As well, my uncle works for Fox. And he doesn't normally like superhero movies. But guess what? He said that this was actually pretty good. He said he liked this better than they first avengers movie and said it was what he was hoping for in the movie. He has read the comics growing up and said that a lot of the movies of not do the comics just I ecbut he said that this one was actually pretty well done. He also said that the reshooting, while they brought about a messy production were worth it in the end to make the movie the best it could be.

So a movie with "laugh out loud" bad dialogue and substandard FX---with a bad third act is "miles ahead" of Ant Man and Ultron? LOL.
So that reviewer hates MCU movies and this one gets high marks just for being different.

Best part---"believable reasons for their powers"----HOO BOY. Just what I always wanted from an FF movie----believable rrasons for their powers!

But the guy sounded pretty honest, at least. Not the rah-rah quotes I've seen up till now.

But will this movie be a hit if the best parts are the drama and the action weak?

I'm actually interested in how they come up with believable reasons for their powers, even though that is anathema to you.

I also see nothing wrong with what I bolded, although maybe you were just making an observation and not judging him for it.

But let's be real: MCU fanboys are probably not gonna like this movie.

It's not anathema to me, but you only have so much time in a movie and how much do you want to spend making super powers seem "real"?
Was the first FF movie not great because of a weak explanation of how they got their powers? I think other things hurt it a lot more.

It was both a judgement AND an observation as someone who has disdain for what Marvel does is much more likely to embrace this.
I like more than one kind of comic based movies.
I love MCU
Iloved Watchmen
I liked MoS and hope to love the sequel
I liked the Nolan Batmans

I would trust a reviewer who likes ALL kinds of comic based movies rather than one who looks down on a whole group of them.

My favorite part was where he says his uncle works for Fox, and then talks about how the uncle thinks Fantastic 4 is a better movie than The Avengers. I'm sure being a Fox employee has no bearing on the uncle's opinion.

You don't think an employee of a company can be honest about what they aRe trying to sell? Yeah, me neither.

On the other hand nobody put a gun to his head and made him admit that. So maybe he was just putting it out there to be open.

But seriously, that's not a rave review. Unless you hate Marvel--It's not going to get you rushing to the theater.
Especialy after bashing the third act and the FX.
If that's a Fox shill-- their shills are as lame as everybody else they hired for this movie.

I think the one thing most of us can agree on is that it's best to keep the IMDb forums as far away from here as possible.

It can't possibly be as bad as TERMINATOR:GENISYS. I'm going to see it first day if possible. I'm beyond intrigued. I just hope it's either surprisingly good or utterly disastrous; either way I'll be entertained. The worst outcome is the most likely one: It'll be neither.
