Have you guys read the graphic novel it was based on? I have and really enjoyed it, but haven't seen the movie yet. I've put off watching it because of the PG-13 rating, whereas some of the themes in the book were very mature, so I'm sure the movie is a watered down version.

I noticed that it was based on a graphic novel. I have not read it. Le Metos rocks! Those soundtracks are killer.

I am indeed Goth, great stuff. For the record, I enjoyed Summer Of 84 and Turbo Kid too. Own both on Blu-ray.

As for Old, I’m not much of a book guy to be honest. I do read real life stuff but not often, I like true crime and autobiographies.

Are you familiar with bands like Electric Youth, College, sweet Tempest, the Chromatics and empathy Test? They are typical examples of the music I love.
I’m listening to Johnny Jewel stuff at the minute.

I finally have some time to head to the theater this week. Watched The Fall Guy Wednesday and catching The Bikeriders today. Going to see 2 more over the weekend, just have to decide between The Watchers, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, Bad Boys Ride or Die or The Exorcism. So many movies, so little time.

I haven't seen Exorcism yet but of the other 3, I found The Watchers to be the weakest.

I do rent digital though, but I refuse to pay for movies on a monthly basis especially if they decide what I can and cannot see.
In all honesty, if videostores were still around, I'd still rent from them.
I don't stream either, but for me it is simply that I prefer collecting films so I can watch what I want when I want without hassle. Even before there was digital UI could not be bothered to rent just to save a few bucks.

I think it depends what "the group" is.

I never used Cable packages , satellite packages and stopped renting physical media over 3 decades ago.

IMHO paying to have access to some content for a limited time (which I think of renting and will refer as such further on) has seriously shifted to streaming. Streaming is a lot more convenient than physical media rental and in many cases cheaper. It is easy to under value the cost of streaming while over value the cost of cable/satellite packages (i.e. Joe pays X$ for "cable" but that X$ is A$ for Internet and B$ for TV and compares that X$ directly to the Y$ the price of Netflix and forget he also has 5 other streaming subscriptions and should add that A$ for his internet from the cable co that he is still paying)

I also think renters would buy some films just to have on hand (for example if they can't be bothered to go to the rental store) and that mosty likely shrank a lot

But the true collectors (like myself), the very small minority, s some , maybe have moved to purchasing digital but not to streaming rentals. Why would they? it is a fundamental philosophical difference, I bought physicals media because I did not want to find myself in the annoying predicament where I would go all the way to the rental store just to find out they did not have what I want to see, I did not change to rentals by mail because it is just as annoying being home and what I want to see is not one of the X I have on hand right now. And it would be just as annoying if I was home flipped on my streaming provider and they did not have what I want to see right now.

there are a lot of people that I know that I would call renters that had some films at home. I live in Canada, some times you don't feel like having to put on a coat, gloves hat, boot get into a frozen car to drive on icy roads crossing your fingers the rental place is open and you will find a film worth watching.

there was also a time when the cost of a film in the bin was very close to the cost at the rental place. while now you are stuck paying that same price if you don't watch anything that month, why decrease the value buy paying separately to own a copy. Just wait until it is back on rotation at your streaming provider.

Convenience will always be more popular than quality or ownership.
agree but would emphasize cost as a huge factor of what you call convenience. I am sure if there was a service that for 20$ a month they will send you to keep all the the films you want to buy on UHD BD.

It was a damn hard week, but it was worth the effort.

[Show spoiler]My ophthalmologist found no sign of my disease having reached my eyes. He feels that my eyes will not need to be rechecked until a full year from now.

The best news is that after weeks of testing, and months of waiting, I was accepted into a new investigational drug trial. I am one of only 1000 people that will be participating in this trial.

The drug is tentatively called ALXN2220 and it is an "anti-body" drug that aims to remove amyloid deposits in the heart in the hopes that doing so will allow the heart to recover to some extent thereby improving and prolonging life.

It will be an IV infusion done every four weeks in addition to my other treatments. However, one-third of participants will receive a placebo instead of the investigational drug. Even so, this drug trial is an incredible opportunity. At the minimum, I will be helping with much needed research of this rare and fatal disease and at most I could benefit greatly from it.

Currently, there are no treatments that remove amyloid from the heart; that's what makes this new drug trial so exciting. All other treatments, short of a heart transplant, only slow the progression of this disease.

The trial begins for me in the second week of July. For now, I get a rare respite for 12 days until my next round of appointments. I will probably sleep for half of it.

I'm new to this thread, so I don't know any of the regulars except for Steedeel. Been catching up and learning about your situation. I'm sorry you're having to go through this, but the way you've dealt with everything is an inspiration. I'm so glad you were able to qualify for the new drug testing. I wish you all the best and will remember you in my prayers.

Take care.

Couldn’t believe it when The Chromatics played out the two parter opening of Twin Peaks: The Return. Shadow was the perfect song for that opening two parter. Being back in the twin peaks universe felt like slipping into the most comfortable slippers imaginable.

Well said about Vilya by the way. He is a huge part of why this thread has endured for so long.

The Bikeriders is heading to theaters this weekend, and the new film was helmed by Jeff Nichols (Take Shelter, Midnight Special), and is based on the photography book of the same name by Danny Lyon. The movie follows a motorcycle club in the 1960s, and ComicBook recently had the chance to chat with Nichols and some of the cast about the project. Nichols talked about working with his longtime collaborator, Michael Shannon, and we brought up how their first movie together, Shotgun Stories, wasn't available to stream anywhere.

"I have good news on that front. Sony Classics is re-releasing it on June 18th," Nichols shared. "I mean, you're kind of talking to the wrong guy. I shoot on film. I love vinyl. I made a 1960s biker film, so I hate my cell phone. I do everything I can to not be a part of modern society, but I fail daily."

BJ's Wholesale Club Streaming is the new Cable

Streaming execs think TV’s future looks a lot like its past

Quoted from link below

"There seemed to be broad agreement on most of the big themes: More ads, higher prices, and fewer big swings on prestige TV. These changes are all united by the shift towards profitability, rather than growth-at-all-costs. If the initial prices of many streaming services seemed unsustainably low at launch, it turns out they were — prices have been steadily rising, while the streamers have also introduced more affordable subscription tiers for viewers who are willing to watch ads.
In fact, some execs told The Times that streamers will keep raising prices for the ad-free tiers with the aim of pushing more customers to sign up for ad-supported subscriptions instead.

It's just cable again. And music streaming is the new radio. I always preferred my VCR over cable and I still like my own media more than getting to view someone else's copy.

It's just cable again. And music streaming is the new radio. I always preferred my VCR over cable and I still like my own media more than getting to view someone else's copy.
What a depressing read.

Well being about the future the good news is you have options and also decisions. What you spend time on being the most important decision of all.

I really prefer the way ads are done on my Peacock freebie subscription when it's 3 minutes before with a timer. I play the ads to no one while getting things ready and it's like no ads at all.

I think this is only done for the newest things though and catalog things get ad breaks. (Not sure about this... I do know Chucky has ad breaks like it's on cable or broadcast TV. )

And then there's the absolute free online movies like Tubi. I don't really care how annoying ads are when the programing is completely free. ATV4K now features a mute button. Tubi and Pluto are more like broadcast UHF TV. My library based streaming movie service (Kanopy) is ad free but the content AV quality is sort of low.

It's easier these days to take money than to make money. Maybe that's always been the case.
