We're not talking about Sue looking different for a couple shots, it's like half the damn movie.

People say this sort of sentiment a lot on here but it doesn't apply to Fantastic Four, apparently. (Well, unless a mod suspends you.)

You've seen the movie already? I look forward to a second by second breakdown of its continuity errors and why that makes it the worst movie ever.

Okay now. I'm only here to say that I am not wishing this movie to fail. I would like to see it surpass my very meager expectations, but it's just that so far I've seen nothing that really says it will. I will still go see it and I would like it to be at the very least decent to not awful. And maybe it will. It's just not the most promising movie of the year to me that is all and the cast's, especially Teller's, comments on it have not really done anything to raise optimism. For Teller it is the exact opposite. "This not the kind of film that will get an 80 or 90% at RT. These kinds of films rarely do that." Really? I've seen quite a lot of high profile superhero blockbusters recently bust above 80%. He could at the very least be putting on a BS facade right now and boost the film. It just seems he is not at all into it. I don't know of any other actor on any other movie, even if it was completely terrible, that would downplay their movie like this before it hits. After it hits, if it is awful, then you will hear the actors say that they knew it was awful all along. They aren't going to be giving an air of that before the release.

This is the kind of stuff I don't care about but people get really worked up over. It doesn't matter to me what Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan, Josh Trank or anyone says in press junkets or interviews. All that I care about is the movie itself, not the drama surrounding it. I think some people take this stuff way too personally.

I've been consistent on one thing: I'm going to wait and see the movie before passing judgment on it. Not saying it'll be good but that it might be.

It's not really "personal" it's just not good when the main star of your film is already sounding like he's against it and it has not been released yet. Look, I'm not over here sweating bullets on it or anything close. I hope it's good, but the way things are just aren't promising. Drama surrounding a film can sometimes be proven right. I hope this is an exception. Truly. And I'm not a "nerd". I love superhero films despite never reading comics in my life. So this isn't even to do so much with differences from the comic, but with the overall look of what they are selling. I usually wait to see a film too, and I still do, but regardless you are going to have expectations and they can be low or high. Mine are low. That's not a final judgment on the unreleased film, it's just my expectation based off of what Fox has released about it in trailers and TV spots and posters so far. Expectations are practically unavoidable.

This need to make it darker and make it edgier and make it more realistic is just… ugh. Now, I am not saying that I hate all darker and grittier comic films, hello Dark Knight trilogy, but good grief they are freaking POP PULP FICTION not Fahrenheit 451 and darker never automatically equals better. That's why Marvel Studios and the Spidey franchise get my love more than any other out there nine times out of 10.
Nothing wrong with this opinion, I just disagree with it.

For the most part the more seriously you take the subject matter the more likely I am to enjoy the film. It's a not 100% thing, but usually that is the case. I like MCU movies like Iron Man and Captain America, but I would like them even more if they were more serious. That's just me. Even my taste in comedy is for dry, sarcastic or black comedy. Everyone is different.

Because everyone is different, I think the variety we get is good. Marvel are taking care of the very whimsical comic book adaptations, and good for them. Why do people want all other comic book adaptations to follow them though? I like that Warner are doing darker stuff and Fox is doing more realistic stuff, it makes for variety and "something for everyone." In short I totally get why you prefer style A over style B, but I don't get why you subsequently want everything to be style A. Let me have my style B like I let you have your style A.*

*This is a general statement and not actually directed 100% to you personally.

That's fine and I admit that there are some characters that lend themselves to darker takes. Batman being a biggie. Marvel's characters though have always been done lighter in tone. Iron Man, Guardians of the Galaxy, Captain America, and all of them do take their stories seriously, just not too seriously. If you take these characters too seriously you run the risk of making them even sillier. Look in my collection and you will find the darker DC films in there as well. I like them, but Marvel's have more replay value at the end of the day for me. And I am fine with you dude seriously. Nothing personal taken at all. Keep it real.

Cool man.

I do agree the Fantasitc Four seem more fit for Marvel's style, and this movie does look boring in trailers. I think Fox's take on the X-Men is perfect though.

Perfect? Maybe not as they have had some bumps in the road, but they've been good more often than not.

I think StingingVelvet means Fox's X-Men have a perfect style and tone. Which I definitely agree suits the movies.

Well that is true. The first two and Days of Future Past are the best, but then I do have a little heart for Last Stand and I love The Wolverine. That Tokyo setting. And Hugh is so freaking ripped in DoFP. I like that it was actually his idea for the butt shot. Apparently in the script it called for Logan to get out of bed with boxers on and Hugh said "I don't know how it's done in America, but in Australia you aren't going to get out of bed with a beautiful woman wearing boxers or anything." That's Hugh. Keep it real man, keep it real.

It's been well documented that there were rounds of reshoots that spanned many weeks. Fox was unhappy with the film an practically had much of the film reshot.

Here is the thing, if those involved in this movie took the subject matter more seriously, and didn't do whatever the hell they wanted, the movie would not look like this at all. This isn't what the fantastic four is supposed to be. The filmmakers did not take this seriously and that is why the movie ended up being more serious than it should have been.

I wonder if we'll ever get to see the original footage as deleted scenes or so on the upcoming home release. It sure would be fascinating to see Trank's original version.

I'd be conflicted if it made that much. I want the actors to keep working, which is hard to do when you have a high-profile flop among your credits. But even more so, I want Marvel to get the rights back. This movie only resembles the Fantastic Four in title, characters names, and (some) abilities. There's a lot more to those characters, and I feel Trank & Fox have truly missed the mark.
