Edited my post to explain why. It's more about the filmmakers being defiant than the characters themselves.

And the Vudu stream I watched looked better than theaters somehow, so that helped. Definitely won't call it a "good" movie (and wtf is up with Cromwell's accent, it's embarassingly bad), but I'd still prefer to watch this over The Lost World and JPIII. So that puts it squarely in the middle of the pack for me. There are still only two good Jurassic movies: Park and World. On a side note, this is the best-looking movie in the franchise despite the switch to scope and digital.
I would generally agree with all of this, although it may be better than World for me. I’m a sucker for great visuals and if this movie didn’t have them then it would be unwatchable for me.

Then at the very end, when they're driving with Clone Girl in the backseat, OWEN IS STILL DRIVING THE VAN! None of the characters change one bit from start to finish of this movie, and that's hysterical. They're defiantly one-dimensional.
FK almost takes a slasher film approach to Claire and Owen once they
[Show spoiler]leave the island
. I don't mind that myself since I didn't care for or about either character much in JW. Their chemistry was one of JW's few strengths though and that's still there in FK even if the characters essentially become expendable.

I rather liked that bar scene btw. It felt more relaxed and natural than anything in JW IMO.

Ugh, that just reminded me of the part in FK where Ted Levine shows up in the basement after all hell as broken loose screaming "I want my bonus!".

This film's writing was Scooby-Doo quality.

I suspect that even Scooby-Doo's writers would be ashamed to have their names associated with the following exchange:

[Eddie finds Ian, Sarah, and Nick trapped in a trailer hanging over a cliff]
Eddie Carr: What do you need?
Dr. Ian Malcolm: Rope!
Eddie Carr: OK, rope! Anything else?
Dr. Ian Malcolm: Yeah, three double cheeseburgers with everything!
Nick Van Owen: No onions on mine!
Sarah Harding: And an apple turnover!

The Jurassic Park/World franchise has been junk for years now. YMMV on how much you tolerate or even embrace the junk on offer in each installment.

I love that bit, sarcasm in the face of sheer terror. And it's preceded by a tour-de-force of a set-piece that's set to some genuine Williams goodness, if the sequels didn't "deserve" his music then that's fine but when they did get him it raised the movie a notch by virtue of that alone.

We're gonna have to agree to disagree here. It's the fact that the set piece is so incredible and played straight that makes the ham-fisted joke all the more irritating to me. And Spielberg then adds insult to injury by following it with one of the most gruesome deaths in the entire series. God I hate that moment. I can get behind most of TLW's trashiness but I always cringe there.

And TLW does have its great Spielberg moments too so I'm perfectly fine with Williams being used. Don't think there's a ton of memorable music in the film but I do like the darkness and mystery of the main theme.

The Hatari-esque theme for the hunters (who then become the hunted) is a standout for me. Love me some John Williams rocking percussion. Speaking of, The Lost World shared 1997 with Amistad, another Williams score with inventive use of percussion, and also featuring Pete Postlethwaite.

Pics of the standard Target exclusive, for reference. It’s a slipbox btw, not a digipak as speculated.

Same exclusive will be available in 4K, but they were nowhere to be found in the shipper just yet. Probably still in boxes.

Well shit. Target did the same with Deadpool 2.

I hope this trend doesn't follow with Ant-Man & the Wasp release

Yes all this. It's a really fun monster movie IMO, and it knows that is all it is. I don't consider it canon in my head because it ruins the whole character arc of Grant in the original movie (learning to love kids so he could pump a couple into Ellie). It's dumb fun though and much better than shit people adore like Transformers or Fast and Furious.

On Best Buy's site, they don't have the 'regular' 4K Jurassic World Collection (the non-steelbook edition). I was gonna preorder it for my husband but I guess maybe it'll show up closer to Tuesday.
If not, guess he can get it in-store Tuesday.

Their site has been crap lately. Says they don't have stuff in-store and you get there and there it is bigger than sh!t. Aggravating as F.

It would be an interesting head-to-head...Spielberg's sincerity and good will versus Cameron's machismo. Of course, in a Cameron film, the lead actress would have to grab someone by their shirt collars/shoulders and shove them against a wall or the floor and scream at them (see Terminator, Aliens, Terminator 2, Titanic, Avatar). One suspects Lindsay in The Abyss would do the same, except Bud stops her. I'm not sure that's "mature", but it's a running motif in Cameron's films. Maybe Dr. Sattler interrupts Hammond's speech about flea circuses and ice cream and slams him into a table. "Alex and Lex and Tim, John! They're out there where people are DYING!"
