Are these new individual Jurassic Park and The Lost World: Jurassic Park 4K's the same ones in the Jurassic World 5 Movie Collection 4K set?

Does the original Jurassic Park disc in the Jurassic World 5 Movie Collection 4K set have the same extras as the new 4K individual release?

If so for $23 more you get 5 movies.

Yup. They're owned by Universal - it's a home video hub for purchasing their titles. They also sell non-Universal titles, as well.

Decent, but lacking. The 4k detail is hit or miss, with some shots actually looking pretty great, while others look very DNR'd. As for HDR, it also gets the job done but leaves you wanting more. Two examples: 1) The beginning of the movie (title cards and opening nighttime scene) has noticeably bad black levels. 2) The general coloring of the movie feels sortof like a boosted DVD or Bluray rather than an actual HDR grade of a fresh, high quality scan.

Glad to say I finally got the following Jurassic movies in separate 4K releases, and all the discs look immaculate upon visual inspection (no scratches nor smudges at all)!!

Jurassic Park
The Lost World: Jurassic Park
Jurassic World
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

How does the 4K of the original Jurassic Park(1993) compare to the DVD? Is it worth the upgrade? I never got the Blu-Ray.

If you are still on DVD then yeah this will be a giant upgrade... Even if the scan used was early 4K (2008?) and so very outdated, its better than the 2K one made for DVD/HDTV era in 99 or 2000.

But will it compete with other movies from that era on 4K? Like Speed, for instance? No. It definitely is servicable, pleasing enough. I particularly love the paddock night scenes and the flashlights. But overall and certain other sequences leaves you wanting more, as was well said just above.

Do the discs in the Jurassic World 5 Movie Collection 4K set have the same extras as the new 4K individual release?

It's the same discs, just in a new package.

I would entertain a “new” version of JP which had the CGI redone up to modern standards as long as it fitted in with the old style and didn’t look out of place. I wouldn’t mind so much as its not CGI replacing practical effects (like the Star Wars SE’s), as long as the original was kept and since the CGI shots in JP1 are actually pretty minimal (CGI shots accounts for what, a couple of minutes of footage for the whole film?), you could probably do it via branching on a disc release. Will never happen of course.

Pointless, the movie is perfect as it is, the CG is excellent still, it holds up great and there's so little of it, it would be a total waste of time redoing it. None of the CG shots let the movie down at all. You can't say that about a lot of modern blockbusters.

Rewatched the original JP last night followed by The Lost World. I agree, the effects hold up really well. Is every shot in JP jaw dropping? No, but I also appreciate what special effects looked like in 95% of other films around that time looked like. I was eleven with JP opened and it will always hold a special place for me.

I sadly wasn't blown away by the 4K picture presentation of Jurassic Park. It wasn't bad by any means but it lacked the "punch" I was hoping for from a Spielberg 4K. With that said, JP has never been the most vibrantly colorful film in Spielberg's career or the JP franchise in general so perhaps my expectations were too high considering the source.

Watched Jurassic Park about two weeks ago and it's still a great film from start to finish. Watched Lost World last night for the first time in a few years and it definitely falls short of the first film, but at least the effects are still top notch. IMHO the film would have been better had it had more Pete Postlethwaite.

Part of the reason that the CGI holds up is it was used sparingly. It’s not like today where every scene in a movie is a CGI smorgasbord. They could concentrate on a few shots and really nail the look.

And what the UHD needs is much less DNR on those CG shots, for whatever reasons they've been absolutely battered with it and it just wasn't necessary. But Universal gonna Universal.

Universal? More like EW-niversal.

I tried.

I agree on many fronts, I do think it holds up really well for the most part, its only really the Gallimimus stampede and the subsequent T-Rex attack that to me doesn't hold up as well as the other stuff.
