Why do you think it was not good? That is a different statement than the fact you disliked it.

Well, it's at least sorta-related... I just made a batch pre-order at Amazon:

Claymore: Complete Series Box Set
Ran
Yojimbo (Criterion Collection)
Sanjuro (Criterion Collection)

Psyched.

Well, at the time I placed my order, no such 3-5 week disclaimer had been made, and besides that, it is now January 14th, which is a full 41 days (or 1 day short of 6 weeks) from when my order was made. I'm not so upset that its taking this long, but I am upset that they seem to be filling orders out of the order from which they were placed.

Sorry if this has already been asked but does anyone know what titles have replacement cases available? I know of The Third Man but I'm just curious what else is available...mainly The Last Emperor. I'd also maybe consider getting a matching clear plastic case for Benjamin Button if its available. Thanks in advance! I'm fairly new to the Criterion scene but I'm loving it....just got CHE yesterday and can't wait to watch it this weekend.

Go to the first page of this thread, The first post by Beta Man will answer your questions. They don't offer a clear plastic case for Benjamin Button, and as far as I know Criterion hasn't released any clear cases that will hold two discs either. At least not yet.

I wouldn't think it would be too hard to create a two disc case as the same new Criterion style. It is the same thickness as a standard DVD case, They could easily insert a flap hinged to the spine as most two disc DVD releases are.

Otherwise possible layered 2 disc system like on some of their standard 2 disc releases, but not sure about space to double them on the back inside, a flap would proabbly work better.

I am sure they have done some tests, at least you'd think the manufactuer of the cases would have. Only a matter of time before they need to use that system.

This is kind of tangental, but I did see one guy make a custom cover for the Criterion Benjamin Button BD and he had the second disc in a disc envelope because there are no 2-disc versions of the Criterion case. Well seems BD discs might not handle being in sleeves well - even small pressures, like those from disc sleeves, seem to over time leave imprints in the scratch-proof material on the bottom of the disc. Seems heat can undo the damage, but the whole thing is kind of odd and worries me slightly about BD long-term integrity.

To see a thorough explanation of the issue and what users are currently doing to test this phenomenon, take a look at https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=128389

Not to worry anyone unnecessarily, but I felt people putting Criterion discs in envelopes for Ben Button and maybe future releases would at least want to know about this.

i've got about 6 Criterion titles out of my collection that didn't come in clear plastic case.

if som1 could either scan original art or create custom, i could probably put that in regular BD cases or maybe even those really nice slim cases (to save shelf space).

Sounds like a terrible idea to me.

Sorry, there was a spider by my window.

Sleeves damaging blus?
Nothing a little acetate and a stick of butter can't fix.

That's what the acetate is for. Or do you think that won't help?

I don't know if it would help - the thought of using a chemical on my BD discs brings me no pleasure, and I'd very much like to avoid ever being in a situation where that seems the only option.

It seems the coating is malleable to a certain degree, and slowly reacts to pressures placed upon it. Using a blowdryer or heatgun while the disc is on a flat surface allows it to spread back out, but that also sounds like an unpleasant situation to be in.

So kindly ask them why they like DVD. Obviously DVD is a fad just like Blu-Ray so they are better to stick with laserdisk. No wait, better stick with VHS, err... make that Beta... etc... etc...

Really, why on earth would I want to post on a forum that regularly spouts out gems like these?

i just feel that there are some movies that blu-ray ruins, whether it be seeing actors make-up or poor special effects looking even worse. I just dont feel like every movie you watch should be as realistic looking as possible.

It seems like the people that are complaining have not actually viewed blu-rays

That whole forum sounds like a bunch of crochety old men who can't see well enough to know the Blu-Ray difference to begin with. It's funny to read until you realize they are serious.

These are probably the same sorts of people who bitterly complained when computers overtook punchcards.

Looking at the posts, it seems many are very uninformed about what Blu-ray and "HD" in general are. From some of their comments, I can kind of imagine what they believe "HD" to be, and in that light maybe some of those comments make a bit more sense. Not that they're correct - obviously not - but I can see how the uninformed might believe them to be.

There is also the matter of DVD being a very workable, agreeable solution for most - there are no big negatives in terms of ease-of-use and reliability like there were with VHS, so any upgrade from DVD is going to be a tougher sell. Factor in people with grossly incorrectly set up televisions and players, people with varying degrees of eyesight health, and just plain different opinions, and it's clear that BD will never seem attractive to everyone.

But to many people, it is very attractive. Online communities thriving, more and more niche companies jumping into the pool, and just the holiday sales numbers themselves all speak very loudly. So if some don't get it, or don't want to get it - well hey, that's their business. I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.
