I received my Critters box set from Arrow yesterday. I have only seen the first two films, but it was a very long time ago since I saw them. Looking forward to getting stuck into these over the next few days.
Enjoy, I have fond memories of those films from the VHS days, I am very tempted myself.

I would have snapped up the US box set, but I gather it's region-locked. Thankfully, Arrow have come to the rescue.

I remember watching the first film late one night on BBC - I think it could have been on the Moviedrome series back in the Alex Cox days. The second one was on good old VHS.

You have a projector and a 2.4:1 screen. Scope movies don't appear more distant for you. I don't discriminate. Ratio does not determine what movies I watch. But this problem still bothers me.

House notes, car notes, insurance, braces, eye glasses, contact lens, new tires......... A video projector and other electronics were big luxury items for us. So once a movie title was purchased it was not getting upgraded.

Give me 2.39 any day, those black side bars on 1.85 movies are a pain.

I am assuming most remember all the hoopla about the top and bottom black bars. Remember all those DVD releases that had P&S on one side and widescreen on the other?

We all have those pesky living expenses, but upgrading previously purchased movies to subsequent better editions and better formats is a central tenet of this hobby.

I mean, c'mon, how many times have we bought the same titles over and over again throughout the years for sometimes modest improvements in quality? Going from a Pan & Scan edition to an original aspect ratio widescreen edition was a major improvement that required upgrading, IMO.

I still have some of those damnable flipper DVDs as they were called. Flipper DVDs have a very high failure rate, so if you have any in your collection, you might want to check them, or, better still, upgrade them where possible.

From 1983 to 1990 only saw my family on the weekends. My full time job was at night, 1600 to 2400, daytime was mechanicing, plumbing, painting, electrician...... for myself. Did whatever someone would pay me to do as well as in customize vans, build patio decks, engineer at directional AM radio station, clean office buildings, paint..... My full time job as a public TV technical supervisor did not pay very good.

Plus in the later 90's into the 2000's we were procuring as much as we could stock in a small computer company (Apple), a relative unknown mail order outfit (Amazon) and a web browser/search software company (Google).

Canceled my Alien: Romulus 4K order on Amazon and placed an order with Orbit.

It was part of a bigger order that included:

Tank Girl BD - Limited Set from Eureka
Strange Darling 4K UK set
The Good, The Bad, The Weird 4K UK Set from Arrow

Orbit shipped them out an hour ago, so should have all of this by the weekend.

Also got my tickets for LOTR: War of the Rohiirm in Dolby Cinema opening weekend.

I stopped in a Walmart on a whim at 8:00 this morning and the guy who works in the electronics dept had Alien Romulus out already so grabbed a copy and thanked him for having it out on a release day so early since that usually never happened back in St Louis.

I got Strange Darling and Alien:Romulus 4K today.

Watership Down arrived yesterday.

These are titles I have had on pre order for a while, can tick off list now.

2025 list has started with Nosferatu (looks incredible), Wicked, and Gladiator 2, all 4K of course if available. 28 Years Later, Superman Legacy and MI8 already on list.

Damn Black Friday sales...I had no intention of upgrading my projector until lasers came into my wheelhouse... but the price point of the lamp based NP5 just came in under what I was willing to pay for a used unit... and with 2 extra bulbs...aagghhh!
