Granted, I don't think that her yelling caused this since Cooper was already nearest him, but stupid characters are stupid.

Loved JP1...just a meh 4k transfer. A few nitpicks but really great.

I did enjoy LW but Malcolm's daughter and that stupid McDonald's drive-thru "joke" really threw me off. Loved the transfer and the tension and most of the pace. Poor Eddie but that entire scene was great (sans the McD's line). Needed more Roland, too. I second the score...sweet.

JPIII is definitely a cash grab but it was a cash grab done right. Great pace, best dino cgi imo, even the kid Eric was fine (unlike his parents). A couple of dumb lines but it's my JP/W guilty pleasure. As mentioned before there's something bizarre about the transfer.

All the new movies did was get me appreciating JP3 more. It's got a more faithful aesthetic and cinematic sense than anything they've pumped out since.

Ppl bring up the raptor scene so much and it makes me laugh because it's literally supposed to be silly. The entire film has a dark comedy bent to it in the realm of stuff like Evil Dead. And it works. You got the cellphone poop pile scene, the Carnotaurus, and then the literal end of the film has a tee-hee tongue in cheek thing about it. Does it work? It sure does. Is it oddly out of place? It sure is. Is it still fun? Hell yea it is.

I went from "JP3 is the best since 1" to "it's the worst" and now finally "it's not the best but I mistakenly devalued it." I hope others feel the same.

It ain't no misunderstood classic but it's definitely misunderstood. It does feel a bit cheap, and a bit silly as you say, but gee whizz it's still a lot of fun.

Well Spielberg was clever to keep his name as director off all the silly super-dino stuff, it doesn’t work imo. I’m surprised he was happy to produce the pretty shoddy later films. They have some decent moments but it’s such a downgrade, and Spielberg used to produce absolute magic like BTTF and Gremlins. But hey, he knows how to make bank I guess.

Spielberg felt that having two adult T. rexes in Lost World was a mistake, that they cancelled each other out. And so they went about finding a new large carnivore to use for Jurassic Park III
Really? Do you have a source for this? Genuinely surprised to hear he thought that, I thought two T-Rexes was a great idea, and it gave us possibly the most disturbing kill of the series - Eddie. Still can’t believe a nice guy getting flipped like a pancake and ripped in two passed at PG in the UK.

You don't see his guts fly out or anything. It's brutal but it's quick, hence the PG (though if the 12 rating existed at the time it would've most likely got that).

It did exist, 12 came in in 1989, Lost World was 97.

Made me chuckle how Don Davis changed a few bars of musical notes on the original JP theme to make it sound new

Oops, ****ed that up. Thanks. What am I thinking of that came later? 12A?

The JP films were treated leniently because of Señor Spielbergo I guess, I do recall - and I hope this is right - that although the first JP was a PG too it came with a content advisory that’d it’d be too intense for ickle kiddies.

In general the 12A seems to have replaced PG. With both studios and censors knowing that the 12A won't exclude anyone from the audience, there doesn't seem to be much pressure to hit the PG guidelines.

If you'd told someone 25 years ago that Star Wars films, The Hobbit, Harry Potter and TV series like Doctor Who & His Dark Materials would regularly be '12' rated I think they'd be quite surprised.

Yup, 12A was introduced in 2002 after Spider-Man got slapped with a 12 and parents kicked up a fuss.

25. Brachiosaurus On The Bank (Jurassic Park 3 Complete Score) - YouTube
Thought Don Davis did a fine job with Williams' themes and maintaining the feel of Jurassic Park. Certainly better than anything Giacchino pulled out in the JW films. Honestly have not been a fan of Michael's work. He's like a John Williams if cartoon aliens pulled a Space Jam on him.

Yeah, the addition of the A to the 12 meant that merch-obsessed kiddies were no longer omitted, despite my brain-fart that's what I was thinking of re: Spielbergo getting a family-friendly PG for films that in this day and age would be a 12 quite handily if only for their level of 'threat' and 'intensity'.

There does seem to have been some favouritism towards Spielberg from the BBFC. A PG for Jaws with severed limbs and a guy getting eaten alive, screaming with blood spurting out of his mouth? Plus those first two JP’s have some nasty kills/severed limbs. I don’t think another director would have been blessed with PG’s on any of those.

They did, however, screw him on Temple Of Doon, which they cut to pieces for PG.

He's attached as producer on all kinds of stuff, like the Michael Bay Transformers movies. If he's okay with that, there's no shame in producing the later Jurassic sequels.

It's from the new Jurassic Park: The Ultimate Visual History book.

Of course, Michael Crichton should receive all credit for the idea, since it comes from his novel. Spielberg lifted it from there, and apparently later regretted it. I too was somewhat surprised to learn he felt that way, but it does explain why every sequel since has been obsessed with introducing a new "big bad" dinosaur.

I always loved the T. rex family. Seeing the nuanced, social behavior of the T. rex was interesting and it brought something new to TLW. The Spinosaurus, Indominus and Indoraptor were mainly just depicted as bloodthirsty beasts, and that gets old. Credit to Trevorrow and company: the Giganotosaurus in the latest film actually comes off as an animal instead of a supervillain. It's my favorite new carnivore in the series since the T. rex.

Davis' score for JPIII is fine, it doesn't match Williams' work on the first two movies, but it's fine. I like Giacchino's work on the JW trilogy as well. The music he wrote for the Malta sequence in Dominion is great.

Thanks to a few posts I've seen in here recently about JW being the only great one since JP I decided to finally give JW a watch and was very pleasantly surprised. I really enjoyed it. Not perfect but it's the closest to the original quality wise IMO. It's really fun, has good characters and has that same feeling and sense of awe as the original. Glad I decided to give it a shot.

I also watched Fallen Kingdom and thought it was worth a watch. It's a step down from the first JW, but to be fair, the first JW is about as grand as you can get for the concept of this series.
[Show spoiler]Ted Levine's death scene was suitably disturbing. How he cried like a little baby was unsettling.

I'm curious about Dominion but haven't heard pleasant things.

JP3 at least knew what it was, and it was fairly short, but not always sweet.

Can't say the same for the World Sequels. Those are just bitter.

It seemed "preachy" to me, but I still enjoyed the movie on the big screen. It seems like they wanted to go out with an animal rights sermon of sorts. Of course, there is no such thing as "animal rights" -- just watch some Planet Earth or other nature documentary programs. I have all the other JP movies on BR but I'm not sure I'll pony up for this one.
