My 2015 Chrysler Town & Country has two entertainment centers capable of DVD and Blu-ray display. Recently ordered a 2025 Chrysler Pacifica Panicle and it too has a entertainment center with DVD and Blu-ray. Not a feature that we really use but the upper models come equipped with these features. The dealer assured me they would gladly accept an old fashion paper check as payment.

I would have started renting titles in around 1986 shortly after I began my first job, and like yourself, I bought what I liked when they were released for sale, which was usually about a year after its rental release date. Nowadays of course practically all of my movies are bought online and delivered straight to my front door.

No idea what people are complaining about in the other part of the forum because Panic Room was a fun and I didn't spot whatever it is they are being cranky about. Great movie.

I added a couple of titles:

This upgrades my flipper DVD edition; flipper discs have a high failure rate.

This was recommended to me after I recently watched my JFK blu-ray. I remain undecided if I should upgrade that to the 4K edition from Shout!

I leave for the hospital again this morning for that lower back nerve burning procedure that I described previously. This morning greets me with a -2 degree Fahrenheit (-19 C) shock start.

Good luck with the procedure and safe travels. This winter sucks for sure.

Congrats to those in Canada for your victory last night. The 4 Nations tournament certainly was exciting and damn fun to watch.

I still have some of these flipper DVD's and from memory they were Warner titles. They had the widescreen version on one side and the 4:3 pan-and-scan on the other. I haven't played these in years, so it's possible they may have failed by now.

Best of luck at the hospital. I hope all goes well for you.

Wow that is interesting ! Thanks for the heads up !

I went and slightly updated my post on AVS and will likely have to update it again for the new release. I left there a few years ago and was getting mostly away from being online but this forum I can't really leave because I like you guys. I should get back to AVS because I do owe them just about everything. It's a fantastic resource.

I am finally home from yesterday's back procedure and I am in moderate pain, but this purchase finally arrived after having gone on an extended tour of the upper Midwest courtesy of the USPS:

Physical media is always worth taking a serious look at what is being shown. With streaming you are better off avoiding being serious about what is shown. As for only two major manufacturers can you you tell me how many make a dedicated device for streaming (for example IPTV?).

You don't need a dedicated Streaming Device just a UHD TV like Sony with Google Android Apps. I can access any Streaming Provider including AppleTV+. As for IPTV I have InfoWest with a Fiber connected STB, and can access hundreds of IP Channels including TCM for all the Classic Movies. With a Server based Digital Recorder I can record and watch any channel from any of my TV's. YouTube has a Subscription Streaming IPTV. If you look at the Hardware Forum they are having more troubles with their Players and Discs!

What do you mean with only 2 brands. Philips still sell UHD player, Magnetar, Reavon, Pennde, and GIEC all manufacture UHD players. If you are not being cheap, there are about 10 different models available out there.

Would anyone be okay with all retailers in America cease distribution of all blu-rays/dvd's at their Brick and Mortar locations, and having all of physical releases of movies/tv shows shift online? I would be okay with that as long as they do not be like what they did in Brazil for example where all the major studios have pulled out of physical media. I think buying Physical releases online would be good since I buy 100% of new physical releases of movies online anyway.

There is no increase in problems with players or with discs; it's just your spiteful and wishful thinking as usual.

The reliability of my players and my discs are orders of magnitude superior to my internet service provider and the perpetually overtaxed streaming servers. I experience issues with streamed content frequently.

None of my disc players have ever failed and my lifetime disc failure rate remains at 0.75% and most of that rate is due to laserdiscs and flipper DVDs. My internet provider and streaming services will NEVER attain anything close to 99.25% reliability.

I have been buying the lion's share of my discs online for many years already.

While I like to see stores stock physical media because it is good for the format, the absence of discs in retail stores has in no way impacted my ability to buy what I want.

You need to stick to your simple built-in TV SDR streaming. I can assure you headaches await you if you ever decide to upgrade to HDR and immersive audio. And don’t be surprised when you get an email from streaming providers informing you that your device will no longer be supported after a certain date. Easy to get around this problem with an external box but they will have their warts as well.

As of now my streaming devices:
  • Apple TV4K 2nd gen
  • Apple TV4K 3nd gen (this one has Apple Developer HUD installed via Apple Xcode on Mac Mini).
  • FireTV Cube
  • LG Smart TV
  • Nvidia Shield Pro (2019)
  • Roku Express
  • Roku Ultra
  • TCL Smart TV (Roku)
  • Vizio Smart TV
