Mmmm. Sophie. I also really like Catherine McCormack's Murron quite a bit as well.

I have watched Star Trek in every home video incarnation there is (with the sole exception of CED VideoDisc) and the BDs are easily the best the TREK films have looked. Is there DNR? Yes. Does it damage the integrity of the image? With the exception of The Undiscovered Country, no. Even then , the contrast for that film is what bothers me. They used the same values as the previous transfer: Star Trek VI theatrically is a dark film. The home video versions are way too bright. The ships have beautiful lighting theatrically, they are flat on video. Spock's quarters (when he shares the drink with Valeris) is supposed to be lit by candlelight. Not on video.

I'm gonna buy this movie either way, no doubt about it, but am I going to notice these things to the extent that people are complaining about?

P.S. I'm just your average joe movie lover who thinks bluray looks a ton better than any dvd. If it does that, I'm usually happy.
Usually 42" and above, where a good DVD upscaled starts to fall apart.

Aha! Paramount outed it on the $10 rebate form and it is indeed coming...

It's A Wonderful Life will hit Blu-ray Disc on November 3rd. Sadly, nothing new on the BD, just carry overs from the DVD release including both the black&white original presentation and the colorized new presentation.

Braveheart verses Gladiator, hmmmmm.... I think it all comes down to one thing:

Who looks better in a skirt? Russell Crowe or Mel Gibson????

I say Russell Crowe. My goodness! Look at Mel:

Yuck. Jeepers! He looks like a Halloween drag queen!

Nah, it's an edge look but I think Mel pulls it off well.

Any predictions on which titles Paramount will have in their "Sapphire Special Edition" Blu-ray collection?

Titanic and American Beauty are the next rumored Sapphire Series titles before the end of the year.

To be released by the end of the year? That's cool if so. I'd buy both of those for sure.

Chinatown, Apocalypse Now are likely candidates. Maybe Godfather 1 and 2 when they get their separate releases.

Thanks!

I keep forgetting all the A list titles they have. I would buy both of those as well of course. I hope all the studios start pushing out their A list catalog titles this year and next.

I'll take that one and that one. I hope you're both right.

I remember Apocalypse Now being rumored for 2009 by the Bits. I'd probably take Titanic too, if only to keep my wife happy.

Titanic is a huge possibiity because Avatar is coming to theaters. Since Titanic was the last film James Cameron worked on befor Avatar, it makes sense for Fox to work with Paramount to promote Titanic.

Purchasing Braveheart, and if I can, renting Gladiator. If not, I'll buy it for a low price around Black Friday.

Well, looks like I'll be getting just Braveheart. I don't sit too close to my tv, so my Extended DVD of Gladiator comes off as sort of pseudo-HD. It's light on Edge Enhancement as well - which is more than I can say for the BD (based on screencaps).

Braveheart on the other hand, I'm looking forward to very much. The 2007 dvd had beautiful colors, but it definitely is lacking in the detail department and doesn't come close to HD. The BD screencaps for this one are making me very eager for next Tuesday.

Yeah.. because screencaps are totally the same as seeing it on your TV.

Wow, seriously? Did you just drop in from the AVS forums or what?
