I love the one for Fantasia, though I think the Pastoral Symphony is given a little too much prominence. It'd be perfect if the cupids were replaced by the Ave Maria procession, and if either Bacchus or the pegasus were replaced by the T-Rex from Rite of Spring. The Fantasia 2000 one looks good, but I'm hoping they'll redo it to better match the original's new cover. The use of stock photos with the new Sorcerer Mickey airbrushed image is a bit jarring.

And I used to care about what label Disney gave their collections...up until around 2005 or so. The Platinums/Diamonds may be considered the most prestigious titles in Disney's library and as such, they probably go a little out of their way to make these releases special, but that doesn't mean titles outside those collections can't be strong. Fantasia, Alice in Wonderland, Pocahontas, and every film from Mulan to Lilo & Stitch has received two-disc DVD sets that rival some of the Platinums (most notably Peter Pan, which was rushed to coincide with the first Tinker Bell film, and that film ended up getting postponed, anyway).

The Platinums started out as groundbreaking and immersive, and as they progressed, they started becoming more and more generic. I won't be surprised if that happens to the Diamonds, too. Snow White and (by the looks of it) Beauty and the Beast are phenomenal releases, but let's see how long it takes before the collection releases titles that satisfy but don't push the envelope of the format. As we long as get excellent video and sound and a strong collection of extras, I won't complain nor do I care what edition titles they're given.

I got in touch with Disney entertainment, and this what they replied with;

"Thank you for contacting Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment.

The releases will be:

Fantasia Platinum Edition Double Play Blu ray Packaging

Fantasia Platinum Edition Double Play DVD Packaging

Fantasia / Fantasia 2000 Blu-ray Double Pack

I hope this information helps you in the anticipation of the releases.

Kind regards

Kathie"

I'm not sure why she said Platinum edition since the Diamonds have superseded them... Generally, I still believe that the individual releases will be 'Special Editions' and the combo pack will be a Diamond Edition.

As to the purpose of the titles, it probably is all marketing. They're not going to skimp on extras just because the title isn't as flashy as a Diamond, so lets just hope for the best

Interesting. So it looks like 2000 won't get its own release.

It would explain too why F2K isn't listed on Amazon alongside the original

Yami - Sorry I was referring to 'Disney BD Live', which isn't available here

The regions I imagine will make a big difference to the type of release. From what I can see (based on the response I got from Disney), we'll see the Blu-Ray and DVD packaged releases, as well as this 'combo' pack. I'm not very hopeful the extras will be on a separate disc if its a '4-disc' combo pack. The film is going to take enough room on one disc as it is!

I think the whole DOUBLE PLAY is confusing and well not needed. Nothing wrong with how they were doing it just stating BD and DVD copy. Simple enough. Double Pay sounds like a double sided disc. Also It takes up way too much cover space. Although this may just be for retail / advertising reasons.

The cover for FANTASIA is nice, but the Two Movie Pack is well...blah?

I'll be buying the double feature but I really don't like that box art. The single release is gorgeous.

The single edition cover is surely real, but the combo pack must be just a placeholder. Look at the font, its wrong

Not just the font, the second movie's title.

Negative. Almost everything about the new cover can be found in the other two posted earlier. Sorcerer Mickey's from the Fantasia 2000 cover while Zeus, the hippo, the alligator, and the satyrs are from the first film's cover. Only the baby pegasus, fish, flower petals, and Chernabog are new. The mushrooms look like a mix between new clipart and what we saw on the other cover. So this means:

A) The older Fantasia cover was a mock up/work-in-progress (Disney does these all the time)

B) The older Fantasia cover is the US one while this is the UK one (Disney often does different covers for different regions)

C) The older Fantasia covers were fan art that Disney loved so much, they stole elements from them (Umm...)

Either way, I love both covers that have been shown for the first film (I definitely think the box set and possibly the Fantasia 2000 covers aren't finalized). Between the two of those, I have to admit I like the new UK one more. The Pastoral Symphony isn't as overly prominent, and other segments not on the first cover are given coverage here. Both are gorgeous, however.

Yes, indeed, I also thought it was a fanart, Disney never reuses their illustrations, sometimes not even their logos, also the "special edition" part on the top of the cover looks sooo fake.
About the platinum part, it looks like is just the way that web calls it, cause in the cover doesn't say anything.

Maybe Fantasia 2010 is a new version with Destino included =P

That would be Balls to the Wall as it would keep Walt's ambition alive. And Fantasia 2000 needs an infusion of confusion, as the release was way too safe and toddler friendly. Throw in some Destino, Lorenzo, Little Match Girl, One By One -- you've got a rival to the original, my friends.
