Honestly the runs are voice matched pretty closely to each other that I'd be getting the focus 160s mostly for musical improvements

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2. Magical theatre sound by Dynaudio

James Mather, Supervising Sound Editor, relies on studio monitors from Dynaudio for the final "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2"

The final chapter of one of the most successful movie series of all times, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2", has been released on July 15th. The magical theatre sound has been mixed by supervising sound editor James Mather, who always relies on Dynaudio Air monitor speakers.

"For me, Air 6 monitor from Dynaudio has emerged as the perfect studio monitor. It is really applicable for all critical area: noises, dialogue, sound design", Mather clarifies in an interview.

well I got a little treat today, got to hear 2 speakers I have not heard before.

Dynaudio Contour S1.4 - Very good bookshelf speaker, it was similar to the Excite tonally, however the mid-range was superior and the bass was deep. I think I love the Contour S1.4, even tho the S3.4s didn't do much for me. The way they imaged and built a soundstage was phenominal. My dealer had Celine Dion playing on a blu-ray in stereo on these speakers, and Celine's voice was so natural and had a ton of range. Im not typically a Celine fan, but this blu-ray and the sound made me want the disc.

Dynaudio DM 3/7 - These spekaers had a little better bass, it went deeper, but not quite as tight as the S1.4s. The lower treble was a touch hotter sounding then the Contours. The tweeter wasn't as sweet sounding, but mostly IMO because it ran hot. The tweeter on my Excites offer better resolution, and a sweeter, silkier sound. The mid-range on the Excites and Contours is better, obviously tho. I was also listening to Celine Dion on these speakers. I always wondered, should I have got the 3/7s over the X16s, and now I know that I got the right speakers. That said, the DM3/7s definetly are one of the better $2k tower speakers I have heard.

I must have missed your write-up of the 3.4s. How do you feel the 1.4s differed?

Kind of exactly what i felt of the 3/7 Steve, Better highs certainly from the X32 and tighter bass also altho the bass output was great from the bigger drivers on the DM 3/7 it did not feel as accurate X32.

As for one of the better towers you heard at 2K I am sur the Sttaf are part of this group for different reasons obviously.

I'd have to hear the sttafs again, the excites x16s offer a little better mids and sweeter highs, and pretty much the same bass. The dms probably give up a little to the sttafs, but not in the bass, that's for sure

I remember the 3.4s being extremely linear and laidback in the highs where I thought they were a little boring. Id like to hear them again tho, cause the, the 1.4s seemed laidback also but more fun and dynamic for a bookshelf. Like I said is like to hear the 3.4s again, I heard them up against the C1s which I liked a lot better. Perhaps when I hear them again ill have a different perspective, I only heard them for a song, where I had much more time with the 1.4s. Could have been the song too. The contours and excites sound similar.

This pretty much summerize what i had wrote, I love the DM for thier superb musicality and not just power and also they can fill a rather large room with the dual 6.7 woofer gives them a great asset but in terms of detail resution in the highs and mid the Sttaf cerftainly edge them.

The DM 3/7 is in my top 3 in the 2K range, in fact in second place, I really enjoyed the Ikons too.

Steve Have you heard the Ovator from Naim? Not my taste personally although they are very good I feel they lack some personality, . They felt more than boring paired with a Naim XS. honestly felt the complete oppositge when i heard the C1 sig. in the room across the hallway. Rhett told me the same thing when he actually saw I took a picture of them he asked what I thaught of them.

My fav Dyn so far is the C1 II Sig. I wish i could hear the Spphires.

I have not heard the Ovators.

I would say, if you listen to the DM3/7s, that hotness in the lower treble / upper mid-range is there in the Sapphires also. I assume that is the same sound many talk about in the Special 25s also. However the soundstage and everything else on the Sapphires is much better then the 3/7s(obviously). The 3/7s sounded louder at -24 then the S1.4s at -17 on the volume control.

Andrew I like their mids and highs although I wish they would help the low end as much as they do for highs an mids but man their is just no comparaison with what I had I really like them. I just can't wait for XLO to come up with their new line of Ultra but As I mentionned to you once I think I may just move up the KImber line and buy the Hero in 1m.

I will highly consider this very soon as the XLO rep has been promissing this new XLO Ultra for almost 3 months now and been waiting since. To get Kimbers instead I would have to go to the Dyn dealer where I heard the X32.

Listened to the new Focus 260s today at my dealer. They were very nice speakers. The sound was typical Dynaudio, neutral, linear, and balanced. The bass was tight and fast. The mid-range was incredible, there was so much resolution in the mids it about knocked me out. Listening to Rachmaninov piano Concerto, the detail of the piano play was phenominal. The concerto was a full orchestra, and when the people blew on their flutes you could hear the wind come out of their mouths and into the flutes like someone was next to you playing the flute. The Violins would come subtlely and forcefully depending on the recording of course, but the way each one happened was beyond reproach at the price point these come in at. Listening to Radiohead, you could hear the soundstage laid out so precisely. The guitar out beyond the speaker one left the other guitar just inside the speaker, the keyboard on the right of the singer whos also playing an acoustic guitar. Then the bass player out even wider to the outside of the right speaker, the drummer back behind the singer. and the texture of the drums were so accurate. Stevie Ray Vaughn.... what can I say. It sounded like I was sitting in front of a blues player singing and listening to them play. You could make out all the snare work, and the kick drum sounded so tight and deep, the guitar picks were amazing. I listened to Phantom of the Opera, the same one I heard when I auditioned the Sapphires. It sounded so close to that same presentation on the Focus 260s as it did on the Sapphires. All in all, the presentation was very very close to that of the Contours. And the Gloss White was beautiful. OH, and the cabinet is smaller then that of the older Focus it seemed. Not a lot, but a little. I really liked this speaker. A LOT.

Nope, Excites are not going anywhere. Im gonna audition the Musical Fidelity M3i Integrated Amp and probably a Creek Evolution 2 Int Amp. Im really thinking that I might get the MF Int Amp and then add the MF V-DAC MKII and V-LPS phono preamp. Ill audition the MF IA monday morning.

however with the Creek, I can get the Phono Preamp installed in the IA for $80, its a MM phono only. And then grab a DAC.

The last thing is that if I don't like any of them, then Ill get a Naim Nait 5i Int Amp.

Id like to buy an Oppo 93 and a new TV, but I think after the IA, Phono preamp, and DAC, Ill leave well enough alone on components. I might add a Shunyata Venom power cable or two, some nice ICs, but that will be all from here to 2013. I was contemplating what would give me the biggest upgrade in overall quality and I was thinking an Oppo and surrounds, but then I listen to music everyday. And most quality IA's will perform better then my Integra for music. So to make better use of my CDs and Vinyl I figure the best upgrade will be in the music department.
