Great point on both issues

Love the photos........ I feel when I look at them (all fuzzy). Your new unit dwarfs the older Sony . I guess your next upgrade will be a camera huh ?

Sorry it's taking so long. I always take too many pictures and delete the bad ones, then my internet disconnected while I was trying to upload the pics, then it wouldn't let me upload cause I had too many folders, but I'll have them in here in just a minute or three.

Sorry, the only camera I have is my crappy cellphone. It actually does okay in a brightly lit room, but it's very dark in my HT room, even with all of the lights on. I should've taken most of them in my kitchen under my fluorescent light, but I didn't.

This thing makes my Sony feel like a toy. The shelf where I put my receiver is 14" deep. The Sony fit in there with room to spare, but the Onkyo is about 16" deep, so it sticks out a couple of inches. The way it's making me feel, I'm sticking out a couple of inches too!

When are you going to run Audyssey?

I'm going to go turn everything on, and try to figure this thing out a little. I'm going to try to make sure that all of the A/V bells and whistles are turned off, then try to figure out how to run Audyssey the 'proper' way. I don't want to waste my time on the 'quick' calibration. I have a short cymbal stand tripod that the mic will thread onto. Hopefully that will work. I'll probably sit the stand on a folded up blanket, or some foam pieces to try to decouple it from the floor so I will get more accurate LFE readings.

After I get it figured out a bit, then take a shower and fix something to eat, I'll check back in.

Place the tripod right where you sit on the couch so the mic is pointing straight up at the same height as your ears if you can.

Yeah, I've studied the crap out of Audyssey over the last several days, plus I'm very OCD about stuff like this. I got all the way done with 7 out of the 8 measurements, but while I was repositioning the mic for the last one, my redneck neighbor pulled up in his loud-ass redneck truck, slammed the hell out of his redneck truck door, then started hollerin' with his redneck friend. I just now heard him slam his redneck truck tailgate. I was probably within one minute of being done.

Can I leave it where it is now for a little while, until he goes away? It says to move the mic to the 8th position and press enter. Will it eventually quit, or can I leave it waiting? Anyone know?

Well, it's time to get the brain working, you have a lot to learn about this beast, but you have plenty of people to help ya out.

Some of the most important things with running audyessy is having proper placement with the mic and no other noise going on in the room.

As much as I thought I knew about audyessy, I had audio issues with my Onkyo 5008 with mic placement. Big Daddy had to point it out for me.

Your about to be schooooled!!!!

That was close. I don't know if there is a timer or not. It looks like you might be the first to tell us.

My post before this one seems like it was a waste, I didn't know you already studied for this one.

You can stop at 7. The 8 position won't make that much difference.

Whaaat!!!!

I'm surprised that you would say that. If he can wait it out, I really believe he should get all 8.

I have done many a calibration with after measurements (comparing 7 to 8 positions) it won't make that big of a difference. Just hit calculate after 7.

Thanks to everybody!!

Sorry for not quoting everyone, and responding individually, but I've been busy. The rednecks went inside for a minute, so I thought I would chance it, and I got it finished.

I do have a few questions. When I first plugged in the mic, it said to adjust the subwoofer level to 75 db(I think). It showed me a readout of where it was at(I think it was actually around 80). Well, I have two different subwoofers that I have balanced by ear(I know, I know), and I just left them where they already were. Is this really bad? Is it going to corrupt the entire calibration that I just did? Also, since it gives me a readout as to what db level the sub is at, could I use that like an SPL meter, and unplug one sub, set the level on the other one, then unplug the one I adjusted and do the same on the other one? I would assume that if that would work, I would probably adjust each one seperately to 72db? Is that right? If both are at 72db, then both together should be about 75db, right?

Thanks again everyone.
