I am just speculating, but I would say that the fourth disc is for the 3D file since it would be too big to fit on one BD-50 and they broke it up into two-disc. I would think that the special features would be in 2d and not 3d.

Yes The Best Buy Branded Exclusive version of The Hobbit will have Gollum on the cover instead of Bilbo Baggins.

I was also wondering this too. Why is there a fifth disc when this should be a 4 disc set?

Sorry to sidetrack, but is there any confirmation of the 3D version being lenticular? I was torn between the 3D version and the Best Buy version.

if this is true (confirmed as a lenticular that is by BB) that's my double dip version. i already pre-ordered the walmart digibook because i wanted that Gandalf 3D Collectible Card!

i do want the l'll give the BB blu-ray movie disc to my daughter, i just want the case. again, if it's a lenticular, i'm all over it!

i am surprised that no one stateside is doing a steelbook for this. having said that, the 64 page digibook is gonna be sweet!

I may be changing my mind on the Target one... the Thorin 3D card from Walmart are they out on the shelves now for pre order or was it a one day thing? I looked on their site and don't see them but I could get the digibook version of the Blu Ray if I can get the Thorin card instead of Targets.

I can't say with 99.9% positivity that they should be out...but they should be out. I saw them the other day and I don't think I just hapened to be there on the one day they had them. I'm actually about to head over to Wally World after I eat more pancakes at Walmart. I'm sure they'll still be available

I requested 4/3 as a day off (yeah, a Wednesday) to watch this movie at home in total peace. My wife has to be with her mother at an appointment that day and my son will be at school. Hopefully, ZERO interruptions . Obviosuly, I'll be buying day one, but holding on to viewing it until April 3 .

Yes, they should be located by the new release blus at your store, most likely. They should still be out on the floor till March 19th, but the preorder doesn't allow to pick it up in stores, and it is shipped to your house. So, if you want it to have a chance for it to be at your house on release day, you have to redeem the code that comes with the card by March 11th. And on March 12th you will get the Vudu DC of the hobbit to watch. Obviously, access to the exclusives content only on Vudu immediately after purchase.
