Looking forward to getting this game & also digging into all the free physical stuff it comes with.
Places in high-crime neighborhoods would be more likely to have this policy I figure. That store must have a lot of thefts so they needed to do something to curb that.

In my store, they keep all the brand-new sealed games behind the counter, in a glass case. They leave an empty case out on the shelf for you to grab if you want, but mostly people know what they want to buy and just have to ask for it. Then they'll pull out a brand new unopened game for you.

That's how they do it at all the stores I visited but that empty case on the shelf represents the last copy which they sell to some poor soul at full price. They tried to pull that with me a few times and I laughed at them. Many times that last copy was passed around to employees before being sold as new. I only go there as a very last resort.

I hate having to buy from them.
I used to be a manager for Electronics Boutique a LONG time ago. I worked for them for almsot 10 years. Back when they were a family owned and operated company, they were awesome to work for. Once they went public, everything changed and they started doing things to try and please the shareholders instead of the customers. That's when I had had enough and quit. Not long after that they were bought out by Babbages.

I bought my Mortal Kombat game at Target. So easy. Tell them I want the game they take it out of the case and ring it up and I'm on my way. No fuss no muss. I know when I go to pick up my pre-order Witcher I'm going to get harassed again about buying the season pass and upgrading my rewards card because of blah blah blah. And whatever else they want to throw at me.

I did go ahead and order the more expensive collectors edition hard cover strategy guide for Witcher. I normally wouldn't do that. All I generally care about is having the info I need on hand for when I need it on the fly while I'm playing. But from everything I've seen and read about this game it seems like the game is going to be something special. So I decided to splurge and get the more expensive guide for it.

I know some people may be against using the guides. But I only use them when I'm stuck and need the help getting through a tough spot I'm having trouble with. And for general info about things in the game I wouldn't otherwise know about. Or how to do. Especially for a game like this that is so huge and there is so much to it.

The only guides I have in the past was for the fallouts and elder scrolls. I bought the collectors editions mainly for the art work. Only after a play through will I skim through the quests in the guide.

I got the Collector's guide on order through Amazon. I'm hoping it's good. I like the artwork too.

We actually still have a few EB game stores around but they are now modelled the same as GameStops. When it was called Electronic's Boutique, that store was awesome. GS & EB are a joke now in comparison.

With my experience it depends on the exact location of the GameStop. Yes I was told in the states that they keep 1 copy aside for display. Maybe so. Some GameStops do not have a glass cabinet behind them to store anything. Their games are in the center of the store in cd sleeves in drawers.

Regardless of any GameStop anywhere, if you buy a game at full price & the shrink wrap is off, you just bought a used game IMO.

I never played the fallout games so don''t really know but I cans understand needing a guide for an elder scrolls game.

I get frustrated and bored fairly quickly when I can't figure out what I'm supposed to be doing. So when I get to a place like that I like to be able to just look it up and get through the troublesome spot. I usually don't have a lot of time for playing and I don't like burning up limited time being frustrated and bored on one specific task I can't figure out. I do spend a period of time trying to figure it out on my own, but once I get sick of it I look it up so I can just get through it and move on to something else so I can continue on to something else.

There is a lot of info aside from the walk throughs on the quests though.

Whether I end up needing the guide much or not. I like knowing I have all the info about the game I need if I need it sitting next to me in a book.

I know there is the computer to look things up if I need to. But that feels inconvenient to me compared to having the book with all the info right there next to me. I don't keep my computer on twenty four seven and sitting turned on next to me while I'm playing.

I've not gotten one without the wrapping. Yes, if they handed me something like that I would be like WTF. I wouldn't accept it. I'd get my money back and get it somewhere else.

So far when I've picked up my games on release day they have had them behind the counter.

The irony. To spend hours and hours farming in a game not about actual farming only to purchase a game about actual farming and not likely farming in it at all.

Just in case a game comes out that doesn't include farming, I'm all set.

Reviews are glowing, Gamespot giving it one of their very few 10/10, and IGN a 9.3/10.

Gametrailers: 9.8
Gameinformer: 9.75

The lowest score so far is an 8, but the vast majority are 9s and 10s, with a current Metacritic at 93.

Interestingly, all the reviews are on PS4 so far (it's the one version CDPR sent for reviewing on debug PS4 stations), but many outlets also noticed the framerate problems (dipping often under 30 when in heavy load), which may or may not end up being adressed in a day 1 patch.

Many wonder why the PC version was not given priority, or even the XB1 (with the MS co-marketing agreement), and fear there may be possibly even worse problems in wait of a patch.

They've already confirmed a day 1 patch I believe. I can see some of these issues being fixed in that.

Only a week left

Trying to decide on whether to pull the trigger on a pre-order to get the $10 certificate from Best Buy.

I just started Dragon Age: Inquisition, and am getting Project CARS in the mail today, so it'll probably be a month before I can even start The Witcher.

How long do y'all think it'll be before it's on sale for $40?
