Yeah, I'm curious as to what you find. I'd find that if I did it my wife would take a stick to me, so it stays where it's at. Sounds terrific anyway. I watched some of "Akira" last night on BD with it's 192kbps audio TrueHD bitrate and was BLOWN AWAY by it. Not as much in the bass department but what was there was a big improvement over the DVD.

I shall report back promptly on this - Actually I should've done it yesterday as I've been toying with the idea for a few days, but didn't. Might have made INDY 4 sound different, on the plus side if anything I'm sure. I'll try to raise it up tonite or tomorrow, tho' I'm NOT looking forward to lifting that 55lb. Behemoth up, or IF I'll have enough Slack with the short plug: it's "just" enough now to reach the outlet.

That's the only short coming that I've found so far. It really needs a longer power cord. A longer one would require better heavy duty 14 to 12 gauge construction. I wish they could have made it with a removable power cord. That way if we had to go farther to the outlet, then we could replace it with a longer, better one.

Good point. Well, luckily I had enough still after I raised up the Sub onto the Milk crate (about 10" high, then the SubDude & PA-120 on top). I haven't had time to watch a Blu' with it raised up yet, but just with certain TV shows I can tell; it Does sound a bit better/punchier up there as I thought it would. Why? Prob. becuz' Now the Woofer is about 15" off the floor, making it even closer to ear level, than when it was just 3" high with the SubDude. So i'm able to hear the bass tones that much clearer. Placebo? Naahhh. I'll "try" to see if I can find some time to watch a Bluray tomorrow where I'll REALLY be able to tell for sure - but with the Patriots game at 1pm, then a good game at 4pm, & another good one at nite, I don't know if or when I'll be able to squeeze something in!!

Interesting. Isn't it because the bass is less boomy and not so muffled making it clear and distinct? Bass below 80 Hz or so is non directional and having the sub at ear level shouldn't matter. Of course, if it's the height that's making the bass tighter, then that's pretty cool. I'm interested in what the movies sound like with the subwoofers so high off the floor.

Well, it wasn't Boomy or Muffled when it was lower. It sounded fine to me. I think having subs a bit higher off the ground has something to do with making them sound tighter or more punchier.

Default PA-120 raised up

Getting ready to watch a Bluray (soon as the Patriots game ends), & will report back if I believe the Sub at 14" off the ground vice 3", has any discernable difference.

** EDIT: Going to watch "KING KONG" **

That's good to know. Is the height of yours measured from the bottom or from the subwoofer cone itself? I'll wait until I hear more results from you. I may raise mine to same height as yours. I'm not getting boomy or muffled bass. If raising it 14 in helps make them sound tighter and punchier, that'll be worth it.

I measured from the floor to the bottom of the Sub, so the cone is prob. a few more inches up or so.

I think it has more to do with the sub frequencies that interact with the floor as to a reason to raise it up. By doing so, it might help to eliminate any standing waves that can be created underneath the sub. However, I am sure you know that what works for one person very well may not work for another. Good luck both!

Wow, I love how when KONG grunts or groans or just breathes Heavy, you can Feel the Low frequencies in the movie. The Brontasaurus herd chase scene thru the valley where the cast is Literally being run over & around, with somehow Hardly being trampled, was a Thorough Sub workout. Then, when they all tumbled on top of each other, and around the edge of the cliff as it broke apart & some went Over the edge to their deaths, was pretty intense also. Great LFE in this movie & I'm watching the Extended Cut version (3hrs 20mins, as opposed to 3hrs 8mins.), so I've already watched a couple scenes I don't recall in the originial.

Again, Excellent AUDIO thru-out, not Just LFE (which IS great) but surround are also getting some nice low frequency use as well. Superb DTS-HD MA, precise detailed clarity & seperation from across the front sound-stage & rear for that matter.

Wow, the 3 T-Rex's vs KONG fight scene was Awesome!!

Default KING KONG - Final Review / Raised PA-120

Final Review: Well, I finished the (LONG!!) movie just a bit after 8pm, & the old-school dogfight scene with the bi-planes trying to shoot KONG down off the Empire State Bldg. was incredible as well. EXCELLENT Audio, great seperation. This is one Reference Quality Bluray for Video & Audio IMO.

As for the SUB raised up, it's hard to be 100% sure as this is my 1st Bluray with the added height, but Great LFE thru-out (I took off the grill so I could watch the Woofer during the nice Bass-heavy scenes. That was very cool!). So I'll prob. have to watch a few more movies or reference scenes to get a better gauge of the added height & how it affects what I hear.

Though the "Extended" Director's Cut was a bit dragged out mainly at the end (we get it Peter Jackson: It's a "Love Story" somewhat, but gesh---ENOUGH of the long drawn out gazing looks of Naomi Watts' character "Ann Darrow" into Kongs' eyes & vice versa), overall I like this version over the Theatrical Cut. There were at least 2-3 more Action Sequences that were very cool.

Any new PA-120 Sub owners out there? Or anyone experimenting with Risers to determine if it sounds better "raised up" a bit vice low to the floor, or on the floor? (see above)

If a sub is sitting directly on the floor, it will cause standing waves underneath it? Does that mean standing waves can be generated in the floor itself? But if you raise the sub doesn't that merely shift the standing waves to another plane of interaction?

Yep, I never get tired of my KK BD. It is indeed a showpiece for video and sound reference quality. The sauropod stampede down the canyon was quite intense and produced a lot of low frequency rumble in my house from both subs. What didn't make sense in that scene was why would the raptors, after having a canyon full of meat from the fallen sauropods, go after and devour the poor old camera man? That's Hollywood. The tyrannosaur scene was realistic though especially the way 3 (females?) tried cornering Ann and Kong on the frontal assault while a fourth (male?) tyrannosaur attacked from the rear. Raptors hunt like wolves and tyrannosaurs hunt like lions. Cool. I didn't care much for the tyrannosaurs swinging on the vines though. That was dumb but dramatic I suppose. When all those beasts hit the ground my body was pounded by pressure waves that I could feel.

Well, it IS "King Kong" so you really can't say "this didn't make Sense" as to me, Any type of movie like this will always take liberties for dramatic purpose x 100! - but yes, the "extended" cut is definitely better of the 2 versions, for those 2 or 3 extra action sequences. The Lagoon one was pretty sweet.

Check out my Review of this movie from last nite (post# 7333). Didn't have my volume Too loud as I started it at 8pm Wed. nite & at 9pm I turned it down from -20 to -22 (neighbor is cool so I want to keep it that way)
But yes, Great DTS-HD MA Audio, Great LFE thru-out, especially as noted below, the last 40+ minutes were very Sweet indeed!

Did you notice the LFE in your Fronts AND Surrounds at times? I did. Not Overly so, but just in a few instances. Lmao--How LOUD did you have it? Was the family gone or somethin'? Another couple Excellent Blurays for Bass are HELLBOY II & MAX PAYNE (<---this movie has almost Constant LFE thru-out. Very nice!!)
