Why would you rebuy them? 90% of my collection is DVD and only 25% of that I would ever consider replacing in Blu. And even then only if the Blu was $5.00 or less.

That's like saying....."Don't eat at a good restaurant because the meal will cost you $30-50. Eat at McDonald's instead because the meal is only $5."

In your case, you'd rather eat at McDonald's everyday instead of eating at a nice restaurant occasionally.

No... In my case it would be eat at McDonalds 75% of the time (buy DVDs) and eat out at a nice place the other 25% of the time when you really want something over the top (buy Blus). No need to eat at a fancy restaurant every day when McDonalds is just fine. In other words, not every film I own needs to be replaced with Blu. Were not talking VHS quality here were talkng DVDs. The quality is just fine. But on occasion if the price is right or it's a title that I really enjoy then sure, I'll pay a little more to upgrade. What strange analogies we are using. HA!

I guess I'm crazy too because having went blu...I can't go back. I don't have a big collection, but I'm proud of it (save for one movie anyway). When I upgrade my dvds to blu, I donate the dvds to those that don't have much money right now and people who still don't have blu ray tech.

Just to add, when I play dvds on my blu ray player they all look like crap, so yeah. I can't watch my dvds on my hdtv anymore. But hey, I'm not complaining...just waiting for the movies I love to finally get the blu treatment.

But like I said in the beginning (for me at least), once you go blu you can't go back.

I watched a dvd tonight for the first time ever since I got into blu-ray about a year ago. I enjoyed the movie, but I was just appalled at the weak, lifeless image quality. I'm replacing dvd with blu whenever possible!

Yeah, with a good TV it's impossible to go back to standard-def, eh?

I'm willing to bet that once you get your HDTV and you see how bad DVD's look, you will upgrade everything to Blu.

I got into HD DVD in 2007 and then into BD in 2008. After I had watched a couple hundred titles in 1080p I tried watching SD programming and DVDs and it is rather difficult because my eyes are spoiled. I do find though that my A2 and A20 make my DVDs look as best as they can when compared to the other players that I own.

Ive seen many of movies on an HDTV. They look amazing, but I was perfectly fine with all the DVDs I saw on the HDTV as well. So for my favorite titles or films that truly benefit from HD like "300" or "Avatar" sure. But will I be replacing "Shallow Hal" or "The Brave Little Toaster"? Wouldn't count on it. Don't get me wrong here. Blu-ray is by far the best format out there. And given the choise I'll always take Blu. For instance I've had the opportunity to get "Avatar" on DVD for $5.00 but I'm holding out for the Blu because I know it will be worth it. And any titles to be released in the future to highly benefit from Blu I will also hold out on. But did I need "G.I. Joe" on Blu? No, the DVD will do just fine.

What I'm saying is that once you purchase a HDTV all your VHS and DVD's will not look all that great. Especially on a 52" like you want.

With all the hype and all, I'll probably get shot for this, but I wouldn't recommend buying "Avatar" on any format. A rental or better yet, borrowing it from a friend will suffice.

I rented GI Joe, by the way. So so movie, but a marvelous looking Blu-ray!

Holy crap, how does a guy with a library as massive as you not have an HDTV already? I would imagine money isn't a factor.
