I watched my first movie tonight with my new subwoofer added to the mix. I chose the extended cut of the first movie from
![]() I am not done experimenting with settings and placement yet, but I sure had a grand time of it tonight. I should have got one of these subs sooner. You just don't know what you are missing until you finally do. ![]() |

(Or perhaps was the suggestion to have the L&R set to Small directed specifically at Vilya due to his comments of having an overall small-ish viewing room?) Thanks. |

I have my crossovers set to 100 Hz even tho I have 300 watts available to the left and 300 watts available to the right speaker. The center speaker has > 200 watts available. If you set your speakers to Large then something like Audyssey may set the crossover to 55 Hz. The program only looks for response. AFAIK none actually checks for distortion (harmonic, IM, etc.). Loudspeaker and phono cartridge distortion data has been, is and probably continue to be as scarce as hen's teeth. ![]() |

I can't actually time travel but I can do things the old fashioned way sometimes.
Like owning videos. Now, some will suggest you don't own movies I understand this but I can own a Blu Ray and it will most likely last me the duration of my life. Similar to CDs they were marketed with a last a lifetime notion. Marketplaces are changing and greed is driving a lot of the change. I could own a copy of Severance on DVD or I could pay by the minute for access to it on ATV+. Thankfully I'm kind of tired of the show already. Some folks are familiar with bait and switch and that's not a concept that will go away. iTunes movies you "own" for $4.99 come with terms that can and do change regularly. I can't keep up with changes and there are some I don't actually approve of. Thankfully I can still make some choices and that's why I buy movies on disc. Yes, I subscribe to services and even occasionally buy an iTunes movie but this is so that I can give my kids access to the content they would otherwise only have at home. I consider it easy come easy go I put no faith in it. Greed is taking over everything and art is becoming something that is expensive to have control over. Physical media may go away .... that would be bad but I thankfully have a lot of it and if that were to happen I would just have a lot more money so there is a silver lining. Things perpetually change and I'm glad I was on the right side of history for most of it. |

Has the question about LPF for LFE been answered?
Rule of thumb in audio home theatre calibration: 1. Set all speakers to small 2. Set speakers crossover at the lowest level your speakers can go down to. 80 Hz is recommended for worse case scenario. If your speakers can’t go flat down to 80 Hz, buy a different set of speakers 3. The more all of the speakers being identical, the better the sound envelopment will be 4. Set LPF for LFE at 120 Hz. Make sure you are NOT using the crossover of your sub. |

I bet it would be difficult to find a theater with film now. I'm not actually against digital media specifically but I am for content that can be owned in the sense in which I am used to. For digital content that would be things I can own without crippling DRM. |

As to point 1, why set ALL speakers to small? As to point 4, where do you set the subwoofer's crossover control when you are not using it? I have to turn the knob to somewhere. By setting the speakers crossover in the AVR does that override what the subwoofer crossover is set at? Should they be set the same? |

I’ll still be in and out of hospital twice a month. Finally they concluded that I have sickle cell anemia. Oh well
As for speakers being small: unless your speakers can actually do a 20 Hz-20kHz +/- 3dB, bass management is needed. Some speakers manufacturers actually recommend you to set the speakers as large, then follow that. As where to set the sub xover, set it to the max as the LFE filtering is already done by the receiver/processor anyway. |

He knows but ... yes.
You bypass the crossover by setting the filter to max so there is no crossover. The sub output already has some bass management. If you did the other thing REL was talking about then you would tune the crossover because your sub would be getting full range signal. There's really only 2 controls and placement to wrestle with and now that you have experienced the Sub you know it's worth at least some trouble. My speakers are all set to small but they are in fact small bookshelf speakers so that one is kind of a given. |

Still tired all the time messing up with my international work because the doctors told me not to go overseas just in case. And besides, I need transfusion and infusion once every 2 weeks making it impossible for me to do my international work which unfortunately 70-80% of my annual income.
