"Why Wonder Woman’s second-weekend sales are so extraordinary — and important."

Quote:
This weekend, Patty Jenkins’s new entry in Warner Bros.’ DC movie universe took in an estimated $57 million, according to Box Office Mojo — around a 45 percent drop from its opening weekend. And while drawing just over half the number of opening-weekend viewers may not sound impressive on the surface, that figure is actually really great news for Warner Bros. and the team that put the film together.
Quote:
When you add in foreign box office, Wonder Woman sits at around $435 million in its first two weekends — a figure that shatters the initial projections for the film, which was tracking for an estimated $65 million opening weekend domestically.

I saw in IMAX again yesterday. This is such a great movie. Honestly, the action scenes in this are insane.

One of my favorite scenes was when Wonder Woman sees
[Show spoiler]Steve's plane blow up and goes all "Amazon" on that group of soldiers in super speed. Oh man that was awesome. One of my favorite scenes in MoS was how Faora took out those soldiers in super speed. Honestly, if you can move that fast, why wouldn't you?

Also, mega chills during that machine gun scene.

I don't particularly like war films or anything set before present day. Also Superman is BY FAR my favorite superhero but I'm calling it: Wonder Woman is the best DCEU movie so far.

I finally got to see this, and I have to say I'm impressed. It met all of my expectations and I think this is the best DCEU movie and the best DC movie since TDK. No, I didn't forget about TDKR, which is just really bad. It's hard to put this above Batman V Superman, which was a great movie but Wonder Woman does top it. Gal Gadot fits the role perfectly, Chris Pine does a great job, the story is focused and exciting and the setting is fitting. My only complaint is that it was filmed on film. Now the film does give the old vibe to the WW1 setting but it is also too grainy and not crystal-clear, which I expect from modern blockbusters. So yeah, Wonder Woman is a great movie and is in my top five superhero movies of all time.

Wow, I hadn't realized it was shot on film. I just figured it was shot digitally like so much else these days.

I dug this. Presenting Diana as a straightforward SUPERHERO was really refreshing. The character craft in this is second to none in the genre. The narrative is perhaps a bit straight forward and predictable which might make it struggle a bit for me on future viewings (like a lot of Marvel's outings), but until then, I'm not bothered. Gal's fantastic. She can play the earnest hero perfectly, really hope that's the persona they keep exploring instead of... the knowing mysterious sexy chick that she was presented as in BvS. Based on the last couple shots of the movie, it seems that's where they're heading anyway.

But, I think the final set piece sucks. It doesn't make narrative sense and it's kinda all out CG loud noise nonsense that doesn't really fit with the movie before it. The way Diana and Steve's relationship is tied into it makes that way less of a problem than it could have been, though.

I'm happy to see a future for the DCEU. After SS I swore off the franchise, but this has me back in.

I had no idea it was shot on film, (how cool) But I also never observed the grain to be an issue, which is not to counter your opinion, on the contrary I am now interested in looking for it haha.

It looked good for most of the film, but the most noticeable aspect was on the island of Themiscyra, which was probably because it was bright during that portion of the film. I know I'm just nit-picking, because while using film did suit this movie it wasn't as clear as I had hoped.

Finally saw it. Liked it just fine, didn't love it and it is somewhat overhyped, but it's entertaining enough and it's nice to see the DCEU score a W with most people for once. Main issues were with the length of the movie, the unnecessary framing device, and some really rough CG (sadly evident almost anytime Wonder Woman does something Wonderful). I get the Cap 1 comparisons but this honestly felt more like Thor, insofar as it's about a prince(ss) from a magical fantasy land who comes to Earth and is a fish out of water helping their new human love solve a big, big problem. Gadot is great, Pine even better, nicely cast and solidly directed. Just didn't do anything OMG for me but I liked it. 3 out of 4.

As far as ranking the DCEU so far: MoS > BvS > WW > ... > SS

If the film were a standalone film, I might agree about the framing device. But I think that as it is part of an extended universe with lots of moving parts, its importance will become clear as more films are released.

"I’ve come up on shooting film and working on film for a long time. Digital has come a long way. Digital does a lot of great things. There are things I really like about digital, but they are not the same and there is some sort of strange myth that “Oh, you can do everything now on digital.” Well if that was true, why do all the great, great, great filmmakers still shoot on film?” Is it because they know less? Is it because they’re more haphazard? Is it because they can’t move on to new information? No. It’s because there’s a certain type of epic grander escapism that film gives you that you cannot — you will struggle very hard — to get that on video."

Batman v Superman, Man of Steel and Suicide Squad were also shot on film. I will be very happy if DC continue doing so as it helps give their movies a certain something that really appeals to me.
