My Panasonic 3DTV can take any 3D image and convert it to 2D. I thought all 3DTVs did this.

Yes but without a 3DTV you're SOL even if you want to just play them as 2D

Yeah I wish they still made them. I'd buy one in a heartbeat just to watch my old 3D discs again

My C6 OLED is still working well but I had to abandon it at home, so when I visit I sometimes bring a few 3D discs for me and my brother to watch.

I’m not big into the format, but there’s a few I’m sad I can’t just revisit in 3D whenever I want. One thing that would sell me faster on PS VR2 is if they updated the system to read 3D Blu-ray Discs that you could watch on the headset. First thing I’d do is rewatch Gravity on it.

I recall someone on here mentioning an HDMI device you can put between your player and TV that essentially fools the player into thinking it's connected to a 3D TV but it'll just send the left-eye 2D image to the TV.
But it's easier and probably more worth your time to just rip it to an mkv that can played on any TV.

Hmm that is weird. Anyway I don't have an external player and use PC for all disc playback and it is never an issue using a PC for playback. Weird that many standalones will refuse to do it!

It’s not weird, it’s how several 3D discs have been authored, they literally block the 2D output. It’s there on the disc because that’s how MVC 3D encoding works, yes, but it’s not user selectable on a 2D system. If you try to play such a disc on a 2D only setup you get a message like this (though each studio has a different one):

Yes I know you play it all back thru a computah and that’s fine, but remember that everything you can do to bypass these user-operation restrictions doesn’t apply to standalones.

Wanna bet? I could use a little guaranteed cash.

Seriously, though, Uni didn’t even remaster the first Bourne, which is an objectively bad transfer. I don’t think JP’s decent but imperfect transfer has a snowball’s chance in Hell. But I’d love to be wrong.

It's most likely the same ol' disc. Tbh I hope so because I've not long received the 6-film collection as a birthday prezzie!

If we don't get a remaster for the 30th Anniversary, then we will have to wait another 10 years...

Please Uni make it happen

Pretty much going to be the same 4k disc. How does this movie have such a meh 4k scan(s) and The Lost World looks so dang good?

It might be an aesthetic thing, that the filmmakers don’t want people watching in 2D replete with conversion artefacts, floating windows, stuff like that. It’s also graded for 3D viewing to counteract the loss of light inherent to wearing sunglasses indoors so that might be another factor. Though the latter doesn’t stop most ‘native’ 3D discs from being presented with both 2D and 3D options, so I’m leaning more on the conversion artefact side of things.

Because the Jurassic Park original camera negatives haven't been scanned since the film was made. This is one film that deserves a full restoration like they did with star wars but do they still have all the original elements?

Comparing over at caps-aholic, it seems that none of the home releases quite have the 35mm colors, although maybe the old VC1 blu-ray has the closest colors? and the 3D the least close? then again the UHD seems to get the colors on the cars closer than the old VC1 blu-ray does but not bunches of other stuff. (although I'm not sure the 35mm is quite fully calibrated yet, but close at least, but probably not quite a true reference yet)
