Rebecca Buller's character is listed as Jenny Olsen in the Man of Steel media-guide (and tie-in book) but her name evolved into Jenny Jurwich in during production.

That's still not Jimmy Olsen. JO is one of the main Superman characters.

Stop moaning about Jimmy Olsen not being in the film (Jenny is not a replacement for Jimmy Olsen).
Jimmy Olsen has always sucked anyway! Get over it already!

And so what if it doesn't have much humor in it! You want to laugh at something, then go and watch Comedy Central!
I am sorry I had a mini-rant there, but I'm so sick of people saying that the film sucked because of those 2 minor things. It's pointless to keep going on about it.

If Zack Snyder wanted them in the film, then he would've put them in the film.
There. I've said my bit. I'm done here.

Please don't let this spiral into the pettiness in the Movies section.

There's a whole thread there for the moaners about the film.

Walked out on this last night. Nothing to do with the film, it looked very good from what I saw and managed to hear. There was a couple 4 seats from me and the woman just would NOT shut up. Yap yap yap from the moment she sat down til the moment I walked out.
I complained to the manager and managed to get complimentary tickets, so will go see it again.

Jimmy Olsen should have been in it too as a young intern. He would have added a bit of humour in there.

There is a reason its getting pretty poor reviews. Some people love it and think it did everything perfect. Some people think it was good but would have been so easy to make better and others hated it.
you mean the reason its getting mixed reviews!!

I think some people forget this is based on a COMIC book character and that the character has a fanbase from a history of many decades. People like Superman comics because of what they are. So in that respect it is perfectly understandable why people like myself have taken issue with Man of Steel for leaving out lots of things we like about the Superman and its characters.

I've seen far too often people blowing things out of proportion. Wanting a little humour in Man of Steel doesnt turn it into a comedy. Most of the most liked blockbusters in history have moments of humour in the films even the serious ones. Humour is a common psychological way of bonding with a character or film as it makes it seem more open rather than closed and emotionless.

My last point to all those saying bad things about people that thought the film could be better is this. If the film was so great and flawless like some of you think it is, why does it have such a mediocre review score? An average score of 55% is not a flawless film.

I personally would love to see this. I doubt it will be as good as the original and directors cut of the second though. We shall see.

That's critics who often seem way out of touch from the public who actually pay to see movies. The public's rating are all above 80% on imdb, rotten tomatoes etc

Personally I thought the film was rather spoilt by an overly-bombastic final third that was way too repetitive and went on too long. But it's a movie I'm very glad I went to see at the IMAX - a real experience. As for the "humour" thing if that means more lines along the lines of that police woman saying "He's hot" to her boss, then I can very happily do without it.

I wish that the theatrical version of S2 was available as standalone.

That's insulting to "the ladies". One could argue "for the ladies and gay men" and since I fall into the latter category I feel quite happy saying "Just not funny. Lame, yes. Funny? No"

I'd forgotten the truck scene which did make me smile.

Ah c'mon! Not always - I loved those Jack Kirby "Fourth World" issues back in the 70s, they were great! Er, maybe before and after not quite so great though!

It seems there is a big split between which version people prefer. I find the theatrical to be too toungue in cheek but still a decent film.

Donner cut has always felt too unfinished for me (and to be fair, it was). Want separate release.

The Donner Cut for me was a missed opportunity. It could have been so much more. The botched music cues, the ropey (out of place) special effects, the removal of as much Lester footage as possible regardless if it was a detriment to the overall film. However the Brando footage is worth its weight in gold, and with a bit more tinkering, I think it could have been seamless, instead of what looked like a very rushed job. In fact, that pretty much sums up The Donner Cut. Rushed.
