[Show spoiler] the notion of using Jill as the next Sidney in the franchise only to turn her into the killer who wants to be "the new generation Sidney", as a commentary on the remake era as a whole

was pretty smart and the one aspect that saves the film and makes it slightly better than part 3.

...but unlike with Scream 3, the comedy worked and it didn't play down the violence or horror elements. So it isn't the same thing.

If we get a Scream 5 as mediocre as Halloween 2018 then I'd rather they not bother.

Yep, its my favorite too as it just gets going with everyone on guard, unlike 3 where Sid is alone for the 1st 45 minutes due to Neve's party of five schedule so dewey and gale have to play off sub par characters, parker posey, lance henriksen, and carrie fisher are the exceptions, til then.

...I don't think it really worked. The few examples I named in the previous post were pretty much in the same level of Scream 3's attempts of humor. In the opening sequence of 4 when

I still remember how disturbed people were in the opening scene of the first film, all the gasps and the couple that walked out after seeing Casey's body displayed in front of the house.

Love the entire series and welcome a 5th! 3 is the weakest but I still enjoy it. Great series and great casting all throughout.

So that was the reason? I always thought Neve asked for her role to be diminished as she was fed up with Scream at the time. I remember it took a lot of $$$ to convince her to come back.

There's no hyperbole. 3 is complete crap and big letdown after the first two. 4 was a nice return but did show the audience had moved on.

Not sure if another without Craven or Williamson is really smart.

How DARE you! Parker is the best part of Scream 3.

And I like Scream 3! Yes, the 4th in my rankings....but it's not Halloween 5/6/8 or F13th 8/9/10 bad. Not even close.

The main problem with Scream 3 is that it plays down the horror and tension in favour of comedy, which unfortunately isn't that funny. That was because Columbine had happened not long before and the studio demanded for the violence and horror elements to be reduced. It's also noticeable that this is the only one of the four films not written by Kevin Williamson, the tone isn't right and it lacks the wit and invention of the other films. Parker Posey is fun and I like the central premise of having it take place during the shoot of a Stab sequel, it's just not executed that well.

Just to clarify, are you saying I made up that reasoning just so I could state that I still like the film? I only recently learned that was an issue people had with it so it was fresh to my memory.

While I like all 3, Zendaya was awesome in Euphoria. I'd be down for her to join the cast.

With how popular Zendaya is, I'll say Gomez gets wacked off at the beginning.
