No the final version was not a dream. I watched it for many a year.

Not only did I enjoy the 2009 remake but it was one of my favourite entries in the Friday series, too. I liked the Nightmare remake as well, although not nearly as much. There's way too much stubborn, belligerent nostalgia on the internet for peoples own good.

Ethel and Junior are annoying. They needed to a least tone down their charaters some. Not less screen time but less goofness.

Um, yes the final version that made the cut, it IS a dream.

Tommy was not a serial killer, but his old self in Jason Lives.

Paramount decided to bring Jason back, so logically the end was a dream.

The Nightmare remake hating has nothing to do with nostalgia, that movie was pure ass. It made Freddys Dead look like a masterpiece. There's a reason that remake killed the entire.franchise.

The movie wasn't particularly great, I'll give you that, but they did some good things too IMO. Made Freddy a real creep, something the sequels of the original franchise lost, so they get marks for that. In addition, the transitions to the dream sequences were fantastic, and really well shot. I'm also one of the few that really liked Jackie Earl Haley as Freddy, though they ****ed him over with the awful burn make-up.

The script let the movie down so much. Plus, and this may be an unpopular opinion, but Rooney Mara was one of the worst casting choices I've seen in a long time. I wanted Freddy to mutilate her beyond recognition, I really did. Despite that though I kinda enjoy it for what it is, particularly the dream sequences and Haley as Freddy.

It’s Friday so why not end the week with some major Friday the 13th news?

“Hannibal” screenwriter Nick Antosca has been working on the script for the next installment of the Friday the 13th franchise. Today, he responded to a fan on Twitter revealing that he’s “turned in a draft a few weeks ago,” further adding that “@bruckmachina & #PlatinumDunes & I all excited to make a great F13 movie. Don’t know schedule.”

David Bruckner (V/H/S, The Signal) is set to direct the latest incarnation of Jason Voorhees, and would have to approve the script, along with the producers at Platinum Dunes. There could (and probably will) be revisions, but it’s exciting to know that progress has ben made, and that things continue to move forward.

This is to be the 13th Friday the 13th, so I expect Bruckner and company to knock this shit out of the park.

We’ve previously reported multiple times that the new Friday the 13th will not be found-footage, and could take place in the 1980’s. In a more recent article, Brad Fuller of Platinum Dunes talked about his hopes for expanding Jason’s mythos and also taking the franchise back to summer camp.

Antosca previously posted an image displaying a series of machetes (implying there’s possibly a new style of machete in the works). He also clarified that the forthcoming Friday the 13th will not be a sequel to the 2009 remake helmed by Marcus Nispel.

Friday the 13th could slash into theaters on May 13, 2016.

I actually really enjoyed the 2009 remake as well. It payed respects to the classic quadrilogy while also treading it's own path.

I think there's a tasteful way to do the "found footage" concept as well if it's not overdone. One idea a friend and I discussed was if it's gonna be set in Camp Crystal Lake, they could splice away for about 3 seconds to silent security camera footage to either hide the gore, taking the classic Halloween approach, or to really put over how secluded some of the areas really are. Do it tastefully, and it could be effective. None of that Chronicles or Halloween Resurrection nonsense.

Take this image for example:
[Show spoiler]

Show a girl crawling towards one of the vehicals to get away from Jason, and you can see Jason walk into frame, stand there and watch her for a second, then as he walks towards, cut back to the film and do his thing. It helps sell the illusion of Crystal Lake being a real place in the viewers minds, further investing them in the chaos.

Or, alternatively, you could show that security camera angle during the kill to obscure the violence, and maybe only show things like blood splatter up on the windshield or something like that.

It's what you don't show that makes the viewer piece it together in their minds, and it's usually much more horrifying than you can show on film.

I thought Brad Fuller said they weren't doing the found footage thing anymore.

I do like the remake its not as good of course as the original series, but its not all bad either. So glad their setting this one back at camp and like the idea of it being in the 80's.

I liked the remake as well, loved how brutal Jason was!

I hope they go back to that idea of Jason killing people off in the snow.

I also really enjoy the remake, though it is a tad too long. The movie wasn't a financial flop if I remember correctly? They should have just went full steam ahead with that snow idea for the sequel, it would have been great to see.

I'm really happy they aren't going the found footage route because no matter what the film, found footage is almost always contrived, even when it is done well. It's unnecessary, and virtually every single time there is a dumb reason for it, especially in Horror. If Jason's is chasing you, YOU DROP THE ****ING CAMERA AND RUN! I can't think of any decent movies that used found footage that would be worse off without it.

Problem with this one is, they've said they're considering having it set in the 80's. Now they've said that I can't shake it. I have glorious images of Jason hacking some bare chested blonde while a classic 80's tune plays. I love that someone won't lose signal on their cell at the worst possible time etc. Not to mention, that's the era Friday the 13th belongs IMO. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE set it in the 80's.

I liked the 2009 one also! Being a Supernatural fan made it a bit odd though because I kept expecting Sam Winchester to exorcise/kill Jason

Big Supernatural fan here as well. Oddly enough, Jensen/Dean appeared in another 80's horror remake in 2009. I like to think Sam and Dean went undercover for these two movies haha.

As much as I love the '80s F13 movies, I'd rather they didn't set the new one in that decade. I mean, if they stuff it with a bunch of random '80s references, songs, fashions, etc--they might as well do the obvious and make it a comedy.

I'd be okay with the '80s setting if they were subtle about it, but you just know those clowns at Platinum Dunes can't do subtlety.
