Rosemary Baby's spine number has changed to #630 so Trilogy of Life has obviously been delayed quite a bit

Thumbs up

well last month I was hoping for the Blob and Foreign Correspondent, and in 12 days I will hope for the same, as well as In A Lonely Place
I wish they would release the original The Man Who Knew Too Much with Peter Lorre. There are too many public domain releases of that film and would like to see something more definitive

Criterion upgrades are difficult to predict. I never saw In The Mood for Love coming. I'm thinking we are overdue for Kurosawa and will get Ikiru or Rashomon soon. The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp also seems likely for either Nov or Dec. IMO they are way overdue for Truffaut; hopefully Jules & Jim or Shoot the Piano Player will be paired up with The Soft Skin in the near future.

I don't know if they would actually release Mr. Smith Goes To Washington, I just see this more being done by Sony

You have certain actors and directors that when someone ask you "what is their best movie?" you are left with no answer because everything they ever did was masterful. One such film maker in my opnion in Charlie Chaplin.

The Great Dictator (1925)

Chaplin and his little Tramp character has been making the entire planet laugh and cry for almost a century now. When someone ask me the question above concerning Chaplin my answer is usually to go with my favorite City Lights. It's almost impossible to come up with a best for him, they all seem "the best" somehow. To this day people are left amaze at some of the tricks employed to achieve the shots seen in this movie. Without the aid of computers, Chaplin and the techs did it the old fashion way and even now after 87 years you just can't imagine anyone doing it better today with all of their computers, color and 3D. At the heart of it all was the story, the rest was just tools to bring the story to life while today the tools are the story and there is no life. Wonderful release by Criterion.

I watched Wings Of Desire for the first time about a week ago. I watched it again today, but this time while listening to the audio-commentary. Then I tried to watch all of the other special features, but it got to the point where I was becoming very overwhelmed by so much information that I couldn't absorb any more and started falling asleep in my chair. I still have an hours worth of special features to go through, which will have to wait for another day. That's my problem with watching films on bluray (or DVD) ... it becomes very time consuming for me because I can only take in so much at a time. Just finding a large enough chunk of (uninterrupted) time to devote to movie watching is often a rare thing.

But anyway, back to the movie. Interesting to say the least. Beautiful to look at and hear. I'm sure I will be visiting it again, although when exactly, who knows. I really enjoyed listening to the audio-commentary too ... love hearing how/why a movie I like is made.

Spoilers for those who have seen the movie or the special features:

[Show spoiler]It's likely that I'll think of Peter Falk the next time I buy a hat.

I think I'm glad that the "almost homage to the Three Stooges" never made it to the final film ... although I was under the impression that it was never intended to be in the movie anyway.

I was thinking of getting it as well during the last sale but in the end I did not. I figured I just would not be watching often enough to make it worth while, even with a sale. Good movie however. I need to re-start spending more time listening to the commentaries, lot's of good info on the movies on them

Yeah, the audio-commentaries can be fun, but I know they aren't for everybody. It's often hard enough to find the time for the movie, let alone a repeat showing with commentary. (Reminds me of when I listened to all 4 commentaries [times 3 = 12 commentaries total] for The Lord Of The Rings films. Woofda! )

ah good times, I did the same as well only that one time back in 2004 after I had all three movies on DVD. I haven't got the courage to try again since for those

I need to get back on commentaries for Criterion I can't recall which movie was the last I bother listening to the commentaries, been such a while.

Won't be tonight cause I receive my rental disc for The Message and will be watching this tonight. Been wanting to watch this for a long time now (by the way I am talking about 1977 movie by Moustapha Akkad )

I don't what kind of weird block I have with this but I've owned it for over a year and have started it several times but I've never gotten more than fifteen or so in before thinking 'ehhhhh, another time maybe'.

And it's not that I disliked anything...it just never quite fit my mood.

Borrowed Carlos from a friend last week and was fully engrossed for the 5 plus hours. Great film / miniseries. Loved the soundtrack - wish someone sold that as well.

It flies, doesn't it? Back when I still had NF streaming I watched the first part just to see if I wanted to buy it or not and had to watch the whole thing.

I'm sorry if this question has already been addressed, but I haven't been following this thread.

Does anyone have a complete list of Criterion Collection films that take place in the U.S. or star U.S. actors?

Any help is appreciated

Sony remains extremely slow about releasing Columbia's catalog on blu. I wouldn't be surprised if Mr. Smith Goes To Washington is one of the films Sony licenses to a different distributor like Criterion or even Twilight Time (though I'd prefer a Criterion release over one from Twilight Time).
