Cloverfield(Blu-ray)

Director: Matt Reeves
Producer: J.J. Abrahms

Cast: Michael Stahl-David, T.J. Miller, Odette Yustman, Jessica Lucas and Lizzy Caplan

Film:4.5/5
I've seen this film about 10 times and every time I watch it I just get so pulled in. I think Matt Reeves did a brilliant job on directing. I know a lot of people don't like the "shaky cam" style but I think it was done really well. The only complaint I have with the film(and the reason it's not a 5/5) is because Hud(T.J.Miller) says too many things that are funny while they are running around the city. Imo if someone were in the situation as these people were, I don't think people would be joking around. That said I still think everything he said was funny and I laugh when he says them.

I love films like this to when the government seems "involved" with the whole
[Show spoiler]Monster
issue.
PQ:4.5/5
Cloverfield looks really good on blu. For the most part it is an outside underground film and it really looks like you are there with them.
AQ:5/5
Perfect. Period. Def a noisy film. Back speakers were used perfectly. No complaints to me.

Have you ever checked out the television show Torchwood on the BBC? You may enjoy it, particularly season 3(Children of Earth mini-series).

Torchwood is excellent! Children of Earth is one of the best mini-series of the past few years. It's definitely recommended

How did you like it compared to the previous two installments? And, did you think it was the most "tearjerking" of the Pixar films, as many seem to?

So while I understand the importance to the story I still will never be comfortable watching them.

I also didn't know that all three films have already been released overseas. I just checked our local art house theater and found The Girl Who Played With Fire is being released here in early August along with Winter's Bone. It's going to be a good week.
Yeah, there would be know way you'd know how important those scenes are--I'm not overstating their importance at all, though. And I agree, just because they're important doesn't mean they're easy to watch. My blu of the film arrived yesterday.

The Girl Who Played With Fire was released in limited, this past Friday. I went to see it and wrote a review of it on here if you want to read it (just search for it).

Was actually reading up on Danny Boyle's upcoming film '127 Hours' and was redirected to this fantastic documentary. It tells the story of two friends who travel to Peru and climb Siula Grande, a 20,814 ft mountain that no one had ever summited before. I thought it would be about the impossible journey to the summit but found out it was the harrowing sequence of events on the way back down. In the mountaineering community this is a legendary story or survival. If you have any interest of the outdoors or just a good documentary in general I highly recommend checking this out.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo - 8/10

Was pretty displeased that I missed this at the local art theater two weeks ago. I thought I would have to wait forever to see this but to my surprise I found it on Netflix Instant! Aside from the

3 rape scenes

I enjoyed tremendously. I wouldn't call the story original or unique by any means but the execution is brilliant. It reminded me of Tell No One, which I would still say is a better film, but don't miss out on this. Just make sure you aren't with the girlfriend/wife/kids when you watch this.
If you like Touching the Void you'll probably like (wasn't there a thread about this ) the foreign film "North Face."

I thought Monster's Inc. was more emotional at the end..... obviously the end of Monster's Inc. was more about
[Show spoiler] coming back together
while the end of Toy Story 3 was about
[Show spoiler] saying goodbye
I think "UP" had a more of a sustained emotional vibe to it.... I don't know that I would call Toy Story 3 a huge tear-jerker.... and I like to look at it on a whole, and not base the emotional factor on the very last scene of a movie......

I saw Toy Story 1 for the first time when it was released on Blu-ray..... same with Toy Story 2..... so with that in mind, I still think Toy Story 1 was the best.... and I would say 2 is still better than 3, but they are both very close for me..... I might have to watch Toy Story 3 a few more times before I can safely say that though..... but that's how it stands right now.

Also, 2 and 3 are certainly not far off from 1..... I think all three stand up very well on their own.

Also... call me crazy, but parts of "Cars" were extremely emotional......

[Show spoiler]Well, if you consider the literal loss of ones mind a "cure" to one's psychosis, then yes...but I think not IMO

Gotcha. You're not crazy--I watched and reviewed Cars this past weekend and had it tied for third with Monster's Inc, among the Pixar films. I thought it was very good and had some good themes, if a bit cliche.

For me, All Pixar movies are great and also emotonal, except the Incredibes.
The incredibles was just a very good Dreamworks movie.

Well you seem to have a very different interpretation of the film than me. I didn't see him
[Show spoiler]pretending to be insane. I didn't see anything that would suggest that he wasn't insane. But perhaps I need to watch it again...peace.

Oh, come on.
[Show spoiler]It was so obvious Leo was sane at the end of Shutter Island, IMO. The dialogue--"You know, this place makes me wonder. Which would be worse, to live as a monster or to die as a good man?"--seems so clear to me. He can't live with the past, so he would rather be lobotomized and pretending to "relapse" into insanity is his ticket. The ending is nowhere near as poignant if he's still nuts. The drama arises from the fact this good, solid man is involved in such a tragic situation. A situation he can't cope with, so he would rather end his life.

Well it seems there is a lot of difference of opinion on the interpretation of the end (check out: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1130884/...nest/165214164).
[Show spoiler]How is it that he would be ending his life by getting the lobotomy?

[Show spoiler]Because he'll be brain dead, won't think about anything, won't remember anything, plus if Brain Surgery goes wrong he might die, and he'd rather die than remember what he has done!

Arrow "Vantage Point" ...On Blu-ray.

Film: 3/5
Picture: 3.75/5
Sound: 4/5
Extras: 1/5
Overall: 3/5

* Last comment: Different, but entertaining nonetheless. ...And really unlikely.
But that's what movies are all about right. ...A twist of fiction with unreality!

Just watched Hot Tub Time Machine. First time I'd seen it. And I enjoyed it quite a bit. It was really funny, and a great send up to the 80's. The cast was great, lots of great lines, and of course Chevy Chase as the mysterious Hot Tub repair man was hilarious. I just really enjoyed this movie and I'd recommendy it

8/10

[Show spoiler]Having a frontal lobotomy did not usually result in incapacitance for life, even though the risk was certainly there, otherwise why would they even bother with the procedure?
