I can understand thinking Wonder Woman was just ok but to have an extremely negative review makes me wonder if there's some type of agenda at work.

Or people have different tastes. No film is beloved by everyone. There are people who dislike The Godfather and Star Wars, two of the most popular and highly praised films of all time.

There are people who dislike every single almost universally praised film of all-time. There are people who love films that are absolute stains on the art of film-making. It's why we get such a broad spectrum of films. If everyone enjoyed the same thing, all movies would be exactly the same and I don't think anyone wants that.

Box Office: 'Wonder Woman' Tops $570M Worldwide!!

Quote:
Wonder Woman is doing about as well overseas as it is in North America, which is impressive in-and-of-itself. The DC Films superhero adventure earned another $39.5 million (-34% from last weekend) to bring its overseas cume to $297.2m. That means the Gal Gadot-starring/Patty Jenkins-directed action spectacular has now earned $571.8m worldwide. It'll pass Logan ($615m) soon enough to become the fifth-biggest global grosser of the year, behind Pirates 5 ($650m), Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 ($844.4m), Fate of the Furious ($1.238b) and Beauty and the Beast ($1.252b). Sure, that ranking may get knocked down a peg once Despicable Me 3 and Transformers: The Last Knight take their shot, but it's still already past the $566.2m worldwide cume of Kong: Skull Island to be Warner Bros.' biggest grosser of the year.

That's quite a skin on the wall for Geoff Johns and hopefully will give a huge boost to Justice League in 5 months.

Just got back, I thought it was terrific. After all the fears about Gadot's wooden acting she proved to be a genuinely adept performer, the story is well-trodden material (people weren't kidding when they said it was a cross of Thor and Captain America) but when it's executed as thrillingly as this it's churlish to complain, and the music was aces. Again, people feared that Zimmer's WW theme would be like a fish out of water but the way it was teased throughout the film and woven into the score was superb.

I said when the reviews started coming out that they referred to the film as having a proper beginning, middle and end which pleased me, and the movie was immensely satisfying as a result. The framing device is a little awkward as you then get a flashback within a flashback inside the next 10-15 minutes but those yards have to be covered somehow.

Oh yeah: do I get extra brownie points for correctly guessing early on that
[Show spoiler]David Thewlis was Ares? It just seemed so obvious, him hiding in the form of this Chamberlain-esque (yes, I know that was WWII, but still) appeaser.

I knew he was Ares, but because I heard it months ago.

Haha, the quality of the film made it feel like one though. JL has a very tall task ahead of it now.

Say what you will about Gadot, but she lit up and commanded the screen. It was like she glowed. Very good presence on screen. It seems like she was born for the role, and she did not disappoint.

I loved Diana's naivety and innocence about the world. It was so genuine and so adorable, it might have been my favorite part about Gal's performance.

I'm envious of her husband. Like your friends could sleep with all the women in the world, but bruh, your wife is Wonder Woman. I'd feel like a million bucks.

Exactly what I meant with my comments about her performance above, the ways that she tears into those guys at the "council" meeting felt like it truly had a purity of emotion behind it, nor was it overplayed with histrionics. It's amazing how this Gal (see what I did there) has come from virtually nowhere to deliver one of the most commanding leading performances in a comic book flick since Ledger in Dark Knight, I think she's that good.

Very well stated. I didn't see it until today but my heads still buzzing about her performance. I'm afraid when JL hits that I'm going to be impatient waiting for her next scene. She's that good in the role, it's hers and she owns it. She is Wonder Woman.

To me this still felt very much like a DC film, just a bit lighter. I do see some similarities to certain Marvel films, but for me nothing that made it feel 100% like a Marvel film. Still enjoyed it a hell of a lot more than a lot of what Marvel has put out for the MCU. I know I love a film when I want to see it multiple times and so far the only Marvel films that gave me that feeling after the first viewing were the first Iron Man, CA: Winter Soldier & Guardians of the Galaxy 1 & 2.
