I don't mind some of the older DVDs and their bad quality.. especially for the classic stuff as it takes me back to watching them on VHS lol.

How about the Japanese feature film DVD? I think it was the same master as the LaserDisc but it was apparently much better, (such as being in progressive scan) even if it was still in non-anamorphic.

15 Units Left of the Anime LTD/UK version of Neon Genesis Evangelion Ultimate Edition.

Anyone that's still on the fence about this edition, now would be the time to decide if you want it or not.

As a last minute reminder; U.S. buyers don't pay VAT - which brings the price down to 166GBP at checkout, and with International Shipping (FedEx) - brings the price to $274 (U.S. Dollar)

As of this writing - no GKids Ultimate Edition stock has replenished from potential returns. Still sold out.

Agreed. I did a side-by-side between the Japanese "Theatrical Edition" DVDs from 1999 that used the same master (KIBA-105) and you can definitely tell the difference between it and the inferior Manga Entertainment encode.

I wish the collector's edition was available but oh well, caved in for the ultimate. Will have to pay tax and probably customs duties when it gets here.

I'm not sure where you're looking, but as for as U.S. and U.K. Collectors Editions - both are still available for purchase.

I've already submitted an entry for the DTS Collector's Edition of the movies (KIBA-1209) which is pending, but not one for the "Remix" DVD (KIBA-1300). I also successfully got "Revival of Evangelion" to be added to the movies database as well, which will make things much easier in terms of getting the proper film attribution for the various post-2003 DVD/BD releases. No more having to choose the inaccurate combo of D&R and EoE when dealing with Revival-based releases!

I think the real trick will be getting the GKIDS release listings in the database to use "Revival of Evangelion" as well, though. Of course it's one thing to get the relatively obscure (by general population standards) Japanese releases' listings to reflect the proper content, but I'm assuming it'll be much harder to for the US releases due to 20 years' worth of inertia.

Of course for the UE and CE both Revival and EoE would have to be listed as they're presented separately on different discs, even if the latter is based off of the slightly modified "Video Format" edition from 1998 instead of the 1997 theatrical cut.

I just realized Collector's is a Zavvi exclusive. As much as I love the artwork, not knowing how good the discs will be and the missing ED, I might just downgrade.

So I caved and bought the Archives Red DVD Box and the 2019 Blu-ray Set, I got some assistance earlier from a very helpful member about ripping the disc content to make MKV files and add subs.

Is it possible to Rip the content for both sets as ISO's and add subtitles and mount them w/subs back to disc?

If so can someone point me in the right direction on where to look?

Would it be a similar process for the DVDs and Blu-rays or is it a different process for both?

I also see you submitted the "remastered" version of Volume 1, which I added the cover art from your site. If you've got higher-resolutions of it, feel free to upload them. Click on "Upload covers", and that's how you add things, make sure to uncheck "Keep X image", also the "crop" box should be checked only when you need whitespace to be removed.
https://www.blu-ray.com/dvd/Neon-Gen...:1-DVD/241829/

You'll probably also want to retitle this too.
https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Neon-...lu-ray/282440/

I also went through the trouble to help fix a gigantic mess that was made because the placeholder TV entry was turned into the standard edition and then it was being used in Bundle IDs for no reason. The standard edition includes the TV series AND movies, nothing is being released individually. Bundles within bundles results in stuff not showing up in your Complete Collection view.
https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...8#post19293258

I've also got the UK standard edition pending (I looked, it surprisingly is still missing), after that's added, maybe the HMV exclusive could warrant its own entry. All one would have to do is click on "Add new country/edition" as that clones a release and you just have to tweak very few things, saves quite a bit of time.

Damn this looks cool... if only there'd been a standard release with this slipcover and the classic dub, it'd have been perfect (for me). As is, I went with the CE.

Decided to downgrade to the collector's edition, as much as I like the ultimate packaging, the price difference is not worth it, I'd rather put that towards importing the JP set with the proper ED as well. Also who knows how good or bad the authoring will be (sorry if I missed this info).

As much as I like the LD art, the renewal artwork would fit this release better. Doesn't seem like there's any shortage of buyer's though.

I order the C.E from Rightstuf since I had a gift card I haven't use yet. The only complaint I have is the covers of the C.E and standard covers should switch. The C.E. box should have better art on it.

I can think of two reasons:

1) The "Renewal" promo art by Yoshiyuki Sadomoto that's being used on the regular edition has already been used as the art for the primary rear "spine" of the box that came with Volume 1 of the Platinum DVD singles.

But much more importantly:

2) Only the regular edition is going to be sold in brick-and-mortar stores (as the UE is exclusive to GKIDS' shop while the CE is exclusive to the online shops of GKIDS, Shout Factory, and Right Stuf), and quite frankly the CE box's "EMERGENCY" hexagons don't have the right kind of visual appeal to draw curious consumers to grab it off of the shelf for inspection. If you can't entice a potential customer to even touch the case, they can't very well take it to the cash register.

So I'm trying to understand what is NOT included in the GKids UE CE, that is in the JP Blu-ray box?

From what I can tell anything related to FMTTM(Clean Ending, Full Size Ending), OA 21-24.

Is the "Music Video The Cruel Angel's Thesis" - Listed in the SF for GKids, supposed to be the Full Size Opening listed in the JP Blu-ray SF?

Is the Original Death and Rebirth included though, like it is in the JP Box Set? It says Classic Version EVANGELION DEATH (TRUE)2 listed for the GKids release, but I thought the original Manga release of Death and Rebirth was the original Death?

Also I was wondering if any fan subs translations exist for the Special Features in the Archive of Evangelion Red DVD box set.

Its a pipe dream at this point but would the book ever be published outside of UE?
I think did that with Star Wars and the Nightmare Before Christmas LD sets.

Had the faint hope that they'd put out a cheaper release without the tat that came with the ADV dub, but it seems it's in a similar spot to the old Seed dub being stuck in the more expensive collectors edition that comes with a bunch of stuff I have no interest in . Glad I bought the Holiday collection all those years ago when it was cheap on rightstuf even when I wasn't super big into the show. A case of peer pressure working out since I only got it after so many called it one of the best .

No ADV dub (and the new script) is the biggest turn off for me, no FMTM also sucks (was similarly bummed when learning the Quantum Leap DVDs I have cut a lot of the original music) though even had it been there without the ADV dub it would have been a no. I'm the kind of person that strongly attaches a characters voice to whoever I first hear, so most attempts at watching a series with a different voice gives that "something wrong" feeling that I can't get over. Same situation if I watch a dub/sub first and try watch the opposite after, very rare I can enjoy both. Quite a pain if I'm being honest.

Also I was wondering if any Subs exist for the Special Features in the Archive of Evangelion Red DVD box set.
As far as I'm aware the following pieces of actual content are missing from the US/UK/AU Ultimate Edition that the JP Blu-ray boxes have:

* Non-telop ED
* The 1997 theatrical cut of "Death and Rebirth"
* 22x audio tracks from the series in 5.1 audio (also seen in Vol. 8 of the JP "Renewal" DVDs).
* "AR Rush" / "Animatic" video for a portion of "Rebirth"
* Teaser trailer for Hideaki Anno's 1998 film "Love & Pop" (was at the end of the theatrical presentation of EoE on Disc #7)

Regarding the extras found on Disc #7 of the Archives DVD set, I don't believe that anyone has ever subbed those. Someone did adapt the subs from the US DVD containing Death[True]² to the "Death[True] and Rebirth" version of the film exclusive to that box set, though.

For those curious, the 22x audio tracks that the JP Blu-ray set contains are as follows (note: list "spoilered" to save space)...

[Show spoiler]1) NERV [A-3]

2) Borderline Case [A-4]

3) MOTHER IS THE FIRST OTHER [A-10]

4) SEPARATION ANXIETY [A-13]

5) She said, "Don't make others suffer for your personal hatred." [A-15]

6) Hedgehog's Dilemma [B-1]

7) DECISIVE BATTLE [E-1]

8) EVA-01 [E-3]

9) EVA-02 [E-4]

10) EVA-00 [E-5]

11) THE BEAST [E-5 Fast Tempo]

12) ANGEL ATTACK [E-6]

13) MARKING TIME, WAITING FOR DEATH [E-7]

14) A STEP FORWARD INTO TERROR [E-9]

15) THANATOS [E-13]

16) THE BEAST II [E-16]

17) Next Episode Preview [F-2]

18) Escape to the Beginning [M-4]

19) Midsummer's End [M-6 Fast Tempo - Modified]

20) From Falsehood, Rebirth [M-7B New Mix]

21) II Air [ORCHESTRAL SUITE NO.3 in D Major. BWV.1068]

22) Komm, süsser Tod [M-10 Director's Edit. Version]
